... you seem to dislike poppy, frost. Just sort of the vibe I'm getting.

It... okay. Was sort of a RPG-like thing. Every character is a tile -- y'know, sorta' like a scabble tile -- and your party (which can get quite sizable) constantly moves to the right. There's bosses, and I'm fairly sure you could purchase enemy tiles as you move along. There were mages (which, iirc, came in elemental flavors), archers, various melee critters, healers... pretty expansive cast of critters. Blazes if I can remember when it came out. Some point post-2000, but when, I have no clue.

E: Nevermind, google-fu dug it up. I was looking for Battle of Tiles.

Other Games / Re: Recommend (free?) tactical rpgs
« on: September 12, 2014, 03:22:20 pm »
... yeah, those are great, but tactical rpgs they aren't even remotely. Those are 4x strategy games to the core, and basically nothing like the requested stuff. Have no idea what you're talking about regarding MoM and hard troop limits, though. Can't recall anything like that. There's a military population limit thingy, iirc, but it's not terribly hard to increase, from what I can recall.

As for actual suggestions, if you want something very tiny and fairly simple, you might check out Dungeon Bash Tactics. Also free, if you count dealing with an ad-ridden angelfire webpage as being free :P

E: Though there's a couple alternate links further down the thread if y'want to just skip that bit.

That was beautiful.

Giving some of my poor, overworked starspawn a vacation.

E: Also, before I forget, I'm getting more teeth yanked out come monday morning. As before, I may be in a bit of a drug/pain/blood addled haze for a day or three afterwards, so keeping an eye on R'yleh's submissions and the deadline would be appreciated. Hopefully won't come to an extension, but when you're fairly copiously bleeding out the gum line some things become somewhat less of a priority.

E2: And a hearty salute to Pythium and company. Y'all held out quite long against pretty rough odds.

Well, they can't just not report it at all, as much as that would be ideal.
*scratches head* Why not? Plenty of major news media groups don't report on stuff considerably more important than relatively isolated executions (See: US news media and basically anything having to do with south america, most anything to do with white slavery/general flesh trade, etc., so forth, so on.).

Didn't hell terrain start showing up not too far into the industrial revolution? Know we've got places in china and elsewhere that are just kind of chemical death sumps or whatev'. Kind of place a devil looks at and just turns around with a hearty "Bugger that, back to Cocytus."

17378
... yeah, you could do with taking to tl;dr part out, because I honestly kinda' want to say horrible things to you, at this point.

I don't know about other people, but I'd generally say if you're still "bucking up and mourning" after over a fucking decade, it's not time to mourn, it's time to see a shrink. Shit is beyond unhealthy.

And while thousands is technically correct, it would be more accurate to note "tens of". Death toll in iraq alone is pegged at 150k on the low end, with projected ultimate cost in life on the high end of over half a fucking million. If anything "invalidates" 9/11, it's the fuckoff huge atrocity the US helped engender afterwards.* Some old fellow on a xenophobic high was just a rage point, just like anyone else claiming that the slaughter of thousands upon thousands of children and tens of thousands more other civilians was anything but an absolute atrocity would be.

But no, people definitely did "say a god damn thing" about not sending troops when the tragedy was still fresh. And the years after. This isn't "privilege to look back" this is "has been screaming this whole goddamn time it was a mistake." Not the least for me, anyway.

*Hint: It doesn't. Time invalidates 9/11, because it's long past the point of moving on.

17379
If the news is finally figuring that out, it's about bloody time. Several years late, but late is arguably better than never. I stopped remembering the day meant something without prompting within five or six years, iirc. And yeah, I lived through the attack, as well. Had family in NYC when it happened, actually living pretty close to the towers.

I keep deleting more words on the subject, but I don't really have anything to say on it but vitriol and disgust. Terrible as 9/11 was, the american response has ended up several magnitudes worse in consequence, and anything resembling a positive light on the colossal fuckup that's been hanging around our neck since that year just pisses me right the hell off. Don't like being reminded of it in general, honestly.

... better one person coding ostensibly poorly and getting something done than a dozen talking about improvement and getting nothing done >_>

Also called: Possibly one of the reasons the code hasn't been open sourced. I'd personally prefer any commentary on coding practices to be withheld unless specifically asked for by Duke. Even with the best of intentions behind it, getting harangued about your code without it being invited is something of a pain in the ass. Let us not annoy the person getting shit done, yeah?

Incidentally, since this is the first time I've posted since the dev showed up, cheers, dev. Looking forward to the UI update. Refraining from suggestions until that comes about, heh, but even with the UI being what it is I've definitely enjoyed what I've seen so far.

Can it not be both?

Alternately, dude was probably drunk out his mind. Or otherwise intoxicated. Remember what a symposium was back then. Buncha dudes getting together to get utterly blitzed and talk about things they won't remember the next day. Like a frat party, except instead of "chug" they actually take the question "what is love" seriously, instead of responding with a meme that wouldn't exist for many centuries. Except for the ones that were drunk enough to actually see the future.

So. Bit drunk, and then screwing with people while simultaneously making some sort of point.

And, of course, more importantly it wasn't aristophanes speaking, but plato speaking through aristophanes. Remember that lens, and don't try to figure out what aristophanes was intending to say -- try to figure out what plato was trying to say with what aristophanes was saying.

Generally I get along pretty well with m'step father. Bit of a conservative fellow, but generally has his heart in the right place, and has been damn good for my mother, over all.

When he calls at nine in the morning to remind me of the colossal inhuman fuckup that came after the event that happened too fucking long ago to care about -- that I wouldn't even have remembered, if the gods were merciful and that call hadn't happened -- and then go on some fucking xenophobic bullshit spiel about how 1/3rd of the human race is irredeemably evil and should be killed, is not one of those times.

It's very goddamn rare I'll actually hang up on a non-telemarketer. Someone trying to tell me the tens of thousands of civilian deaths that have resulted from american fuckups in the middle east was justified is one of those occasions. I did not want to be this pissed off this morning.

17383
Yeah, and the problem comes in when you can't tell the main characters from a random guy on the street.
But... it's basically impossible to tell main characters from random people on the street with live action. Because they are random people from the street. In fancy clothes, at the best, but take that away and you've just got a whoever. The old "when everything is unique, nothing is" thing.

At least with animated et al. stuff they occasionally have the decency to make unimportant people literally faceless or whatev'.

17384
Don't most cartoon/animation/every style have that problem to a fair degree? I hear the same complaints about western comics...

Cheers to tompliss, yeah. You were so prickly we ended up domkilling you instead of trying to dig you out.
