Probably because it's an adventure game >_>

... more seriously, lot of folks seem to stop playing part way through any particular game. The latest shiny shows up and they go play that, instead. Then the cycle repeats.

Also doesn't count if your character has half-decent melee attacks, because it looks funny to see somebody maul people with acid-coated maces while shooting fire out of their eyes and also be wearing a wizard hat.
If ToME4 has taught me anything, that is the best kind of looking funny. If you're going to be a little fat person devouring physical manifestations of the infinite void, whole, there is no more dapper means of doing so than while wearing a nicely enchanted wizard's hat.

Gwerble. Gemless games on larger maps... don't work so well. Once the AI gets going and you start getting fights that regularly include 30+ troll kings or whatev', turns... start taking a while. A fight with sixty or seventy casters in it, most of them probably spamming summoning spells... each battle turn has been taking upwards a full minute. And the fights happily go 60+ turns.

Part of me half wants to start an MP game of it, just so llamaserver can process the turns instead of me :P

Humans on all ends would just get ridiculous, though, at least if they're all intent on the obvious abuses. Especially once you start getting access to casters that can summon themselves, heh. Armies made up of literally hundreds of commanders, almost all of them casters, on each side, werble. Assuming it can get that high, anyway.

Still. Fun to watch an entire battlefield not-so-slowly filled up with insects. Or elementals. Or undead. Like. Not metaphorically, either. Bugs scragging everywhere. S'great. Just painfully slow.

Ehh, burning domain to get better scales isn't the worst of ideas if those scales are providing enough extra gold to allow you to build enough temples to artificially raise your domain. High starting dominion is, well, an early game issue, at least so far as I understand it. S'meant to keep you from getting domkilled before you can get temples out, or give you enough early sacred production you can expand. God awe if you're really pushing it, but that seems less prevalent.

Personally, I'd be recommending high (over 5-7) starting dominion if and only if you expect early game issues or a later inability to keep your temples intact. Otherwise, put those points into scales and build temples. Then you get better scales and high dom and delicious dominion push and more places to recruit priests or whatever. As opposed to just high dom and less delicious dominion push.

I think I'd love bicycles if this weren't florida and the nearest town of even most remote of notes wasn't a dozen miles away. Maybe when around the house in the larger town, but then you have to deal with people in cars ;_;

And the heat. Can't forget the heat.

Well. All that and if I hadn't forgotten how to ride a bike. People who say that's impossible are goddamn liars. All it really takes is some time and a notable shift in your balance, apparently.

... you've got my condolences, then. Well done tone shifts tend to be some of the more amazing things fanfics pull off. My life would be a darker one if I weren't able to enjoy those.

Also, FD, you've been following me around =_=

well

More likely just checking SB/SV also, but still. And yeah, several of those FD mentioned are on SV (notably cloudy path) as well if you don't want to bother with the multi-thread annoyance. Also an arguably better color scheme :P

E: To actually recommend something, I've just started reading this and it's fairly decent so far. Persona/DxD crossover. Should probably get around to recommending the other decent DxD Xovers I've ran into, if they haven't been suggested already. S'at least two Dresden ones that are quite solid.

And why exactly would a government-owned factory be more productive than a private one? If anything, evidence suggests the opposite.
Why would it need to be more productive than a private one? There's literal metric fucktons of waste in a lot of sectors as is, which suggests t'me that overproduction is already happening in a lot of areas and there's plenty of room for reduced production if it means better other things. Like price for the consumer, better accessibility to the general population, hopefully better treatment of employees, etc.

Regardless, the point being made above is that producers operating without or with reduced profit motive (and something of a subsidy, if they're offsetting costs with tax money) are very much likely to be able to undercut the prices of profit-minded producers* and put the exploitative bastards out of business. Even if they're not making as many gewgaws. After all, to win the local economic race, you don't need to make the most, you just need to make enough, and do so at a price your competitors can't sustain.

*Hell, this is basically how several for-profit businesses (walmart being a notable example) already work -- use overall resources to sell near or below cost in a local area to put other businesses into the dirt.

Think you could conceptually lay worship kysul as well (though it'd entail some anger juggling, iirc) and maybe get some abberation quelling going on. Or commanding, either way. Think there was some kinda' ring for talking to elementals/outsiders, too, though I may be getting that confused with the turning one. And don't forget the nature knowledge for talking to myconids!

Though Orc jesus would probably need to wait for AI fixin', unless that behavior where barracks have this tendency to completely implode on themselves has already been corrected while I wasn't paying attention. Hard to talk orc brethren into the fold when they've all gone and killed each other.

Street light outside just kinda' exploded. No fire (yet, anyway), but there was a nice loud thump sorta' noise and a fairly bright flash.

... if someone is waving their arm in your face while you're driving, you pull off the road, kick them out of the goddamn car, and drive off. Maybe just pull over and put them in the back seat if you're feeling generous. Maiming or something equivalent is also acceptable. That is an arm breaking offense, because it's trying to get you fucking killed. Seriously, I'm quite fond of family and whatnot, but if any of them did that to me when I was driving there would be a family member punched in the face and kicked to the side of the road because sweet fuck what the hell are they thinking?

Though yeah, with the college, check regularly et al. Also make sure to remain cordial and whatnot. Showing up in person can help, sometimes, too. All sorts of normal bureaucratic shove along stuff you could probably stand to do.

I've never even heard of this Kurtulmak person ???
Odd, considering the name came up shortly after one of your posts. I suppose conceptually you could have not read it, but...

Technically there's still some independent servers running. Freeinf took back up the mantel, last I checked. S'just kinda' sparse insofar as playerbase goes :-\ E: About 40 people playing a skirmish map right now, actually. No clue how many are speccing, though. Zombie Zone's even up ;_; If only there were a good 150-200 people to play it.

I was actually pretty decent at it -- not one of the best, but pretty regularly carried a squad or did some major contributions for larger teams. SOE's treatment of Inf earned them my unending and infinite hatred. Never will they get money from me, and if I can help it neither will Sony.

But yeah, for thread appropos material, Infantry had/has death-dealing hoverboards. Ramping over walls and lakes and whatnot and then eviscerating people was great.

Gwaaagh. Skittish-ish siamese looking kitten let me pick it up and pet it for a while, twice, without flipping out and running away~

Both her and one of the tabbies let me pet their bellies, too :3

They're getting friendlier! Fingers are the best of things! Soon, capture!

Question, Frumple: to which game(s) do you refer when you say "Infantry" and "Combined Arms"?
This'un. CA was one of the zones (basically games/maps within the infantry engine) that popped up during the initial freeinfantry period, and it is/was kinda' freaking awesome, imo.

Infantry in general was some of the best multiplayer gaming I've ever experienced. One of the best engines of its sort I've ever seen, and leveraged better than just about anything I've seen as well. Hella' quality, that thing.
