That... that's actually a word? Dutchling, whatever language that came out of needs to be taken out behind the shed and put down.

To be fair to your initial association, not only are many stereotypical pirates swarthy, they are almost universally described as such in literature.* It's hard to find a more stock description than "swarthy pirate".

*Insofar as I'm aware, anyway.

Basically it means you look like a deckhand on an old-time ship. Tanned, muscled, kinda' shady in character, etc. Mostly suggests dark skin, though, yeah. Not necessarily black, but possibly some indeterminate descent going on there somewhere sure.

17825
Postmodern nu-swarth, maybe?

17826
Swarthy, huh. I guess they fear you're going to abscond with their nubile daughters, now. You totes should! You can wear a frilly shirt and everything. Difficulty is getting them into bodices in this day and age, but you're a smart young lady and I'm sure you'll manage :)

Even so, giving a UN site a warning it is going to be attacked is still some top grade dumbfuckery, if indeed the 2 UN sites hit were even warned.
Well, yes, but if you're expecting anything but moral bankruptcy from either side of the conflict at this point, I'd wager you're not really paying attention, bleh. IDF's pretty strongly (re?)confirmed themselves scum tier (because regardless of what they say, what they've done paints an incredibly clear picture), and Hamas came into this on that level, so... dumbfuckery is to be expected. Decried, sure, but it seems to be the base state of the conflict.

I'm more curious* about legal ramifications and whatnot -- whether Israel is actually going to bite war crimes or squeak by with legally clear atrocity mongering. Hamas, being a terrorist organization, pretty much doesn't give a damn about that sort of thing (so far as I'm aware, anyway), but if our Israeli posters have been anything to go by Israel seems to think (or, at least, say) it's at a higher standard than, y'know, Hamas. Ostensibly, anyway. The death toll speaks otherwise, but eh.

*The only curiosity I have remaining regarding the ethical nature of the involved is morbid, largely in regards to what further depths will be sunk :-\

Also, I've never really understood the logic of "They're shooting rockets from a hospital/school (that are hilariously ineffective at doing any serious damage, by the way), so obviously if we give a warning we're totally in the clear to demolish the entire area with carpet bombing!".
I never did get an explanation for that line of reasoning in the egypt etc. thread. It's apparently something israeli propaganda is stating as gospel -- that giving warning somehow absolves all potential blame -- but it'd be nice to know why. Some sort of legal precedent in international courts or something? It's incredibly obvious it's not a moral argument, so it must be some sort of legal one, I'd think.

It's impossible without vast technological achievements and production facilities, and those are fucking impossible without major centralization! Aargh!
Not so much anymore, what with the whole technology thing that currently exists. Centralization isn't so much a necessary thing as it is a results of previous logistic constraints -- constraints which are dissolving ever more rapidly as communication and transport technology continues to develop, and largely no longer exist. You see it ever more often where even smaller scale units of organization -- businesses and whatnot -- will strongly decentralize their operations as they do business. It's even increasingly common for businesses to come together ad-hoc to complete projects rather than bother to centralize any particular aspect of the process involved (see: virtual groups and whatnot). There's absolutely zero reason beyond xenophobia for countries to not operate in the same manner.

Beyond that, "major" centralization hits the sufficient point for enabling that sort of thing on a considerably smaller scale than, y'know, russia.

I will say, it is pretty interesting to be seeing what IDF/Israeli propaganda is saying to convince its soldiers to blow up unaffiliated civilian infrastructure and its populous to support the current atrocities, more or less straight from the horse's mouth. Kinda' sad, considering the situation, but interesting. I mean, we more or less knew how hamas and co. were convincing its militants and support structure to do what they do, but this is hearing from the other side.

But yeah, as the aside Israel lost the claim to "live and let live" somewhere around the point they started doing the whole west bank settlement thing. Probably earlier, really, but that's definitely another confirmation that any words the country states about wanting peace and whatnot are completely hollow :-\

Of course not -- it's not in America. Nothing good can come out of godless freedom hating ruskies. C'mon owl, get with the sterotype.
But pretty much the only point of contention I can see is that Putin isn't very pro-gun. Besides that he seems like everything they'd want in a President.
You're forgetting the rampant xenophobia, owl. I'd like to say it's not as serious as stereotypes make it out to be -- and maybe it isn't, in other areas, I'unno -- but the simple fact that russia == not USA and Putin == Not American earns them both the unending and unequivocal hatred of a significant portion of the conservative base in the area I'm in (and, presumably, other parts of the country), regardless of what they're doing. Most of the ones I've heard talking don't even know what the hell russia is doing or is like (and don't care, honestly), they just spit on it because it's not the USA.

... are you kidding? It's the easiest thing in the world to kill a dead thing. It's already dead! You don't have to do anything. It comes pre-killed. Stick a fork in it and walk off. Or just walk off, no need to waste a perfectly good fork.

Because it's international children punting day and the local punting council made the requisite delivery for your domicile. Get to punting! It's that time of year.

Note: I take no responsibility for any criminal charges that may arise from taking this advice.

... so they have multivitamin gummies now. Like. Gummy bears, but multivitamins. Actually more like sugared gumdrops but whatever.

And, uh. They. Actually taste pretty good? Honestly one of the best tasting gummy products I have consumed in my lifetime, which is just ruddy weird. Health-stuff managing a better taste than the dedicated candy makers, what's up with that?
