General Discussion / Re: Things that made you sad today thread.

... sad thread not really the place for it, but I have to say that "the fires of Mount Toad" sounds like innuendo for something absolutely horrifying. Probably some kind of venereal disease.

Though yeah, the constant attempts to disenfranchise chunks of the voting population here in the states is... kinda' frustrating, I guess is the nicest word for it.

I want to say the modern reasoning (well, beyond partisan party bullshit) is something along the lines of throwing them a bone so they're somewhat more content with being poor backwoods drunkards,* instead of being poor backwoods drunkards blowing up the local infrastructure. Also to give some more weight to folks actually on the ground for the non-urban areas, which make up a lot more of the country geographically. I couldn't say how well this has actually been working out (though I could guess that the answer is "poorly to the point of being farcical").

*Not 100% representative of the rural population. Maybe 90% representative, but anyway. Yes, as a poor rural pleb having been surrounded by drunk poor rural plebs for most of my life, my perceptions are slightly colored by the general practices of north florida's particular brand of swamp dweller.

Hey, as a dirty rural pleb I readily welcome favoritism for my fellows being excised from the democratic system. It's probably overdue. Some kind of check might be nice to keep our clueless city dwelling overlords from legislatively wrecking the entire non-urban countryside, but other than that maybe some parity would be nice for a generation or two.

Getting rid of the electoral college would probably help too, since that means no matter where you are, your vote matters as much as anyone elses vote.
Yeesssss... functionally disenfranchise those dirty rural plebeians. Only the cities will ever matterrrrr, ahahahahahahaaaa!

Incredibly meager chance to get free games, mostly. So far as I can tell.

E: Well, beyond the standard competition related nonsense. Remember Dutch, all you really need to do to get people to do incredibly silly things is separate them into teams.

Hey. Step off, broseph. Pink is everybody's color. It's what we are on the inside. No one group gets to claim it, the second most wonderful of colors*, as their own.

*After purple, the best and most wonderful of colors.

Gloriously gamed would be more accurate than rigged, methinks. I doubt valve had anything to do with that beyond not really thinking things through re: what the greater internet population would do to a team based competition of that nature.

Could probably end up with Foxtrot Papa, which sounds like the name of a swing band or something. I... I can accept that.

Poisonous leaves and something nasty about the edible bits, too, iirc. Think it was either liver failure or cancer. Something along those lines. Is reason's they've stopped using it in root beer and whatnot.

Or maybe that was sassafras? One of those two. Maybe both, I'unno. Moral of the story is that nature wants to kill you, eat lab grown stuff instead.

I was thinking more giant catbong, myself. Xant is not amused by stonercat's antics.

... oh. So it wouldn't really mean much for an ascii player? I mean, the multi-z might, but not the text separation... whatever.

Gen X and Gen Y. Ranges of birth years, generally. X is around the 60s 'till early 80s, Y (also known as millennials) is mid-late 80s through 2000 or so. There's pretty marked shifts in cultural trends between them and the ones before 'em. I kinda' like to think of it as the "You assholes left us with bigger problems than who our neighbor is porking" generations.

Wait, what's this about "Text will be Text" and multi-z-levels? :o

A wizard appeared on the modding board a couple weeks ago.

Y'know, I've grazed over several pages in that thread and I still have no idea what it's supposed to be doing.

Fake-edit: Oh, wait. Multiple z-levels. I actually see what they're talking about now. Tilesets are arcane gibberish to me, so it took me more than a minute to figure out what was going on in the screenshots. Still not sure what the text separation bits are supposed to... do, really. But people seem excited, so... cooee.

... J, I feel like my playlist (note the singular: I have one.) would drive you up the wall. Admittedly, there's only a few thousand songs in it these days, but everything just gets shoved into one playlist and randomize hit a few times. And then shuffle turned on, usually. Sometimes an album or somethin' will get stuck together in one part of it, but... sometimes not!

this pie
Wait, wait. Wait. Singular? Enough peaches you can't eat them all in two days, on top of blackberries and apples? How big is this pie going to be, exactly? Because I'm getting flashbacks to some old FFXI(?) webcomic thing with ballistic pie, right now.
