Holy hell. I was idly looking in to what the economic impact of losing cali would be, when I came across this page and... what in the blue hell are we doing down here in florida? We're somehow spending somewhere over four times the amount of federal taxes we're paying and spending the most taxes of any state, by nearly double the next highest (Texas).
Also a moment of appreciation for Illinois, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, California, Massachusetts, Indiana, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Delaware, Nebraska, Connecticut, Colorado, Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Utah, Rhode Island, Missouri, and freaking Wyoming, the twenty states that were a net gain for the United State federal budget in 2012. Everyone else: You sucked in 2012. You were outperformed by goddamn Wyoming. Hang your head in shame.
I have now learned that it's probably Florida that needs to sink into the depths. Doing so a couple of years ago would have apparently reduced the federal (E:State related) spending deficit by something close to 90%, which is completely ridiculous.
