Holy hell. I was idly looking in to what the economic impact of losing cali would be, when I came across this page and... what in the blue hell are we doing down here in florida? We're somehow spending somewhere over four times the amount of federal taxes we're paying and spending the most taxes of any state, by nearly double the next highest (Texas).

Also a moment of appreciation for Illinois, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, California, Massachusetts, Indiana, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Delaware, Nebraska, Connecticut, Colorado, Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Utah, Rhode Island, Missouri, and freaking Wyoming, the twenty states that were a net gain for the United State federal budget in 2012. Everyone else: You sucked in 2012. You were outperformed by goddamn Wyoming. Hang your head in shame.

I have now learned that it's probably Florida that needs to sink into the depths. Doing so a couple of years ago would have apparently reduced the federal (E:State related) spending deficit by something close to 90%, which is completely ridiculous.

I think that normally is supposed to involve cali physically drifting off into the ocean, not off underneath the waves. Becoming an island, basically. It's a silly thing to hope for either way considering something like that would pretty much destroy the US economy, but cutting off the nose to spite the face is a fairly normal thing in political daydreams.

Half-minute hero looked pretty decent when I was watching through an LP of it, for what that's worth.

The nixonian elephant clown one, of course. No need to get exclusive.

Yeah, I don't think there is. But you're welcome to rant on the subject if you want to, since you've already made it pretty clear you're not interested in actually discussin' stuff in this thread. Ain't gonna' try t'stop yeh, heh.

Today, I think I felt nostalgic for the nostalgia thread. Also in before the "this will fall under the purview of the emotion threads" comment. Just to get that out of the way.

I... think there's some option or another when you modify the first post? Push comes to shove, you can just lock the thread and make a new one in the appropriate forum. Would let you spruce up the OP and clear the thread of GD clutter, too...

FWIW, this thread would probably fit better in FG&RP. Could even make some little game out of it, since the actual function of "post random links" is mostly taken up by the emotion threads.

* kaijyuu doesn't know what to say about this.
* kaijyuu realizes this is a sign to convert to Kaijudaism.

E:In immediate retrospect, if kaijudaism lived up to its name, that might be a religion I could get behind. G-dzilla promised the destruction of all Mechayahwehs, and I darn sure haven't seen any lately.

Do not act towards violence. Act to tell him that you don't like him swearing his head off with his ego. He can be boastful, but do it nicely, in other words.
... as Nenjin has noted, he's already tried that (I'd imagine repeatedly, considering the length of their interaction) to no avail.

But... yeah, I'unno. Seems to me about the only thing you could do, given the information given, is start working toward cutting ties. People change, et al, and sometimes the friend of twenty years is not the friend of tomorrow. When it comes to that point, there's just... not much you can really do. 'Bout the most is suck it up and try to minimize the damage the break causes to shared friends, because the break's almost certainly coming.

I'm with you about the over-focus on graphics lately and I honestly don't care about the difference between text-based, ASCII, Half-Life 1 graphics and the latest 3D super realistic game which came out.
Apropos of nothing, reading this made me have flashbacks to like the late 90s. It's amazing I've been reading basically that exact same line for over a decade and a half.

That... that might say something about the actual existence of a recent over-focus on graphics. Unless we're talking recent in the, like, centennial sense or something.

Yeah I've seen that before, so how does one start on the path to modding?
Mostly with a text editor, ha. There's also a vaguely ridiculously huge modding manual for D3, and probably something similar for D4. You might take a gander at this thing, but from what I understand most of your scut work would be done via simple text. Probably something like notepad++. And yeah, check around the forums -- there's good stuff at both the places Delta mentioned. Downloading a few mods and poking them to see how they were done is, of course, also a good idea.

*coughs* Doesn't System Shock 2 have some kind of co-op mode?

Yeah, bronze or copper arm or something like that. Should be... 3e1f? Around there. Needs some sort of e/f caster, anyway. Either the second or third tier of construction, too. It's pretty costly, gem/caster/research wise.

As for arrow spam in general, it's not really the worst of ideas (especially for, y'know, those handful of nations that are really good at it -- anyone with longbows, poison bow whatsits, etc.). Throw in some dudes with some sort of moral-hitting spam (terror, etc.) and you can cause plenty of armies to route pretty easily. Arguably worse than worthless against your average SC or thug (they'll survive the arrow rain, get into your army, and then the arrow rain kills more of your dudes than theirs), but eh.

And, of course, the fun lasts right up until someone can cast rain or darkness (or both, for great fun), and then your entire archer force gets flattened, forever.

That... looks pretty neat, and also entirely too heavy on the system resources for my old clunker to play. Have t'remember it for the future.
