Or Elvides, if it's of Greek origin.
Your words are an inspiration. In retrospect, I think things would have been more interesting if Elvis had performed in nothing but oil and a bronzed codpiece.

... I wasn't sure which weekend was next weekend (29th or 5th?), so was abstaining until something along the lines of a time was mentioned :P

Because I couldn't say without knowing that. And then a question I could provide response to came up, ha. But probably could, m'self. Just don't actually know.

Yeah, t'be honest what tends to be sterotypical redneck behavioral patterns (I speak as someone who partially is one, and grew up amongst them) is fairly easy to divorce from normal conservative stuff. It's more of a very practical thing* with a side of beer, (near) poverty, and individualism. I've met very liberal/progressive rednecks. Sorta' kinda' am one m'self.

*Bring on the duct tape, if you gotta' put in a new building even the sterotypical bookworm shrugs and helps out, random wild animals in your house is something laughed at and poked with a stick and/or killed and ate, etc.

He's said that it wasn't the irish he disliked.
I, uh. I think this may be the problem, because I didn't actually see TD1 say that. It's entirely possible I missed that bit, or aren't fully understanding some of the cultural/lingual nuance in D's statements.

I don't think anyone would disagree the IRA were by and large stereotypical terrorist scum, but there's a problem when you equate Irish to IRA, as part of the same statements that deny there are any Irish in Ireland. That's... actually the sort of thing that would set folks around here off. It's what set Desc off, I believe.

... regardless of if you are or not, what you wrote read like something straight out of the mouth of a massive islamophobe, right down to the parallels involving terrorism. I wouldn't call it something to take personally, just to take note of, and perhaps find a different way of communicating the point you're trying to make if the misunderstanding troubles you.

Why would you do that. Poor Santa ;_;
Guessing that's Santa's corporate overlord, who is very displeased that Nick's busking has gone poorly.

Senior Laughing Belly doesn't perform, he gets the begging can to the head and the eightfold manifest gutkick.

See, stuff like that is why I would have, like, checked.

I didn't have any input on the event. Just suddenly woke up lightly choking on smoke and received the whole "Oh yeah, I set your back yard on fire. You should probably keep an eye on that." notification.

General Discussion / Re: What does ¨hidden¨ mean

Um, just that? You can hide whether you're logged in or not. In, like, that huge list of names that's normally below the main index.

Also, edit button. Well, modify, technically. Either way. No need to triple post.

Part of the (previously open) back porch is getting converted into a second bathroom. Part of the process of doing that has involved getting a new hot water heater in (among other things), which has involved holes in the wall for piping and suchlike. Eventually like a quarter of what is currently the house's back wall will be coming out -- hopefully once the conversion finishes getting walled in, but this whole thing has been kinda' half-arsed in terms of planning and process*, so there's no telling.

It's not too bad, but right now there's a new hole in the main bed room's closet (complete with exposed water piping~), leading up to the attic, which itself effectively is exposed to the outside. Plus some other places.

*As tends to happen with the person that's the cause of it, these days. Old increasingly-impatient fellow with a nasty habit of calling someone else in to complete a job if whoever was working on it before is going too slow for his tastes, which are often somewhat unreasonable. This leads to many chefs in the construction et al kitchen, with unsurprising results. Case in point: Dead wood and construction leavings being burnt without bothering to warn, y'know, the people in the house, or checking to see if local ordinances were being violated (probably), or actually doing more than a half-ass job of making sure the impromptu fire-pit was actually safe to burn stuff in.

Yaaay, something like 1/8th the back yard on fire. Yaay, not being told by goddamn anyone they were about to set the back yard on fire. Yay for being woken up from a nap because half the fucking house is filled with smoke caused by some prick setting the back yard on fire without telling anyone that was aware of open windows (not that it would have helped entirely if they were closed, since self-same pricks have put holes in parts of the walls) of the incoming smoke generator.

Now having a harder time breathing, likely going to get saddled with a headache because of it, the entire bloody house smells terrible, and I can't even go back to sleep because there's a goddamn (probably illegal, definitely unsafe) fire in the back yard and someone has to check on it regularly to make sure the whole frakking neighborhood doesn't go up in flames.

Damn it, people.

General Discussion / Re: Things that made you go "WTF?" today o_O

Today, I got to witness water pressure in all its glory. Seeing gravity and tight spaces launch a jet of water something like 8-10 feet straight up was pretty great.

Also crawled around in a fire damaged attic. Not badly damaged, but enough I thoroughly learned that clambering over charred wood in tan jeans is not a recipe for maintaining their color. Same for hands, though ash is apparently pretty easy to wash off.

That's silly, though, of course. E.T. is obviously Sith. Finger glows red, maaaan.

More tellingly, they're trolling some barely developed planet. Probably getting their jollies in before the invasion fleet arrives.
