Play With Your Buddies / Re: The Second Reign of The Sorcerous Queen
« on: March 19, 2014, 11:11:11 am »
Not exactly. The game itself is just Warlock: Masters of the Arcane, with an role-playing/player interaction layer of sorts based on Long Live the Queen -- specifically, I think, the LP that's been being run on this very forum. It's a neat idea.

E: Incidentally, it just came to me, Irony, that if you wanted to make things particularly silly, you could have people do stuff like fight pokemon duels (via that free PvP thing that's been floating around, or something equivalent) -- any agreed upon PvP setting, really -- to settle grievances.

Your school's logo is... drunk DDR?

E: oh, wait, empty space mostly-swastika, gotcha.

Ah ha. Yes, have read the second one. Can say, there's a fair amount of quite nice Nanoha fiction, both crossover and not. Plenty of stuff to enjoy, so have fun~

Can... can you post links? Without violating forum ToS? Or maybe post them over in the fic recommendation thread...

My main concern is that it's being caused by something I'm doing or not doing. Partly it's because I'm 24 and I don't know anyone who's suddenly needed glasses at this age, but also because I could be looking after myself better. I get plenty of exercise, but could improve my diet and do spend a lot of time reading and using the computer.

When it comes to glasses I worry they'll make it worse in the long run like they have with some friends.

Guess it's time to book an appointment with the doctor.
*waves vaguely* Doctor yes.

From what I've picked up re: Making things worse and diet and whatnot, it's bloody close to impossible in modern times -- yes, even if your diet is basically horrible and you spend a lot of time on the computer*. If your eyes are getting worse, there's not actually much you could have done about it. You won the genetic lottery, and that's basically that (barring the occasional edge case, but edge case is edge.). Majority of stuff saying otherwise is modern snake oil, plain and simple.

Friends thinking glasses made things worse in the long run is frank bullshit. It would have got worse anyway, and glasses didn't have a thing to do with it. Would have happened if they wore contacts, would have happened if they wore glasses, and would have happened and been accompanied by a great deal of inconvenience and regular headaches if they had no vision correcting tools at all.

E: Hrm. Though sorry if some of that came off as somewhat aggressive. I don't exactly mean to demean your friends or anything. They're mostly just making a correlation/causation mistake. S'just misinformation is somewhat annoying, especially on a topic like this. I've gotten a fair amount of flak over the years due to strongly preferring lower-light conditions (i.e. "open the blinds and leave the lights off" kinda' stuff. Half the people in this state are apparently light blind or something.), so the subject's a little soapbox-y for me.

* Vision damage due to lighting conditions basically takes single-candle -- as in actual one-tiny-wick candle, not some odd measurement scale -- illumination for hours a day, for years, before anything meaningful happens. And trying to read stuff like 1800s and earlier writing. You're not going to see that these days. Even a computer screen alone gives better quality of light.

Sounds about right, if it's not something more dangerous than just short-sightedness. Which can happen as you age, yes. S'just one of those things.

Welcome to the world of glasses! Or contacts, I guess. It'll take a while to get used to 'em, but it's not really all that bad. Except for the whole peripheral vision thing if you go the glasses route. If you do, I highly recommend titanium frames -- flexible metals in general, really. They're a bit more expensive, but exponentially harder to break.

Well, if you've got the cash and you've never been to a burlesque, there's probably worse ways to spend an afternoon.

... the real WTF to that post is that it's apparently a live action parody play. That... that may or may not include tusken raider lap dances. And, like. Erotic (?) ewok (?) performances? There... there's some youtube stuff of it.

Bobette (Booba?) Fett is apparently pretty bendy.

Sales tax can vary down to the city level here in the states, actually, and sometimes occur on top of a state sales tax. Modern inventory and whatnot being what it is, it's mostly laziness/tradition ("No one else does it, so neither will we") than anything regarding time or effort savings, though. Little bit of accounting simplification, but eh, that's what computers are for.

... which is to say that the normal map (that you've played) is LoL's dominion map with a minor twist. Got'cha.

That... doesn't speak well for deviation from derivation :-\

Community doesn't really mean to much to me in regards to these games... I just mute everyone that starts spewing vitriol anyway. More interested in mechanics -- especially broader level stuff -- than anything. Defaulting to a more arena based map isn't the worst of things they could do, but... it's still "This is a Warcraft 3 custom map" level stuff, y'know? Not necessarily a bad thing, especially if you haven't played old SC1 or WC3 custom maps to death (many of which were great, and being compared to them isn't always the worst of comparisons), but... I kinda' have...

Sooo... folks that are playing. Does it do anything new, so far as breaking off from the old AoS ripoff/DotA humping formula goes? Anything that separates it from basically being LoL with superhero skins?

Nah. .9H4 is for windows (though there's mac and linux versions, too), it's just boss M updated to I on the website and didn't notice the mistake. If you want it, just download it from here. It'll DL as a .man file, but 7zip (and presumably winrar et al) will open it fine.

As for fountain frequency, m'pretty sure it varies somewhat by luck. Silly slinger halflings (read: Starting with 22 luck) will usually see one every level or two at the least. On top of rolling in all the other loot that pops up, ha.

Re: Luck: Fountains can only train so much per dungeon level, same with any other stat training. The full list found here, for a bit longer is
Quote
Luck
   * Adventuring at a dungeon depth higher than your character level trains luck -- it's dangerous and involves great risk-taking!
   * Using an item with a random effect (such as a wand of wonder) and getting a beneficial effect trains Luck. [Note from frumple: I don't think there are any random effect items in the game >_>. Well, except that hat, maybe...
   * Using a magical fountain and gaining a beneficial effect trains Luck.
   * Surviving a critical hit from an enemy trains Luck.

And ah, re: Stability. Yeah, about the only way to get stuff back without an alignment hit is bartering or requesting them back which... I think requires a minimum of 13 cha, at least for the former. You can also usually summon stuff on top of them if you've got complicity turned off >_>

As for loot hiding... iirc, the work-around to that was to drop your bags on the ground before taking the character dump.

Aannndd re: Ashy, yeah, I don't remember if he was bugged or not... think he was at one point, but I want to say he wasn't in the latest version (Which, iirc, was actually 6.9H4. If you check the change log, .9H2 and .9I are identical. I'm... about to go check, actually.). Would have to kick on an ashy priest to check, I guess, but... lazy. Dude was always a bit of a pain to gain favor with, despite being arguably one of the best gods for casters (due to that inherent potential... a human ashy wizard can get ridiculous spell DCs, hohoho... ashy/sabine would be even better, but sabine's even more annoying to worship, to a degree.).

E: Yup. H4 is newer than I. Boss M never did fix that for us poor windows buggers...

If I wanted to, I could probably use that to work out how much my grades slipped per day of fapping.
Ha ha. Joke's on you, last time I checked the research it's been shown/strongly suggested that regular masturbation, especially before tests, actually improves grades on average. Chemical releases involved with it -- and sex, of course -- are apparently good for your brain. And like, on top of the whole stress release aspect that's going to help out anyway.
