General Discussion / Re: Sheb's European Politics Megathread
« on: March 14, 2014, 02:13:13 pm »
I don't read this thread so I didn't know this was an ongoing discussion here. I made a new thread for it.

I don't want to read this thread anyway, so just repeat all your points over there please. ;)
... utter aside, but this is an incredibly american post, isn't it? This one is too, by using american to mean the USA, haha.

Poor europe/EU. I think I'll be rooting for you to win your cheese, now, just for the hell of it. Won't make much of a difference to me regardless, 'bout the only thing that'd be region locked (EU, anyway. Most of my fancy name stuff comes from asia or south of the border.) that I eat is parmesan, and that only rarely.

... maybe it's a regional thing? I don't eat the stuff, but family does and when they hit a buffet that has the junk, I've never heard any complaints from 'em.

I'unno, only buffet I've been to recently has cheesecake and cinnamon rolls (tiny ones, but whatever) so I haven't exactly gave a damn about the cobbler.

It's called a POD, and I was wondering what opinions here at the Bay12 are on the issue.
Go check the european politics thread :P

It's... not? S'plenty of folks that stop by a restaurant alone, from what I've seen. Sometimes you just want something different and there's nobody to go with, so...

Remain calm -- go into them with a smile and a bounce to your step, even if you're unprepared. Especially if you're unprepared. Embrace the challenge of walking into a unknown situation, and treat the work less like recollection of knowledge and more like a puzzle to be deciphered on the spot. And enjoy the game of it. Even though it may result in failure, attempting to "beat" a test or bit of work you're unprepared for can be fun, if you make it so.

And if you make it so, you will do better than otherwise. Fear is the mind killer, etc.

Which you may already know, but it bears repeating. Adams really did have a good bit of advice. Rule 1: Don't Panic.

You loose a game by the same process you throw a discus, Darvi. And then someone shoots it out of the air with a shotgun. It's kinda' like skeet shooting, but more expensive.

... I've seen folks use loose when they mean lose and lose when they mean loose all the freaking time. Mind you, I also read a lot of fanfiction, so...

Do see it outside the 'net, too, often enough.

General Discussion / Re: The Dream Thread
« on: March 14, 2014, 06:19:40 am »
First dream today was... it was great. Forget how it started, but I ended up getting killed and then the fun began! By which I mean I ended up as the most chill alligator, like, ever, and did alligator things for a while. Then I ended up getting killed again, and became a bear! Most notable thing as a bear was getting in a fight with, iirc, a giant otter and the both of us getting wrapped up by some sort of giant snake. Then the snake bit the otter and I forget what else happened for that segment, but it was pretty great fun all around. But the next (and last) segment was the best one.

That one, I ended up body hopping into a dragon, hahaha! It was pretty great. I spent the first bit building a trading partnership with a gorilla. I'd give it edible grasses, and it would let me watch baby gorillas sleep and play and whatnot, which was preternaturally cute (this being a dream, and all. It was totes not creepy, more like watching kittens play.). We also had an arrangement where if the momma' gorilla noticed I was watching, daddy gorilla could net bonus points with the lady by chasing me off, after which we would go hang for a while and I'd give the daddy gorilla more grass to feed his family with. Then a bit of other stuff I can't remember happened (there was a number of transition and filler segments, really. I've forgotten about half the dream, I think.), and I ended up going back to the sleeping island and further neat stuff happened. Water round me started bubblin' and then some kind of anime-ized age of wonders faction started coming popping out of it. One awesome fight scene later (dragon vs. hordes of undead! Plenty of variety, too. Ghosts, zombies, caster-things. Pretty colors, much fun.), their boss comes through and recruits me, so between dimensions I go. Then I start getting ready for the first defense mission, and the kind of pre-fight episode was the locals offering a lesbian couple that had gotten picked up somewhere along the way the chance to get married (undead fantasy land more progressive than home, apparently), and then wedding preparations and conversation between locals and the dynamic sapphic duo. It was delightful, and not nearly as sudden or thematically disjointed within the context of the dream (that I've forgotten already, of course ::)).

And then I woke up. And went back to sleep because it was like two in the morning and dreamed some more, but the rest of them I've forgotten entirely. Pretty sure they were quite nice, too, though.

... that'un's best dealt with via "shoulda'" and leaving the details be.

Oh. Yeah, my suggestion there would be to ask, especially if there's not very many in there. Simple "Anyone mind if I kill some of these lights?" tends to do. I actually pretty regularly go through several hours in one of the campus labs either with lights completely off or just one on. Get people coming in and out, too, even when the lights are off. Long as people can see enough, they tend to be pretty flexible about killing some of the illumination. Just gotta' get 'em used to it, heh.

More likely to get a yes if there's windows and they're open, by the by. Many people, from what I've seen, have a conscious or unconscious dislike of those hyperglaring florescent pains in the eyes most schools use, and are not unwilling to accept a respite.

Hahaha, friend lemon! Blankets are absolutely amazing things. Little bit of extra effort and you can even put up supports and whatnot so you can get further back from the screen.

Just... pillow fort that joint up, is what I'm saying. It works. It looks a little silly and you might want to stick a small fan under there with you, if it's an option, but it works.

I'm imagining an extremely campy Dwarven Disco.
I can only imagine dwarven disco would have absolutely incredible percussion. Burning Heart of the Mountain on the Dance Floor, hit mix of the Underkingdom? This is disco that collapses entire nations into the under layers.

E: And now I'm wondering if one of those buggerhuge drums have ever been used as part of a disco tune...

Today's reconfirmation of joy: Electroswing is basically everything I love combined into a single package.

Its the lose vs loose that always drives me batty.
... and apparently contractions *rimshot*

Though that one does seem to trip people up, despite them being very different words in both meaning and pronunciation.

Hrm... maybe after wrapping the alarm in blankets. Otherwise it's just going to be outside and beeping obnoxiously and probably pissing off the neighbors, too.

But then you'd probably be getting the blankets dirty. Best to take the tauntaun route.
