General Discussion / Re: Fanfic Recomendations

There's... more than a couple decent 'ruto fics with Neji or Hanabi either as main characters or central figures, for what that's worth. I... can't actually recall any off the top of my head, but they're out there. Be an area you'd have to skim into the smaller fics, though. Lengthy ones are harder to find (though there's still a couple).

E: Actually, I'm looking for one I think I do remember, but... anyway. Fic walking looking for it ran into this: A Fox and a Shark Walk into a Bar, which I remember being amusing for reasons I can't recall, because the last time I read it was probably not long after it was last updated. Pretty sure it died, but it was fun until then.

Also haha! I wasn't remembering a Neji fic, I was remembering this. Hell if I remember why. Ah well.

I'm more of a pie man anyhow.
There's nothing stopping us from putting a pie crust on the bottom of the omnicake, and then, I'unno, doing the criss-cross pie thing over the entire monstrosity. Gigantic cake pie.

... in retrospect, I am now wondering if someone has yet to bake a cake pie, and if not, why the hell not‽

E: And now I'm somewhat downtrodden that I don't have access to a baking-capable stove ;_;

I'm not really sure where I'd start on a cake pie, but by the gods I'd be willing to give it a shot and see where it goes. Single layer chocolate cake wrapped in a pie crust to start?

This was nice. Last time I read it, I think it was in the 200k range, but... whatever. Iirc, inquisitorial ship ends up at Babylon 5. And. Stuff happens! Vaguely remember pretty great stuff. It's been a while.

... probably going to put it on the re-read list, now.

E: There's actually a good handful of damn good B5 fics, now that I think about it. It regularly surprises me.

People, let's be sensible. All cake types are delicious in their own way.
And on cakeday should be shoved together into one giant omnicake of aortal destruction.

... unless it's got that damned confetti coconut bullshit. That stuff can screw right off.

Ehn, I forget the details but it's been readjusted so it doesn't get too crazy. Some math thing that makes it work out, I'unno. Code's somewhere in there. They do stack up to some degree, though.

Now, earlier in T4's development? Passive movement speed shoring up an active buff could literally break the game. Could bring movement cost below zero and actually have you gain energy whenever you move (So you could move 10-20 times, and then get a free attack, and then move 10-20 times again, and...), which was pretty hilarious but hella' broken.

You can really stack up the passive +movespeed these days, though. A lot more item slots offer it. Personally tend to wear feathersteel for a long, looong time, heh. Think my last mindslayer's been wearing the thing since like the pre-teens (and is currently in the forties.).

E: Well. That was... borderline embarrassing. Character couldn't hit prox enough times in a row (Acc was dead even with Prox's defense) to actually bring the bugger's health down.

So, uh. I kited him around a pond until he drowned.

I mean, yeesh. I knew it could happen, sure. I knew killing Prox as a general thing wasn't exactly the hardest thing to do. But killing him without actually being able to damage him? That's a new one for me.

Kinda' hilarious, but being in a situation where you actually resort to that because it's the only way (short of going to another zone and getting some levels, anyway) to take Prox down...

Suggestions?
Best suggestion would be to avoid conjecture or suggestions in the middle of the happy thread :-\

... telemarketer/scammer. Called. Trying to ripoff the elderly. Asked if there were any here. Told 'em no. Dude said I sounded like someone over 65. I... I'm not even 30 yet ;_;

First time I've been confused with an old person, though. Folks get the gender wrong all the time, but that's the first time the age has been wildly disparate.

General Discussion / Re: Towards feminist programming languages

It would not surprise me to learn of some feminist claiming that Mary Curie's experiments were the only real science because it was the only science done by a woman. She's not even close to the only female scientist, but she's the only one a feminist would probably think of.
... actually, when it comes up in regard to the harder sciences it's usually to point out where/how gender bias has royally fucked up the scientific process. At least that's how I've seen feminist scientific critiques tend to play out. Which is something has happened quite a few times. Actually had a teacher that had worked with Elisabeth Lloyd a little, during his graduate studies, on "The Case of the Female Orgasm", which was more or less about exactly that (bias infecting the scientific process) in relation to evolutionary science.

Which... yeah. Bias causes problems in science, gender bias or otherwise. Amazing, right?

Mm. Yeah, the biggest thing with chatting folks up, if you haven't noticed already, is to -- as a rule -- never try to continue chatting if they're at two << thingies or less. If you run out of whatever those things are, you'll often get hit with a reaction penalty bigger than any gains you may have made in the lead up to it. Once you've got certain folks reaction up (mayors are almost always a good target from that), you'll occasionally get e-mails from 'em with job offers.

And yeah, news is where it's at. That'll show you where pretty much all the action is going down -- major faction clashes, bandit crap, all sorts of stuff. Good for hunting missions.

E: Oh yeah! Also, while you're chatting folks up, you can pay attention to what they're saying. Much of it's junk, but just like with GH2 some of it's rumors and suchlike. You can occasionally pick up names to call for jobs and whatnot doing that, I think. Unless I'm seriously conflating the two games on that front. I mean, I know GH2 was better about it, but I do believe Gh1 still had roughly the same mechanic, just not as polished.

I don't see the resemblance between Chewbacca and a sand-midget.
Bushwookie. Wookie that is like a bush. Green wookie midget. Grass type jawa.

But ah, I see the resemblance.

Though, to reiterate:
Battlefield 5: Tatooine Edition.
I'unno man, the thought of running around as a Jawa teabagging people and shouting racial slurs against the Hutt is oddly appealing.

Elektro is one of the two cities, the other being Cherno. They're short for Elektrosadmuffin and Chernobagsalad.
Illumination! So is the Electra insinuation intentional or...?

also good gods this post is more quote than post

Re: Mission givers, follow the news, check your e-mail (/memo thingy.), and chat up everyone, but especially bigwigs of varying sorts (and anyone selling anything, of course). It really doesn't get too terribly more complicated than that, iirc... missions should roll in fine at that point.

Maybe give a circuit or two of the towns, building up major leaders reaction to you? It'd probably net another point or two of conversation (and possibly flirtation, if you've got it), t'boot. As for finding major leaders, following the news, again, can work, but so can just swinging by any buildings that look unusual, compared to the majority of the town's style.

S'all I can remember, in any case.

... yeah, little late, but I'd probably advocate against a new thread, as well. Boss Toad's mentioned more than once if a thread is spun off specifically to isolate a single argument, it's probably better that it not happen and the either the argument be dropped or the originating thread be locked, possibly both.

Which, Ele-P, you could do the locking bit >_>

Croutons seem to go well with just about everything, too. Apparently. So probably!

Only entrails dishes I can think off the top of my head are haggis and chitlins*, and I've never tried either (with or without croutons), but hell, breaded haggis sounds like something you'd do, so croutons would probably go well with it.

*E: Though apparently they make chitlins out of things besides possum. I have learned something new!
