... even more, huh? I'm never going to find that ruddy femur, am I? Especially not on a character that can actually make good use of it.

Makes me sad. One of the (possibly the) best one-hand weapons in the game, that thing...

AoE magic would probably help out, there. Forget what vans are resistant/immune to (if anything), but some poison clouds or somethin' would probably help out early, and later you've got plenty for squishing armies. Alternately anything with multiple attacks (there's probably summons, if nothing else) is going to have an easier time dispelling the van illusions.

Eh, at least where I'm at you have to register with a party to have any influence re: voting regarding primary stuff. Which you kinda' want, especially for more localized junk. So even if you don't agree with some or most of a particular party, you register for one anyway. Just one of those various buggerups related to the states' voting system, really.

Get yourself a kidney stone, and then you'll have something to compare to. If you haven't already, anyway.

I've started getting sinus headaches recently (sinus headache medicine clears it up, anyway), which are supposed to be, well, roughly the same thing in terms of pain as clusters, maybe slightly less. And they're bad, don't mistake that -- "I'd really like to claw out my eye, now" bad -- but the kidney stone was roughly an order of magnitude worse. S'just... words to not describe. Surgery and recuperation (unrelated to the stone) was barely a blip, despite having a baseball sized chunk of me cut out and left open for several months. Stone had me expelling everything from every orifice because of pain and basically incapable of personal mobility or coherence. It was pretty incredible. Sinus headache is second greatest pain, but it's a fairly distant second.

The study I remember -- mind you, this was 2001-ish, haven't kept up on it -- links it to our current lifestyle. Puberty in chickens is advanced to a younger age by exposure to quality light for hours longer than they'd get in nature, and the same process might be active in humans. Or it could be all the hormones in our food. Or something. I don't know, don't take my post as fact.
S'also been the suggestion of just plain more/better food/health, outright.

And then there's flat individual variation. I got hit a few years before the average, m'self (first dreams et al around 9), without much in the way of what's suggested as general accelerating influences. Multiple variable issue is multiple variable issue, basically. It's unlikely there's any single major influence. There's likely a host of them, then gods only know how many minor ones. As it is with most things, really...

The broadcasting satellite will be equipped with orbit to ground death lasers to clear obstructions with, of course. Kinda' like the GDI, only commercial.

Don't think so, Iron. According to the article the kid's not born, yet.

If you like R. Blot, you're probably familiar with nonjon. If not... well, nonjon! Leans toward crack-ish stuff, but pleasing all around, in general. Fairly sure They've got each other on their favorite author lists, anyway.

Which... yeah. Remember those favorite lists on FF.N. Finding critters you like, checking their lists, finding critters in there you like, checking their lists... rinse, repeat. S'one of the major reasons I end up with 100+ tabs open some days.

I think there's several of those in the last post I made for the 2013 book challenge. Most on the list was fairly readable!

More than that... good gods. ME, HP, and Naruto (Check Nugar -- you'll probably like People Lie if you haven't already read it) in particular have freaking bucketloads of good stuff, and WH40k has more than a little. Do you have, like, preferences?

E: Also, don't let familiarity with source material stop you from reading stuff. A great deal of the better fics don't require intimate or even cursory knowledge of canon. Gods know I've never played Fate/stay night, and I've read tons of the stuff. Same for Mass Effect, most of Naruto... buncha' stuff.

And as you read more of a particular series's stuff, the canon information kinda' seeps in by osmosis.

Could also grep your notes from Darksun and make them "survival". Then you've got an excuse for cannibal elves all up in!

Then again, you could do that for halflings instead and have cannibal halflings, which are always more amusing.

The master actually doesn't have the summon talent (Anymore. I think he did pre-necromancer class, iirc, and he still has the code for defining what would pop out, interestingly enough.). What he does have is a one-per-turn passive soul regeneration. You can check stuff like that in the specific zone npcs.lua files. Pretty much anything zone specific (bosses, particular uniques) is defined in the zone files, including zone-specific monsters and artifacts.

Pale Drake does, though, apparently. Can summon pairs of bone giants.

E: And yeah, higher level enemies == higher level drops. Nightmare (and possibly Insane. Dunno about madness.) does, indeed, generally entail better kit, from what I recall. I think I've actually heard some folks opine it's easier than normal (in some ways) because of it.

I do want to say, as a fellow from the states, that idea is mildly terrifying. There's a pretty incredible amount of corruption in the higher echelons of higher education around here, especially in regards to corporate/industry ties and universities. Individual academics are considerably less likely to be involved with such, but actual university representatives? Bloody hell, I wouldn't want them anywhere near the political process in most cases. Blatant corporate shills are often the best thing you can say about them.

Maybe... maybe it's better over in Europe? If so, chalk another mark down for "Reasons to paddle over".

@ Rob's undead summoning beyond soul limit thing: Several of the higher tier undead critters (Definitely the top vampire, ferex) have just a straight up summon talent -- not the necromancer's undead minion talent. It's a costless summon talent that summons more undead and has no limits beyond the cooldown. Also the summoned critters are full on critters. They don't have a duration, or can't be healed, or anything like that. It's pretty much explicitly spawning more critters on the map.

I still remember one high peak run a while back that I ended up with a level with over a dozen vampire lords on it, all aggro'd. It took... several hours to clear out. Killed either one or two dozen eternal bone giants. Several hundred miscellaneous undead. Dozens of Gs, who knows how many of them dreadmasters. It got a little silly. Especially since the top tier vamps, at least, can summon the next tier down (hell, possibly just more of themselves), which can also summon. I forget what the old *band term for that is, heh, but the whole summoners-summoning-summoners thing is always great for a tremendous cluster of a level.

We're probably screwing around with something in south and/or central america, too, for what that's worth. Don't recall if I've actually heard anything about it, but that's been a pretty safe assumption to make for a few decades now.

Well they define "anti-social" as "being annoying to any person", a bit like with the ASBOs only going even further.
Even better, it's not just being annoying to any person, it's committing an act that's capable of being annoying to any person. Or anything threatening to cause such an act.

Which is, like. Breathing? You could probably have an injunction filed 'gainst you for that. Being alive at all. Being dead. Being nonexistent, probably. S'a titch insane.
