Other Games / Re: Bay12 52 Weeks Challenge: Gamer Edition
« on: January 03, 2014, 11:08:04 pm »
... so what exactly would we be doing again? Play one game for a week, put it down, go to another? Play 52 games in a year (Could do that rather easily, especially if flash games count :P)? Actually complete 52 (or some other number. Twelve, 26, something) games in one year?

Mostly curious about how one would format such things. There's basically no way I could complete the challenge if it were only-one-game-per-week -- that would drive me up the gorram wall. Sounds nearly as bad as listening to only one genre of music a week straight, which would end with me contemplating killing something. Possibly myself. Hell, I actually did complete the 52 book thing, more or less, and I was usually reading a few things at the same time... no sticking-to-one-thing-until-finished silliness.

Especially if it also precluded checking out new stuff... new flash games, new free and/or indie stuff, etc. I would murder, I tell you. Murder. Now, only counting one per week... that'd be more doable. Or only checking off a list, but still able to play other stuff. Better.

Still... nattering aside, good luck to those who go for it. Sounds like something that might drive me nutters, but perhaps an admirable goal nonetheless.

My mind. My mind. It boggles. It boggles.

There is a 40+k word Liberal Crime Squad/Familiar of Zero crossover fanfic. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO THINK.

FAKE EDIT: Mother of Zeus it's actually on the forum, too. Mine brain hath gone tilt.

G'night folks, I'm out!

Yeah, I'm roughly 80% certain the stuff that's passively invisible (i.e., not using a talent. Mostly the Gs, iirc.) get no penalties for it. Consider them to have a sort of built-in super-invisibility, I guess.

Check just under the durasteel furniture, iirc. It's kinda' easy to miss.

Not just the individual stuff, Sheb. Also the stuff that hits providers and whatnot. Though yeah, as is fairly usual with this sort of stuff in the states, the penalties and fees probably won't be enough to cause compliance in the beginning. It'll probably take some time before th'gov actually starts using an appropriately sized stick.

... though I'd disagree on that fine being measly. If I didn't have family covering mine, I'd be hunting down subsidies and whatnot to avoid that penalty. Need to be anyway 'cause what I do have is kinda' shitty. 95$ USD is a month worth of food or gas -- more than, really. S'pretty significant for someone in my general situation.

Probably pretty minor for the general sort of folk that'd be tanking it, but...

I'unno Ogdi, some of those community or succession forts...

Though I guess that's less PvP than it is a communal effort to one-up the previous fellow's buggering...

So anyway, I'm actually out of the loop on American politics at this point, but supposedly Obamacare is now a thing, judging by the bomb shelter my boss built in his office.  Anything I should know about it at this point?
Preeetty sure it still has something like 2-3 months before everything really kicks in. Which is to say it's something like february or march that they start fining and laying tax penalties for noncompliance. Ask again come, like, september or something. Maybe next year. Just make sure you've got some sort of health insurance, in order to avoid penalties. Don't think they're particularly picky, as I recall, but there's credits and whatnot for lower income folks, so... yeah.

Then let us pray it has constipation instead of the other option.

Today's WTF: Decided to throw up most of the steam inventory's card thingies on the market, because. Well, because. I ascribe no value whatsoever to them, so... why not?

... by the time I had finished putting all of them (less than three dozen) on the market, I had received over a dollar in steam credit. By the time I finished typing this message, almost two. There are days which the human mind is a thing entirely incomprehensible to me.

Farportals are a risk. It's basically as simple as that. I do them when I'm performing particularly well with that character or I don't mind losing it. Of course, since I usually don't mind losing characters, I do them pretty often, ha. Occasionally I'll do them when I'm somewhere in between those two extremes and about to hit a particularly nasty area of the game (before dreadfell ambush, etc.) on the off chance I'll both survive and luck into one of those ridiculous random artifacts that occasionally crop up.

But again, farportals are a risk. Everything that can bite you in the hindquarters with normal dungeons can do so in the farportal twice over. Those bosses are not limited in chassis and always have at least two classes, which is to say you're rolling the RNG that it's not going to generate something like a dream horror oozemancer/something equally vicious. At least the reaver/AB loop got closed, but there's still plenty of combos that can just about flat delete you.

Though things are a lot nicer nowadays. We're no longer at the stage that "immobile" jellies will chase you across the map (with a 0 cd dimension step, ferex) and grind you into paste. Improvement!

All in all, though, I'd recommend doing a lot of them before settling in to a standard farportal usage pattern. Find one's own comfort zone, et al.

I see no advantage to the optic mice. Track balls only need cleaning out once every so often, and they don't decide to send the cursor careening off into the corner of the screen for no reason.
My head is a mousepad. So are my legs. So is close to any surface whatsoever. If I want to use the ceiling as a mousepad -- if it's in reach, I can. Basically none of those would work with older mice. And it's all smooth. Little to no effort, as opposed to ball mice. I remember ball mice. Whatever they're actually called. They are the devil.

Though I guess it was track balls instead of the ball mice whatever being mentioned. Eh.
