Yeah... at least for me, melee slayers are very, hrm. Uncomplicated? You don't have many moving parts. There's the mobility stuff, aura spikes (honestly, I generally don't spike my shields. I should, but I usually don't.), and whatever activatables (inscriptions, artifacts, etc.) you've got on hand. The rest of it's just loading down with kit and slamming your face into stuff until it dies. I usually even remove the initial point in the voracity tree, especially now that resting restores psi.

Tri-wield (maybe sword and board -- either of them give better raw stats than dual 2-hand, if maybe less immediate damage) with as much on-melee stuff as I can manage is usually pretty standard. Probably fungus, if I don't get something really sexy in terms of arcane escort missions.

After that, it's mostly just hoping I find the right items (rush boots, especially, but a good movement infusion goes a long way) to cruise into the east with. I find they have a pretty easy time with the early to late-mid game (up until the east, basically), after which things get a little more rough (but you've got stuff like antimagic and finer energy manipulation to tank and kit yourself to the nines, which helps smooth things out.). Still, I like 'em when I want to turn off my head and walk into things, heh.

Re: WB as slayer... have your auras up (after the initial sustain strip, of course. Taunt it with augmentation or sumthin'), rush (via boots) or jump into its face (if possible), nail it in the craw with a (4-5/5) kinspike, preferably into one of those little wall things so you don't have to chase it. Usually doesn't take more than that, you should be putting out a lot of melee damage. Maybe do tri-wield with a nice dagger for the fight for some extra stabby, if you're not already. Insidious poison or other useful enchant (purging, whatever) might not hurt, too. Mostly you just rush the bugger down, you should have more bump damage throughput than nearly everything.

To the best of my knowledge, and a quick google-search later, La Mulana has no spiders :]
Act... actually. Well, not exactly spiders, per se, but spider chimera... things. In the very first part of the dungeon whatsit, heading off toward the temple of the sun or the giant joint. Lion heads and front body, spider end bodies. It's not exactly detailed, and they don't act like spiders or anything, and I guess it could be ants or something? I'unno. But I've been thinking of 'em as spider lions. But yeah, no webs, no jumping, I think only six limbs. Tiru, you should be fine.

I will say, though, a narrative game where the protagonist is a spider with arachnophobia would be... interesting? How do you function when you're fundamentally terrified of yourself? Reflective surface avoidance as a mechanic?

E: Though between this and the Terraria thread, I'm starting to wonder if every time Tiru asks "Is there spiders?" I'm going to be there going, "Sorry, Tiru. Yes." It's not intentional ;_;

Higher than I'd like. That 50% on LLtQ would... I'd drop a fiver on that. Find out in a few hours, anyway.

Now now, it's not that christmas music sucks, it's that the idiots running radio/TV stations and the bastards running marketing seem unable to deviate from the norm in any meaningful or lasting way, so you hear the same things over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over (ad rageam*) again.

Which, for some of us, is like being in a little circle of hell. I need variation in my music or I start muting and/or breaking things and/or going (more) batshit insane, personally.

Bluh bluh. Something like half of those would have suited me better as pick-multiple, because I use several of the words interchangeably (like semi, which can also be a semi, 18 (or 16) wheeler, semi-truck, and probably a couple other things I'm forgetting, but would use comfortably in conversation depending on either what other folks are using at the moment or whimsy), and then there were a few I had to answer "other" because they didn't have the word used :-\

... that said, yeah, it was about right, though I'm at least a couple hundred miles from any of the cities it mentioned.

Likely a bit late at this point, but if it's a friend, honesty is probably the best policy.

On the other hand, that is most definitely one of those stereotypical "no-good-answer" questions people talk about. Face, you know your friend better than us, so you know whether the appropriate response is to answer honestly (if they're not indulging in such shenanigans) or screech loudly, spin three times in place, and run screaming out of the building (the appropriate response if they are, situation allowing).

I, uh. I'm not entirely sure if he'd accept, or if it's the metaphorical best of things to offer to an active game developer, or... whatever. But I'll go ahead and nominate Toady One, if that's alright. It feels appropriate, heh.

I'm personally going to be farming the metal-log trees and crystal trees. Other trees are simple enough to come by.
Do these give special wood types?
Dunno about the metal ones (if it's the ones I'm thinking of, then no, they don't), but the crystal ones drop crystal instead of wood. There's also cactus trees and rainbow wood trees that I've personally seen, and apparently there's plant fiber ones as well. Not counting the eyeball trees, which just drop extra eyeballs.

The best wood, naturally, is rainbow wood. Actually reminds me the wipe nuked the 2k or so unrefined logs I had sitting in my ship. Still have several hundred blocks (not logs) in my inventory, but m'gonna' have to go find more. I'm not sure there's a more amusing block type than ~Rainbow~ to use to lock down those giant mobs. Also kinda' hilarious to use to cover over Apex trap junk, as well. Eat rainbow, poison pools! Hahahahahaha!

Fairly sure there's some kind of important thematic point to 'em I've either never noticed or bothered to find out. Something about the repeated usage working as an anchor, of sorts, to the show, among other things. Plus some works play with the transformation sequence a bit... interruptions, environment having influence, stuff like that. Then there's, frankly, budgeting issues. Stock footage in one place frees up some artist salaries for fancy stuff elsewhere, potentially.

I mostly chalk magical girl transformation sequences (and a number of others... G-Gundam, anyone?) up to fanservice, though. I'd say a good majority of them are as much peep show as light show, after all. S'probably a somewhat uncharitable generalization, t'be fair, but not too much of one.

What's not to love about the thought of a barely pubescent little girl flipping out and blowing everything in a ten mile radius into their composite atoms? It's like the Monty Python killer bunny mixed with a black rabite, poured into a probably indecent dress and given a transformation sequence.
