... it's close enough to up it doesn't really matter beyond that, in my experience.

... I know basically none of that stuff. Still pretty good at knowing the time based on sun position. Sometimes just level of illumination. You get a feel for it when you're in the same area for a while, without having to actually explicitly know... any of that, really.

Definitely don't need to know which direction is south, though. Just which way the sun's moving (this is easy to tell without knowing which cardinal direction is which, so long as your short term memory isn't incredibly horrendous.), and maybe a rough idea of when dawn/nightfall is. That's... about all. Noon is up. The rest isn't much trouble. S'not much more complicated than knowing AM/PM, really.

Guess those 24 hour heathens have it easy, I'unno.

Some of us get by just fine looking up, thank you very much.

... I haven't worn a watch longer than a day, like. Ever.

S'almost a bit of a shame, really. I've got a couple rather nice pocket watches squirreled away somewhere... not where I'm living right now, but accessible enough. Wrist based ones just feel funky :-\

... easiest trick. Leave them in pocket. If done with pocket bearing object for that day, transfer to tomorrow's pocket bearing object. Then, if you forget your keys, you have also forgotten your pants/dress/shirt/wallet/purse/etc. Which is less likely to happen.

Similarly, it would mean that you were too lazy to be wearing something with pockets and if that's true... I'm sorry. There's no helping you, and you deserve to lounge on the front porch equivalent until help comes. No mercy for the pocketless.

... bringing key is good, yes. Never leave place of residence without a way back in.* Key is generally least painful way of doing that. Also least likely to get neighbors to call cops on you, or cause damage to your locks.

*I honestly cannot comprehend how many people do that, so very regularly. It's just... why? It takes seconds to slip key into pocket. So very little effort, potentially saving so very much effort ;_;

Oh yeah... I'd definitely say go with the main campaign. I remember it being fairly neat even if I never actually got past, like, the first mission-thingy

... sounds kinda' like anime addventure (which I'll refrain from linking, since its content often violates forum ToS), though I guess that's not quite the same. There's probably similar stuff out there.

General Discussion / Re: Bay12 Yellowstone Volcano-watch

I'll just... sit here and hope no actual eruption happens. In, like, my lifetime or something. S'fairly unlikely, I think, but still...

Last I checked yellowstone going off would be... bad. As in world economic collapse bad, since the states would be pretty much flat fucked and most everything would come tumbling down with it. As a sort of base minimum.

... maybe my memory's shoddy on that one?

Use a few tones as an alt/shift/ctrl equivalent? You'd cut down the base symbols but add in a multiplier.

Removing my beloved spiders; why would you do this horror?
because they hate you and want you to fly

E: Because it apparently wasn't clear enough who that was directed to.

Get a few rat killing pets and infest the house the spiders, of course.

Well, making voting mandatory ensures that the local government must provide everyone with the ability to vote, otherwise, they're breaking their own laws.
Yeah, technically they've got the ability to vote right now... usually, anyway. It's just, y'know, on a freaking tuesday. Many aren't able until work lets out and the logistic and psychological issues with that should be bloody obvious. It's also not an actual holiday bloody anywhere, insofar as I could tell. It's a civic holiday in a handful of states* -- that is, they have to give workers time off, with pay, to go vote -- but that's the extent of it. Distance voting of varying sorts is... fairly painless, somewhat, sometimes, but it's still a fair pain in the ass and there's eternal effort to limit voter access to it. Mandatory voting would be less attractive if the voting process as-is wasn't quite so, well. Vote blocking. Really is a kinda' fucked up situation, t'be honest. One of those, "Who the hell thought this was a good idea" things.

*I didn't even know this was a thing until I checked wikipedia. It's not where I'm at.

Other Games / Re: Its called "AI War: Fleet Command"
« on: September 29, 2013, 07:28:06 am »
Mm... certain AI attacks (counterattack posts, ferex) can come from the edge of your systems, and insofar as I can remember don't need warp point access to a system to show up. Those should be very obvious when they're happening, though. Other than that, everything does have to come through warp points, but some units (teleporters, certain cloaked junk) is much better at it than others and can end up in odd places, from time to time.

There's also... some way or another to do something very similar to formations, but I think you have to, like, custom build them or something along those lines. I know there's some way to do it, I've just never used it. Trawl through the command list, see what you can see. Should be something in there. E: Hold j, right click. Things will move in relation to the other stuff you've selected. Formation move.

21059
... honestly, I'd half wager that just changing the damned voting day would do a lot to help out with turnout.

One: You probably don't. Not really.

Two: I can almost flat guarantee you (though there is no bloody chance I'm actually checking) that the internet has provided just that for you. It's just, y'know. Probably 34'd.
