General Discussion / Re: Things that made you sad today thread.

Ha ha ha. Come to the states, CP.

But yeah. Tired, so go to sleep. Which... makes me tired, and want to go back to sleep. So I do ('cause it's also like, four something in the morning and I didn't sleep 'till like midnight) and...

... now I'm tired, and want to go back to goddamn sleep. Sleep is not supposed to cause an energy recursion, damnit :-\

Damned hateful physiology.

General Discussion / Re: The Dream Thread
« on: July 28, 2013, 03:10:38 am »
Guess I should stop hitting the WTF thread with these things eventually, so...

Police action on a decrepit church (well, underneath it, anyway) involving capture of hostiles and weird forcefields everywhere, but also the capture/rescue of kittens and, initially, the destruction of cockroaches.

However, once it was noticed that the cockroaches were capable (when thrown with some force) of passing through the forcefields, the dream transitioned into a cockroach capturing dream. It ended with several strange looking cockroaches (some of them, which were trying to lead the others to safety, capable of human speech) trapped under a small plastic bucket, with a few stragglers outside of it being eaten/killed by the mentioned kittens.

What is Zeus's name just happened in my brain?

... almost makes me wonder if there's not room for some kind of p2p program that does what things like facebook do, just on an ad-hoc sort of level. Kinda' like an IRC room or whatev's, just maintaining them with something along the lines of what torrents do and with facebook-style functionality. Makes me wish I could code, ha. Might be an interesting experiment.

... right handed people don't?

Just say you're dressed as an old person in a halloween costume, and give voluminous praise to the (nonexistent*) friend who made the suit for you. Why, if they can't even see the seams or the fact you're walking on platform shoes/silts, it's a pretty damn impressive costume, innit?

*Alternately, Good Ol' Time.

Heh. Y'd have no way of knowing, but th'courts in the area I'm in have actually ruled against road safety cameras more than once. Forget the reasoning they've been using, though. E: Think it was related to me as something along the lines of there needing to be cops with eyes on the scene (even if remotely) for it to be legal. So automated cameras were a no-go. Memory's fuzzy as hell and this was a bit back, though. Could have changed, could be misremembering, etc., so forth, so on.

Regardless, it's more like a live google street view that looks in your windows, since it covers non-public facing data as well. M'relatively certain that if you actually handed something like that to the cops in the states, right now (and folks actually found out, of course ::)), it'd be a pretty serious fourth amendment violation. For what that's worth, anyway, though I vaguely remember them getting a bit better about forth amendment violations, last time I checked. Personally still consider the amendment to be non-existent these days, but eh.

But for whatever reason, folks seem inclined to treat secure, non-public facing, websites or website activities as different from a private business place or personal residence. Conceptually, I'd consider 'em pretty similar, m'self. E-mails, private messages, stuff that's been turned off from public access... stuff like that I'd call off the street, so to speak, and they're not being considered as such.

Gwarble. Couldn't actually make it t'day, I don't think. Badly need a nap, right now, amongst other things. Bloody headache :-\

*crosses arms* No.

... seriously though, the person in question has only written two stories, and is like the first hit on "myetel mass effect". Your ISP is paying me by the extra bandwidth I get you to waste!*Get crackin'.* This is a lie.

Also I've already forgotten and the head pain that has been plaguing me since like tuesday is somewhat distracting.

I haven't read any of it, so... no. Dunno about content, or if it'd be safe re: forum guidelines to link. S'written by a critter titlin' themselves Myetel, though, which should be enough to find it.

Sooo... any chance of anything happening this weekend?

Industrialization raises cost of kids (necessary training to operate within, etc.) --> Kids cost more to raise --> People have less kids. As societies industrialize and go post-industrial, population growth drops. S'been a hugely blatant pattern.

E: Scout ninja includes part of the etc., heh.

21628
... breeding before, breeding now, and will be breeding in the future. Homosexuality doesn't necessarily stop the urge to have and raise kids, and regardless, it's not a sufficient portion of the population to meaningfully impact the growth rate. There is literally absolutely zero legitimate population concern related to the issue of homosexuality. None, at all. Population growth just doesn't work that way.

You want an actual target for declining population growth, look to industrialization and gender equality. Those are more or less the two big causes.

21629
There's... still absolutely no reason to worry. It's not enough of the population to make a difference, even if it were (which it isn't) a completely noncontributing portion of it, population wise. Seriously, genuinely justified concern for underpopulation died entirely... a long time ago. Especially on a species level. Nowadays, major powers wise, body count just doesn't really matter to a significant degree. S'all about material and methodology, not manpower.

Yeah... that came up on the forum a while back, with a minor(? Memory's fuzzy.) connection to Monsanto the Legitimately Evil. As for the scale of fucked, consensus at the last discussion was "utterly", because some ridiculous proportion of the biosphere relies on bees for propagation. As bees go, so does the living ecosystem, apparently. So we've got good odds at seeing a near total ecological meltdown, fairly soon. One more for the pile, I guess.
