General Discussion / Re: Calm and Cool Progressive Discussion Thread

... days and days I end up wondering if shit like that shouldn't be a capital crime, or at least a life sentence. We put people to death for harming a handful of people, but when filth like that collaborate and fuck over thousands, millions of people, they get off with a proverbial slap on the wrist.

Groups like that shouldn't be fined a fraction of their net worth, the entire bloody thing should be liquidated and those responsible have their assets seized, be forced into community service for the rest of their lives, and never allowed to experience wealth greater than minimum wage again. Never going to happen but goddamn if it wouldn't be a better reaction than the farcical shit being shoved down our throats :-\

Of course, there seems to be buggerall our side of the equation can do about it. S'as depressing as it is damned enraging.

Almost sounds like it might be the system backup or whatever that is acting up... vaguely remember something similar happening to me a bit back. Being as competent as I am with such things (relatively little), I'd probably suggest just going through your services and disabling them one by one until you hit whatever's causing it (or don't, in which case you've strongly pared down what could be the source of the issue.). Might at least help identify what isn't the problem.

Which is sometimes half the battle. Well, probably more like a quarter or a fifth, since knowing is half yo joe and knowing what isn't the problem would probably be a component of that.

... any luck figuring out which process (or processes, I suppose) is doing the work of it? I know process explorer, at the least, will track read/write pretty easily. Looks like standard task manager does it alright, too, though obviously not as elegantly :P

Wait... crap. Is that supposed to be a bad thing? I guess it's more the "been holding tongue" part...?

Most of the lesbians I've met have been pretty attractive, honestly. Least not below the standardized curve of human appearance re: personal aesthetic preference. I've never quite grokked how that particular line of criticism is supposed to work, I guess. S'more a "you're aligned with something I disprove of" than "X actually exhibits negative traits salient to the attributes being addressed", perhaps? Tends to leave me going, "Wait, shit. Am I supposed to punch you or thank you for that?"

Maybe I just need some sleep, dunno.

packing packing packing why is updating taking over an hour not counting download time packing packing packing

Looking forward to playing again, but whoever decided this was a good way of going about patching a program needs to be hit with a bat (maybe one of the larger species, hum.) a few times. Then they can go a few rounds with whatever nitwit decided it was a good idea not to have the fully updated thing be the base download.

E: Also, whoever made the call for the little update box to sit in the middle of your screen, on top of everything, and be apparently impossible to minimize should perhaps be fired for incompetence. Either that or never allowed near any UI design decisions ever again.

E2: Oh hey, it can minimize, it just apparently has to be done through the task manager (or, well, process explorer in my case.). whywouldyoudothis

Should have been more clear: For me. I've yet to find an MMO-styled anything I can actually play more than a couple weeks (at absolute maximum) before getting so magnificently bored with it I can't bring myself to touch it for several months. Stuff gets same-y, end up having to put it down for a while so I can forget that.

Mind you, I do the same thing with pretty much all games, but MMO-styled stuff has a much longer cycle period than most things. Variety, spice of life, hundreds of other things I could be playing instead, etc., etc. Most games stop being fun if I'm playing it several times a week for weeks on end, yeah.

Didn't help that SDGO doesn't entirely fit my tastes for a robot-thingy :P Too much melee and pansy bots, Frumple needs dakka and proper dakka providers! Less beam swords and puny lasers, more giant honking space cannons, bullet spam, and M3*. More Zaku less Gundam, etc., etc.

YOU'RE ONLY GOING TO ABANDON ME AGAIN ANYWAY. ;_;
Yeah, totes am. Fair warning, ha.

SDGO's good for a once-or-twice a year short splurge, but not much else :P

Kinda' looks like I'm going to have to make a new account, though... forgot everything about the account I had except the ID and email I was using for it. Threw a ticket at the support system, but... eh.

General Discussion / Re: Things that made you go "WTF?" today o_O

S'somewhat wtf, somewhat sad, but... goddamn. Laziest thing I've done in a long bloody time.

House owners' are spending the night, so have to give up the bed. Bed's bedding honestly needs washing, but circumstances made that somewhat unwise for earlier today, and there's not really time to do fix it before they get here.

So. So I turned the bedding 180 degrees. So the part I'd been sitting on for a while now is at the foot of the bed.

Seriously. You can win the entire game by finding a human province or two and constantly pumping out the moderately armored spearmen and no-armor archers.
... maybe against someone who's asleep... or the AI, ha.

Or with gratuitous amounts of caster support and maybe a few SCs/thugs thrown in there, because without that it's bloody trivial to splat an indefinite number of basic indie recruits. At which point you're doing a lot more than spewing chaff and archers out of a few indie provinces...

You can win the entire game like that the same way you can win the entire game using nothing but your pretender. It's possible -- and if the enemy has no idea how to respond, not even difficult -- but incredibly easy to neuter. Dominions offers a bucketload of methods for dealing with single dimension strategies.

... you, uh. Have been drinking plenty of water, yes? And possibly ate something?

I'd like proper tactical combat. Please, make my dreams come true forever Dom4. I love you.
Few things would be nearly as capable of potentially killing the game for me in one go. Dominions is one of the few standouts still remaining of the Ogre Battle ethos to combat, and by the gods I want more of that. We don't have nearly enough.

Didn't Dominions 3 already have seasons with various effects? Though you didn't see the map change I'm pretty sure it affected the cold/hot scale and some events.

Hm. Far as I remember it was just the little 'season' symbol changing.
Appropriate heat scale shift (summer hot, winter cold), certain units are more powerful during certain seasons, and winter in particular was bad for health and aging -- old dudes were more likely to take age related injuries and/or die, maybe some disease related stuff. May be some other stuff... season specific events, junk like that. Somewhat subtle effects, but potentially rather big deals in certain scenarios.

Generic laws... where at? A cursory googling doesn't seem to be showing universal ones in the states, barring perhaps anti-voyeurism stuff, but there are specific ones that vary from state to state. State of things in the european countries seem to vary from place to place, too.

As with a lot of things of that nature, you're going to want to check the specific laws of the area you're intending to operate in, especially in regards to what you're intending to do. This is as true for recording people (especially without consent) as it is for concealed weapons carrying.

Hrg. I'll have to look into Memory Alpha again, then. Been twice, but other than making a couple dozen schematics (that I apparently can't use yet) all I got out of it was a few diplomacy XP quests (which I'm still not entirely clear what the point is beyond excusing some boring quests :P).

Then maybe selling, I'unno. Dumped like 120 or something anomalies into something the fleet was building. Probably rather do that than selling 'em if it comes up again... EC bank's doing well enough for what I've been doing so far.

*kicks the thread back awake*

So, like... what do we do with the fleet stuff?

And any kinda' general advice? I've muddled my way past level 40 in a few days, but other than following the episodes as they come and occasionally doing fleet PvE stuff I'm... not really sure what I'm doing. Besides pewpewing at stuff, anyway, which is surprisingly satisfying for how simple it is. And stuffing my inventory/bank full of anomaly crap (which I'm still not entirely sure what to do with >_>) and lockboxes. And... and... is there anyway to play as the little purple kobold looking things that was in that one bar with the arena fight?

Also the lizard dude in the DS9's op room is hilariously tall. My dude only comes up his crotch. Crouch, and m'head comes up to his knee.
