Well... huh. Double thanks, burningpet! I'm fairly sure most of th'folks in my steam list knows of you guys one way or another, but if such stuff comes up I'll mention it, heh. And yeah, most of my (incredibly limited, really) gaming funds go to indie stuff. They seem to be more likely to be relevant to my interests, yeah.

... though yeah, for 3, the most I can give you is >= :P

Grats folks! Cheers to Dark and BP for the prizes.

'Cause last time I checked all the (human, anyway) kaboom in the world wouldn't manage to be earth-shattering, mostly. Planet's a tough nut to crack.

... anyway, as always, it's entirely possible there's always been roughly the same frequency of industrial-and-otherwise accidents of similar scale... it's just that we're more aware of them nowadays. S'a lot of stuff like that.

It'd be interesting to see an actual breakdown of number-of-explosions-of-that-sort over the years, though... maybe they're increasing, maybe they're decreasing. Be neat to actually know, I think.

I couldn't entirely say, Leaf :P S'like I said, I haven't really touched the official fate/stay stuff... saw one of the movies, but that's been it. Though that was part of the maybes included in that post, heh. M'honestly a little iffy on it, but (some of) it might be close enough to what Vec's looking for to be usable. Definitely silly things like impossibility or undesirability isn't really stopping Shirou in holding his ideals, and he recognizes that (insofar as I'm aware, anyway) instead of just being ignorant of it.

But yeah, that's a theme/starting point on a lot of the better FSN fanfiction stuff I've read. Addressing that issue (or not) is part of the fun, so to speak. Sometimes it even ends well, which I've no clue if the official FSN media does or not.

Mm... I could spare a couple hours then, but not much more than that. Early appointment the next day, need sleep, etc. Earlier it starts, more time I could spare. Probably clear the rest of the week, though.

Yeah drought. I think Florida has been in a drought for the last 15 years or so. It's pretty pathetic to see swamps dry out into Texas-esque fields of scrubby dead shrubs. There were bouts out wildfires there too, but I think the municipalities there are more aggressive in putting out brush fires then they were before, so I can't think of any recently.
Nah... it's been off and on, not steady drought down here in Florida. Fairly sure it's been more on than off during the last couple decades, though :-\ But we've come out of drought conditions occasionally during that period, I do believe. This report's got a fairly concise look at drought history near the bottom of the pdf. S'a little outdated, but hits the early 2000s and '80s-'90s fairly well, from what I skimmed.

Not that drought conditions stops it from being as ridiculously humid as ever, o'course. Just means there's not as much rain.

Maybe some of the fate/stay night stuff? Especially some of the better fanfiction related to it*. Shirou (more or less the, or at least a, main character) definitely counts for "idealistic by choice in a (thoroughly) crapsack world" bit, depending a lil' on how he's written (though I guess it's a little more complicated than that but... close enough. Maybe.). I'd start with The Hill of Swords (written by gabriel blessing) and kind of work my way around.

*I... haven't actually played through the visual novels. At all. Or read any of the manga. So... no clue what they're like >_>

Foolish... or really running the numbers for it. What's a couple planets here and there in exchange for a massive boost to the rate of expansion? Especially if they've figured out a way to make particular (mostly useless) planets attractive to the effect. S'the 40k Warp argument all over again, really~

As to the first bit, I don't think Samus is the one calling the shots re: civilization wide energy sources :P

... s'actually some kind of multi-species group, if I remember the bits from the comics, but I don't recall how much things-not-human had in regards to influence. Phazon could have direct parallels to stuff like asbestos, though. Call it a rather short-term-focused-species thing, if you really wanted to.

I MEAN FOR FUCKS SAKE HOW DO YOU EVEN GET TO THE POINT WHERE YOUR CIVILIZATION IS POWERED BY
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
WITHOUT REALIZING IT
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Space Capitalism, MSH. Space Capitalism.

Also you're assuming that the actual powers that be don't realize it. Also plausible is that they just don't care. That'd be a very human thing to do, really...

Hmmm, we haven't had a lot of posts in here lately. Out of curiosity, who's still actually interested in a multiplayer game, rather than just available?
M'still pretty comfortably in the "If someone bothers hosting, I'll join up" zone. So long as I'm at home and don't have need-to-sleep issues, anyway. Have VotM, for what that's worth.

Christmas decorations sold in fucking June. This shit seriously needs to stop, damn it.

Airdrop, buddy. Proper evil empires do it with zeppelins.

Or maybe strap rockets on it, whatever.

Did you get the Sword of Truth books to burn?
Frumple would burn down houses first.

After looting their book-related contents, anyway. And maybe other valuables, I'unno. No point in burning good trinkets and vendor trash. Honestly I think I'd rather just take the house. Which would take some work, but what worth doing doesn't?

... that said, should I have? I vaguely remember th'series being fairly decent, but it has admittedly been quite a few years since I touched the guy's writing.

Yeah... like I mentioned, I totes wouldn't mind working, especially volunteer or part-time/reduced pay work, for the right causes. Find somewhere comfortably weather and social wise, stick to the kind of subdued entertainment consumption I've been doing for a while, and then find something genuinely useful/beneficial to do. I'd be set and damn happy -- double-bonus points if it's somewhere aesthetically pleasing, too. Honestly, it's money issues (with a sideline of figuring out how to convince people to let me, ha.) that are primarily stopping me from doing that good works bit now.

And I'd much rather be doing that than just bumming around. Bumming around is great, and while it never exactly gets old for me, it does kinda' get a little stale after a couple months. S'like... I like stale bread too, sometimes, but variety is better than stale bread forever. People like to work nearly as much as they like to play, so long as they're working towards something that has some sort of meaning for 'em, yeah. Fairly sure there's some degree of psych studies along those lines, if I'm not misremembering...

It's pretty rare that buying stuff makes me happy, but...

... just walked out of thrift shop with six bucks worth of books. Which amounted to twenty four paperbacks, roughly half Terry Goodkind (Sword of Truth), the other half Jim Butcher (Dresden Files). Yes, thank you. It's been quite a while since I got books. Made up for some lost time, and much of it is rather nice~

Also banana nut bread scented candle! Gonna' have to see if this joint has matches.
