General Discussion / Re: Your opinion on women in the military?

5'5" definitely is, though, at least for a male in the states. 5'10" is about average for males, over here. Dude's about as tall as the average stateside woman. Which would bely the whole "small soldiers bad" thing (which is just kinda' silly, really, especially looking back into history or at certain other nations today).

Doobedoo, checking the RSS feeds, popping in on a site... ads. Ad. This ad. I look up.

"Life is short. Have an affair." is the tag line.

what

Seriously? I guess I understand that infidelity has its attraction, but someone out there has apparently decided to make a market out of it and, and...
... just and, I suppose. Something something publicly accessible website something presumably-illicit action something stupid stop

What a way to start the day.

A red bottle with HP marked on it... Ok well that puts RPGs into a new light.
Grind up a printer, slather it in hot sauce, and stick it in a bottle.

Congratulations! You've created a health potion! It's so horrible and deadly it tricks your HP into going so far negative the integer overflows and flips back into the positive. Magical healing, ladies and gentlemen, for when your wounds are so horrible you have to violently violate the rules of reality to fix your malfunction.

I thought I couldn't scroll, but then I found out that the edges of my touchpad are a scroll function. It took me almost three years to discover this, and I still don't use it often.
Often or... at all. I'm pretty sure I've mostly disabled the feature on this computer. Not sure if it can actually be turned off on this one (short of turning off the touchpad entirely), but you can definitely set it to be a minuscule strip of the touchpad that's basically impossible to activate. Which is good enough for me.

Quite frankly, if I can reach the touchpad I can probably reach the spacebar (which generally does page down), the arrow keys, or just the page down on the numpad. All of the which mostly does the same thing... and without having to screw with a bloody touchpad to any extent beyond the hated necessity.

Yeah, one source. Doesn't change that there's still 300+ flagships faffing about the universe every time a exo-gal wave comes in. I mean, don't get me wrong, a full cap of spire ships can do a lot to flatten one group of those... but not both (splitting them up just gets both groups worn down faster.), and even with just one flagshipball they'll be getting worn down.

I had one system with... basically everything that ~24 systems worth of knowledge and fabricators (and golems, can't forget the golems) provided in it (plus a good dozen or so varying fleetship constructors on repeat >_>), and another with a full shipcap (~100 or so, total) of FS ships... and they were both getting worn down and/or blown through (also many dozens of dyson gatlings and ~50 roaming enclaves... things were getting silly <_<). 150+ flagships is a shitload of HP, and unlike a comparative HP ball of less individual HP units (say, most fleetships), they don't ablate nearly as well (so you're dealing with full damage for much longer and they're much more likely to get individuals through the gauntlet.).

... mostly, though, it's just kinda' silly. Starships and guardians aren't things you're supposed to be seeing in groups of hundreds :-\ Certainly not on a -100% handcap diff 5 AI* and an AIP that's not, like, approaching the thousands (I mean, I've been in a 7 diff game with an AIP >2k, and they still weren't throwing groups like that at us. 2k+ individual waves, sure, but not a fleetship cap worth of starships.). I shudder to think what happens on a more normal difficulty setting. Which would be why I'd recommend not touching FS (/anything involving exo-gal waves) until the next patch :P

*I wanted to see the end of the FS campaign... and it not take forever.

22206
We, uh. We might want to hold off on any maps with fallen spire enabled until the next patch. Or... anything that can trigger exo-galactic waves, really.

I may have just looked into a system that had 181 AI flagships in it. 170 of them mk 1.

Though that's after a handful had been blown up. It is... somewhat excessive. I'm not entirely sure how I'm going to deal with 1.7+ billion HP worth of flagship, hoo. Only 5.1+ million damage per second, though!

For the flagships. That's ignoring all the other stuff. Also, there's another ball about the same size coming from a different system. Whee!

E: On second thought (a few minutes later) it turns out that while 2-300 flagships breathing down your neck is uncomfortable, it is not much in the face of several fully built spire cities and a shitload of everything.

E2: Mein gott that is a lot of spire starships.

Kai, if you're going off "Non-existance is better than a little familial tension?", then you can't say no to having a kid every 9 months.

Because otherwise, all those kids would suffer non-existence! D:
Thinking too small/too luddite. Sperm/egg harvesting and surrogate birth mothers. One every month, at minimum. More if you managed to split sperm samples over several eggs (though at that point, you'd probably have to be getting quite a few egg donors outside your partner or indulging in some serious polygamy) or induce twins/triplets/etc.

Honestly, going down that path you'd eventually end up having to harvest sperm on a daily+ basis (plenty just die off naturally, iirc. Can't have that! Think of the potential babies!), find some way to artificially create eggs (only way to keep up with sperm production), and construct an iron womb facility the size of Australia and growing exponentially on a daily basis. Earth couldn't withstand the strain for very long, but hey, a short life of starvation is better than non-existence! Whee!

This seems like it should go in the Forum Games section. Nevertheless...

"There is...another...*last name here*..."
Heh. If you're going to into serious asshole mode...

"Listen... listen! <Insert dead loved one(s)> is(are) still alive. They're hiding in <insert shithole on different contenent>. Tell them... tell them I'm sorry."

Fine tuned way more than a "bit", really. The laws related to statutory are pretty shitty in a lot of places in the states. Sometimes they work as intended, other times they completely ruin someone's life for no damn good reason. Usually see at least a couple cases a year where you've got what's by all indications a fairly stable and healthy relationship, and one of the participants ends up thrown in jail/on the sex offender's list for the rest of their life because they're a few years off from their partner and someone's parent threw a hissyfit.

And especially in the case of ending up on that list, in the states... stick a goddamn fork in you, you're done, that's it, you're screwed more or less permanently. Consenting, healthy relationship? No one being hurt? Everyone whose actual business it is, content? Doesn't bloody matter. End up on that list and you can kiss job prospects and a social life more or less goodbye. Doesn't matter why. Doesn't matter how long ago it was. Y'just flat buggered. A non-crime that bloody close to completely ruins you. S'damned sick, is what it is :-\

Conceptually, though... still pretty ham handed, really. Romeo and Juliet laws help a little in that regard, but... sometimes not enough. Think th'board's actually prodded this line of discussion a couple times, hrm.

There's always the easy one. Just flash 'em a wicked grin and a wink, and go out laughing.

They'll know you know. They won't know what you know, but they'll know you know.

...Cheese on popcorn?
I don't actually like, uh. Any other kind of popcorn. All that much, anyway. Buttered, unbuttered, caramel, varying other sorts... reaction ranges from eh to bleh. Cheese popcorn, though... yummy. Powered cheese (or, I guess, powered cheese flavoring of some sort... whatever.) or melted cheese, I don't really care. All is good.

Wait, what are cheese puffs?
These things.

I guess so. I've never had a batch that actually tasted like popcorn, though. Cheese puffs and cheese popcorn have always been distinct tastes, in my experience.

Until now.

... I am eating cheese puffs.

They taste like cheese popcorn.

I'm not quite sure what's going on here.

There's that thing in the first post... from what I've been seeing, it's actually more split roughly even between europe and the states, so far.

As for each round, well, as long as people want to keep playing :P

I've had a couple last only an hour or two, a couple stretch on for 8+ hours. Depends on who's playing and what time constraints they're under. It's pretty easy to continue a game later (well, insofar as the game goes. Actually getting all the same players back in the same game...), so it generally isn't that big of a deal if folks can only throw in an hour here or there or whatev'.

Re: Steam, there's a steam group up for it. Should be a link somewhere earlier in the thread.

NEVER going to Australia, NEVER going to the tropics, TOO many kill-y animals and AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I hear yeh, brethren. All those bloody humans mucking up the joint. You'd think those multitudes of slightly less dangerous critters would keep the numbers down, but... nope. Hard to avoid the killy things nowadays.
