Oh god, it's like a fucking sandworm...

Never again will I be able to feel as safe on this planet as I did before clicking that spoiler...
Two things: One: Aquaworm more than sandworm. Lives on the seabed, between 10-40 metres. Don't go sticking your head into sea floor muck and you'd probably be fine regardless.

Two:
Quote
that these worms can grow to sizes of nearly 3 metres (9.8 ft) in some cases (although most observations point to a much lower average length of 1 metre (3 ft 3 in)) and an average of 25 millimetres (0.98 in) in diameter.
They're kinda' long, but not really all that big. If that ratio of diameter to length is accurate (average vs. average), you'd be looking at something like a 36/1 length-to-diameter ratio. That ten foot long one would only be about three inches wide.

Or, to put it in a decent comparison, pointy/snappy bits on the front or not these things are still smaller than anacondas/pythons. And the latter two are on land and have a noted (if sporadic) history of killing people. These things mostly kill fish, big whoop.

You want to fear oversized phallic critters, you'll want to be hat tipping snakes, first, and worrying about bobbit worms when they start roaming the dry lands and eating children.

Probably won't be able to join that one, if I'm getting the timing right. Minor chance I might be able to drop in if the game's still going after a couple hours, though.

Y'know, Sirus, I never really thought of you as a pigtails kinda' fellow.

But, well. Now I do. Also apparently a good enough crossdresser to fool a time traveling in-law. Unless it was a joke, I guess.

On the other hand, it does bode well for the future. They've become more accepting! Or I guess it might just be whatever family you marry in to, who knows. The real question to me is whether you hooked up with her daughter or her son. Might mean the outlook on same-sex unions is a bit more certain! Wherever you end up settling down in, anyway.

Future still uncertain. Someone needs to build a better eight ball.

... exaggerating more than a little there, Neo. None of the bosses in Terraria were "I walk into you" with nothing else going on (none of them even walked, iirc, unless you count the invasions.), and only a particular subset of the enemies (Melee variations -- zombies, skeletons, possessed armors, werewolves... guess some of the goblins/snowmen would count there, too.) were like that without any notable variation (slimes jumped around, bats flew, chaos elementals did their little teleport thing, etc.). A majority was trying to collide with you to do damage, yes, but that kinda' describes the attack method of probably >75% of enemies in the platforming genre as a whole. With everything else, there was by and large as much variation in enemy attack and movement pattern as, well, many of the greats in the past. Most of the marios, just as an example, especially SNES era backwards. And seeing the edit... yeah, megaman, too. Most things either shot at you or tried to slam into you. Terraria kinda' covered that, too. MMX, at least, had a greater degree of bullet pattern variation, sure, but... not terribly much beyond that, in comparison, at least for normal stage enemies. Bosses were somewhat more involved, but to a large extent that was due to having a set arena. With that latter case in relation to Starbound... we'll see. They definitely seem more willing to use set pieces alongside and to enhance the procedural stuff (which, hey, roguelike ethos. I'm down with vaults.), which might leave room for some more environmentally involved enemies. There's been absolutely no suggestion there will be, though.

Terraria definitely could have been spruced up with some extra attack/bullet patterns and probably some more interesting movement patterns (wall crawling/bouncing, etc. I'm reminded of sting chameleon. Should steal that, heh.), but it honestly wasn't too far out of line with a great deal of the platforming genre, and pretty fancy in some places (wall fight and most of the hard mode bosses, ferex.). I've played many good platformers and a fair chunk of pretty terrible ones, and t'me T's platforming aspect was, well, better than many, if not most. Solid. Improvable (it's certainly leaning toward the simplistic side, but hell, it's more complex in that arena than, say, SMB1, which is pretty darn impressive for what was mostly a one man project.), definitely (what isn't?), but solid.

As for Starbound, we can be relatively certain that there'll be more movement types and attack patterns than T had, governed strongly by the procedural systems in place (though barring the set critters, whatever those end up being). I'm currently guessing we're going to see something along the lines of what (to use a relatively recent example I'm aware of) Magicmaker does with its bosses, where varying components of the critters definite how they act, drawing from a bit of a pool and quite possibly on the guns bullet/firing style patterns. We don't really know yet (unless a recent stream was particularly illuminating), though, so far as I'm aware. I've personally noticed a couple of attack patterns (ramming, short-ranged thrust) and one movement style (walking with a little jumping), which is pretty limited but noted as one of the things they're working on and intending to improve before release. We'll have to wait and see, yeah.

this is not karate though but its a japanese art i can say that much.
I'm not sure of the original wording, but it translates roughly as "Spinning Death Hump". It is both the most painful and wonderful way to die.

Indeed, a distinctly Japanese art.

Need a decent DEX score, and some points in Acrobatics probably help as well.
Well, for that particular skill check, yeah, plus a fairly decent strength score (you need some muscle to keep something like that steady.). Base initiation doesn't take as much, fortunately.

Last I checked they call it "physics", Jop. It is pretty incredible as human wizardry goes, but still has a ways to go before we master it.

Not really an asian sorcery, though. More a universal school. No subrace requirements to take the feats required to qualify, just a base int score and some knowledge ranks.

The real trick to that picture is the truth that the kid in the background is a witch. Through that child's ministrations has New Guy learned the Truth.

There's... I'unno, I've seen bits and pieces of the answer to that in psych/soci-ological stuff. Can't really remember any of it at th'mo. Something about self-image, maybe? If it's someone else's fault, then it's not yours... even if somewhere deep you feel a degree of responsibility or sympathy. Way to avoid empathizing with the outgroup or something, dunno. Study's already got the phenomena more or less pinned down, I think. E:If not how to comfortably prevent it, yet. Mostly I just make sure I don't indulge in that particular bit of pettiness/ignorance.

Minor personal sad, cooking attempt turned out pretty lackluster. Concept is fine, ingredients and methodology were lacking. Still edible and decent enough, just... kinda' bland, and too onion-y. Thought was to toss a can of cream of potato into a pot of pasta (rotini, in this case), add some other stuff, and stir. Problems came when I didn't really have a large enough pot to cook it all in and it turned out the cream of potato was way too goddamn onion-y.

Next time, I make potato soup and just throw the pasta into that. Commercial shit leans way too damned heavily on the onion in my area, or something. I really don't like onion. Has become somewhat more tolerable lately, but still more vile than not.

It's on roguebasin. Good enough for me, heh.

Threw in yet another vote for T4. Maybe a short arena run or two at some point, even if a vote for the main campaign doesn't go through? They're relatively quick and painless.

Hey, twelve year olds could probably be hired pretty cheaply. Maybe the lore department got replaced. More money for the graphics and mechanics folks! Or not. Gotta' maximize that profit margin.

Hrm... what kind of powerpoint presentation?

They generally seem to come in two shades, from what I've seen. The kind that does all the work itself (note: These are 99.9% shitty, a pisspoor utilization of the technology, and by and large what gives powerpoint the degree of bad name it has. If you're reading off a powerpoint slide or sitting there while it's running, you're doing it wrong, imo.) and the kind that are used to accent and aid an actual presentation (these ones can be pretty great). Depending on what your intent is, the potential hurdles involved differ drastically.

Apparently a fear of heights. Can't really blame folks for that.

Now excuse me while I go take a nap on the roof >_>

I'd be up for it if a host is willing/interested/able, yeah.

If you're not already, mog, you might want to hop into the steam group posted earlier. I know there was a game a couple days ago folks tried to get you into, but were having trouble getting in contact with yeh. Dropping into a game after it starts is pretty viable, if you happen to miss the start of one.

Might want to check times on the google spreadsheet in the first post, too... maybe add your own times. Might help get an idea of when stuff's more likely to go down.
