General Discussion / Re: I require... decadence.

Someday, I'll be able to own all kinds of random crap.
You can own random crap without spending money on it!

I've got a little collection of junk I didn't spend a dime on, but keep around 'cause they're neat/odd or had some kind of significance. One of those giant ground sloth's teeth I pulled out of the ground (pretty large, black, fossilized), a piece of pavement from the scene a fairly major car wreck (top part of a semi's front just gone, iirc), one of those plastic things license plates go in laying around somewhere (someone had left it in the school's parking lot for like, a week or so. Ended up taking it home.), I think a couple handicap parking signs laying around (same dealio, though it was a couple weeks and people had walked off with the rest before I got a couple. Not the metal ones, though, just a wood stake with the little sign.), several feet of twine/thin rope that was holding up signs on campus (they took down the signs, left the rope. Don't mind if I do...)... buncha' stuff like that. Curio collections are easy. Especially when people are looking in the other direction >_>

... I may be a bit of a magpie, honestly. Just a little, and I don't indulge very often, but I could probably make a really shiny nest with all the glittery junk I've picked up over the years.

Decadence, though... yeah, nothing in my memory really stands out. There's only so many multi-million dollar mansions you can look at in askance before you start filtering it out, y'know?

... walk away? The mouth's vacuum was never that strong when I was fighting it.

The wind, on the other hand (master+)... that can get you. You basically can't stay in the air when that's going, but there's a lot of platforms to make contact with to stop from being dragged along by it, so it's usually not too bad.

Th'racial armors themselves are shown off in the armor video thingy... s'a ways back, not part of the most recent batches. In a few of the videos (including one or two of the most recent ones) you can see 'em switching to the bird-thing armor and get some change to the jump mechanics. I think Tiyuri chats something in one of the boxes related to the racial stuff, but I might be conflating that with something said in this thread or that big confirmed feature thing on the official forums.

And, of course, everything is subject to change, potentially  :P

Racial armor with unique benefits (gliding, waterbreathing, etc.), iirc. Eventually accessible by anyone after a bit of play. Dunno about anything beyond that, or if it's changed. You can see some of the armor and a bit of what it does in the videos, if I'm not badly misremembering things.

What if Skelly is already using a family recipe that corrects that already?  You could have too much spice, and then that gets made into a recipe and somebody doubles the spice, and so on and so forth until pumpkin pies are just a mountain of spice!
Mission accomplished, methinks.

... sentient anthropomorphized balls of gas. With tits.

Good news everybody! I think we found the gas I referenced last year! Breasts for everything, organic and non-organic alike! Take a puff of this novapipe and all mammaric truths will be revealed!

Hrm. Guess I was either not paying enough attention or having terrible luck, then. I kept having it focus on creeps I had no intention of shooting while champs I wanted to whack or creeps the extra damage would have moved into last-hit range were hovering a bit behind 'em. Guess it'd be pretty decent once you got used to it, or something...?

Spoiler: Or this one, whee (click to show/hide)

Bullet hell is both fun and hellaciously impractical :D

If an officer offers to release a female prisoner as long as she has sex with him, that's rape, extortion, and abuse of power.

This is the same situation, just with Marion "paying the fine on the behalf" of Robin.
That can be rape and extortion, and it almost certainly is abuse of power, but I definitely wouldn't say it is the former two in all cases. If the prisoner's term is somehow special cased (longer time/worse conditions than others who have been sentenced for the same crime) and the officer is the cause of that, it's definitely extortion. If the prisoner has no other choice (such as the obvious one of finishing the mandated prison time), then I'd pretty comfortably call that rape.

But the prisoner (serving a standard sentence and in appropriate conditions) going up to the officer and saying, "I'll do anything if you let me go." and the response being sex? That's not something I'd call rape or extortion if the prisoner accepts. Prostitution, abuse of power, corruption, yes. But not rape or extortion. There's clear consent with acceptable alternatives to declining the offer and the party who has created the situation and is seeking to gain something is the prisoner (having broken the law and seeking illegal release), not the officer (who is approached and sets and accepts sex as payment.).

---

It's kind of an interesting nuance to most of the scenarios that have been presented so far, honestly. The person in the position to free the imprisoned has generally been presented as the passive party (at least if you ignore the literary burden caused by using Robin Hood characters). The imprisoned caused their imprisonment by breaking the law and the one seeking their illegal release is the one approaching the releaser, who doesn't really have anything to do with the shit the other three have found themselves in. While the releaser is the one that sets the cost to the illegal release, it's the one seeking the release that initiates the interaction and attempts to seek a notable gain.

Basically, the sheriff-equivalents aren't really doing anything in these scenarios, they're having things done to them (either the responsibilities of their position forcing their action or the one seeking illegal release opening negotiations. To the degree the one in power expresses agency, it's to set and accept the price and release the prisoners.). It's an unusual thing to have the one in the position of power be the passive party in these kinds of scenarios.

Fairly certainly not an act of extortion, unless A & B were arrested under false charges. Also would depend on who D is, in that case, since D kinda' comes from nowhere. How D manages to release them, etc.

Assuming D doesn't make the laws A & B were arrested under (or, if D does make those laws, then making the assumption that D didn't make them specifically to imprison A & B, i.e. the law is something equivalent to just and it wasn't mandated to create situations like the one described.), D is not the one ultimately responsible for A & B's imprisonment and there's no coercive force whatsoever coming from D. Can't really call it extortion when the purpose of the imprisonment isn't extortion, methinks. Corruption, yes, and perhaps abuse of authority, but not extortion.

More or less as LB and others have been saying, D is morally culpable for taking a bribe (unless D doesn't have authority to release the prisoners, anyway. Ignoring the possibility of D doing jailbreak or whatever, basically.), but not much else. Well, unless prostitution from a third party is an acceptable form of bail/restitution in their society, I guess, in which case both D and C would probably be pretty blameless all around.

They're pretty random, yeah. The levels themselves seem fairly random and parts of the bosses seem to choose from a pool of available parts (which can mean that one boss fight wrecks you, but doing it again at the same difficulty results in a cakewalk. The mouth core on the forest boss is a particularly good example of it going easier, and the hammer on the castle one the other direction.), so you've got a pretty good chunk of variability. You also get new gimmicks/monsters coming in at the higher levels of the maps (forest master includes fairy queen, castle master starts throwing those goddamn books at you, etc.).

In other news, I did eventually manage to drop doctorate castle. It is goddamn miserable, even with abusing arguably buggy weapons (spider silk + optic lens + homing + dig) due to those damned books. The lower parts of the map in particular tend to end up freaking lousy with books flying every which way after a fairly short period of time. S'pretty unpleasant.

Heey... Quinn's kit is. Kinda' neat.

Somewhat terrible, but neat. I sorta' enjoy the way she plays -- the e in particular is neat*, and I enjoy the R's two-tone transformation/nuke. But the passive (and subsequently, the passive effects on the w) seems iffy, mostly due to inconsistency. Vault helps with that, but there's that little problem where you vault at something and they just laugh and throw hard CC in your face. Passive'd be nicer if it just didn't target wave minions (barring supers, perhaps) or small jungle creeps, I think. Also, as other noted, the range is kinda' low.

*Though being vulnerable during the dash and retreat is kind of a bitch. Would be nicer with some damage/CC mitigation added to the process. Not invulnerability, but less damage and reducing stuns/pins caught during the jump/retreat to slows...? Knockup proccing the retreat instead of causing knockup? That might be interesting.

... you'd think you'd get hazard pay or something when stuff like that happens, if it's a state appointed case or whatev' :-\

Instead you get attacked and paid less because of it. That's... kinda' some fucked up priorities.

Add my incredulity to the pile, though. Th'hell was going through that guy's mind? Anything?

Here's hoping your job search hits paydirt soon, Tru. You don't deserve stuff like that.

This. Should not. Be possible.
Dude. Dude. That's not the floor! That's -- hey! That's not the floor, dude. You don't walk on that! What the hell are you doing, that's not the floor! That's the ceiling. You don't walk on the ceiling, dude. Stop walking on that! Ahh! Quit walking on the ceiling!

And dude looks up at you and whispers, "No."

Mmmm... I'm... not sure, but I think I've found the best boss killing combo the game has to offer. Definitely at least one of the best.

Wand setup: Enchant: Dig, beam, caustic ichor x2. Dig's to deal with obstructions (particularly firing down through platforms) and beam's to keep the effect on the boss, so aiming and reload isn't as much of an issue.

Spell: Enchant: Explosive powder, alchemist stone, noxious slime x2. Explosive powder's to hit all the boss components at once, or at least most of them.

My current setup has A rank dig, B rank everything else on the wand, and an A rank noxious spore and explosive powder, and B rank alchemist stone and second noxious spore on the spell. While the wand debuff is on the enemy, each poison tick down does... 708 damage. Just improved it to a A rank alchie stone on the spell and... 816. Per. Tick. And there's ten ticks. So... 8160 damage from a single casting.

With a direct hit, anyway. 659 otherwise. A meager 6.5k damage :P

E: Two spell casts to kill last doctorate worm :3

... how are you folks doing the doctorate runs, anyway?
