The Plum in the Golden Vase
* MetalSlimeHunt snickers immaturely.

Actually, this is sort of good for me.  Bracing work that makes me think "ah, I'll never complain about novel length again.
Try reading the uncut version of The Stand. Then you'll never complain about novel length again for sure. Reading it during lunch, every study hall, and before the start of classes it still took me the better part of a year to finish. Around 3000 pages, as I remember it.
Only about a thousand pages according to wikipedia (though obviously page size would adjust page count)... about 500k words, going by some cursory searching. RotK is ~800k (or slightly more than 50% larger than The Stand, uncut). Couldn't find one quicklike for Dream of the Red Chamber (though it's only coming out at about 350 pages, paperback. I'd guess around 2-300k words.).

... I've read fanfiction that was over a million words for a single work <_< >_>

Young man, we used to walk 20 kilometres through the vacuum of space, while fending off cliques of so-called "bleeding-edge linguists". We could not understand a word they said.

Heh, I've got your blog RSS'd. Haven't been playing (distracted by other things :P), but it's been neat seeing what's coming along. Mostly waiting for more moving parts (spells, wizard types, etc.) to get implemented before I sink some time into it, m'self. Progress has seemed fairly strong, though. Definitely looking forward to the future of the game!

All it takes is one poorly/perfectly chosen turn of phrase and there it goes into the wild blue yonder, lost again, son of a bitch.

And they're wonderful. A hundred blessings on the mad genius that decided it was a good idea to make the bowls part of the meal. Truly a mind among the pinnacle of humanity.

We then turned it into glorious sandwiches.

Why would you ruin such perfectly serviceable meat by stuffing it in bread?
Because the answer to cooking is to combine all the things.

All the things. You combine them. This is cooking. Not exceptions. Nothing is safe.

Not even delicious, delicious bread.

Buried under the profit margin, of course. These things aren't there to provide the news, they're there to make a buck. News just happens to be how they go about doing it.

Ehn... shield with acid or nature resistance, preferably the latter. Movement infusion into rush, shield bash, block the mucus, counter-assault. Dead oozemancer. Dead most things, really. Counterstrike assaults melt faces like face melting is having a free giveaway week and the area is infested with face melt loving hobos.

Can also rush, bleeding edge (/whatever, really), movement infusion/TP/murder-an-ooze-for-step-up-proc out, then repeat until dead o'mancer. Bulwarks are really mobile, as paradoxical as that might seem, and benefit pretty heavily from hit/run tactics and/or careful positioning. Leverage the advantage!

Max step up, get a movement infusion, assault all the things. There's fiddly bits surrounding that, but that's more or less the core of it.

Frumple has gained delicious bread and water! Or at least better water than I've been drinking. My belly is full of bread and water. Delicious water. Cool, clear, water. Don't have a good song for the bread.

... about a half gallon of water in somewhat less than an hour. I was getting somewhat desperate for something liquid that wouldn't fuck with my throat more.

Sometimes the admin access is on the provider side or... something. Schools et al tend to do stuff like that, but sometimes flat out internet providers do, too. 'Tis a fair annoyance.

I'm done with stuff-to-do, by th'by. My body is ready :P

I'd give hosting a try, but, well, connection. And my computer is pretty miserable, heh. Which... I'm guessing one of those two being decent is needed.

Try Sheen proc Parrrleys. Once you go Sheen, you never go back.
and upgrade it for a Iceborn Gauntlet :)
I know it doesn't get you speed, but hey, AoE damage + shiv proc => clear a minions wave in a parley, with bonus gold for every creep ? you're gonna love it.
And your team too, when teamfights come and you deal your damage to every ennemy, slowing em ! :D
Triforce is actually an eventual goal with a speedplank, usually. I think. TT, so far, I've been going boots->shiv->boots of swiftness (game usually ends around here)->zephyr's blade (at which point slows, at least, can screw off. Poor ashe.)->something else, usually starting to build toward tri if it reaches that point. I'm willing to sacrifice a single item slot to sanity (i.e. without movespeed), but not two :P

Other current thought is to slip a tiamat (or maybe iceborn, sure) in there somewhere, toward the goal of farming like, entire waves with a single parrrley. Adding AoE/multihit really seems to boost parrrley's effectiveness, honestly. Extra gold aside, potentially turning it into a mana generator is all kinds of awesome. Wouldn't be a speedplank at that point, but ravenous/iceborn/statikk could make for shenanigans. Ridiculously expensive shenanigans, but still. Do think it'd regulate you to a somewhat more support-y role vs. enemy champions, but... that's kinda' okay. GP can do that via the slows (fairly weak, but also very constant) and the E/R. Parrrley'd still hurt like a whatsit and I'm not entirely sure what else a GP needs, ha.

Makes you wonder if Smith would have been impressed or pissed off we've apparently found the "invisible hand" of the market... and it's actually some fuckers squirreled away screwing with basically everything.

S'like looking behind the proverbial curtain and instead of finding a wizard you find some jackass buggering a piggybank :-\

Bot game is bot game, but... it feels odd when you outdamage your entire team by around a multiple of three. Weird as fuck for Heimerdinger to outdamage pantheon of all things in physical damage >_>

Poor guys were pretty terrible, though, and that's in comparison to me.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Other news, been playing a little lately. Trying further to get a feel for a speedplank build (all movespeed, all the time). One nice thing I've noticed is that shiv proc parrrleys are pretty damn painful, especially around when I'm seeming to pick it up on TT. 2-300 mixed damage nuke every few seconds around level ten-twelve, with a low enough cost you can spam pretty much all day every day (though I have been running mostly utility masteries, so far), especially if the shiv proc kills an extra critter or two (which can either make it outright free or gain mana >_>). Range is kinda' low, but eh. Early you can get off a shiv shot about every 1 1/2 parrrleys if you're moving around a lot (and you should be, that's why you're doing this :P)... once you get some extra MS on top of the shiv+boots you can pump out a statikk proc on pretty much every parrrley, if you feel like it.

Speedplank in general is... fun. Undoubtedly suboptimal, but fun. Q-W-E-Max q, max e, pick up R as it comes along. Most of the damage comes from parrrley (which helps with gold, as always), with boosting the E next both shoring up your damage a little (and boosting movespeed, of course) and providing a nice support ability (and easy way to nab assists >_>) you can leverage a bit better than normal gangplanks 'cause you can be pretty close to everywhere, especially off of SR. It's nice zooming around.

General Discussion / Re: Consciousness and brain transfers
« on: April 26, 2013, 07:48:31 pm »
we've been over this, you do not completely lose consciousness when you sleep. And consciousness is not a collection of thoughts, that is your memory. Consciousness is your awareness of the world.
You can definitely lose consciousness entirely without dying, though. Comas, hard enough hit to the head, etc., so forth, so on. Total sensory deprivation/full awareness loss is pretty rare, but it's possible for it to happen without killing a person (or sometimes, without them staying dead, heh.).

If losing consciousness is all it takes to be considered dead, and consciousness is just an awareness of the world (though note, that's usually not the definition for it, or at least not the whole one. Awareness of the self/differentiation from other things tends to come into play), then there's a fair number of dead people walking around right now.
