General Discussion / Re: Things that made you go "WTF?" today o_O

Honestly, if it's the cyclonic missiles or hitching a ride on an imperium ship, the fiery apocalyptic death would probably be cleaner and less painful. Might live longer, too.

Wait, what? They're immune to reclamation. How are you filching them?

Th'basic concept's pretty simple. I reject the concept of gendered clothing. Cloth is cloth is cloth, and until shirts start growing reproductive organs and sexually differentiating, the only difference -- to the extent there even is one, which is arguable -- between a "boy's" and a "girl's" shirt is who the blazes is wearing it. My jackets do not have functioning dangly bits, ergo, they are not boy jackets. They also have no womb, ergo, they are not girl jackets. They also have no brain, ergo, can not self-identify as an artificial gender role. It's a goddamn jacket. It has no sex.

By the gods, I will steal my opposite gendered parent's clothing as appropriate. If it fits and is comfortable, the rest of the considerations can bugger right the blazes off *grumble mumble*

I have similar rants on the bullshit of gender assigned colors. Until they start frakking breeding they're omnisexual/asexual and I've got a clawhammer that's very close to wanting to discuss any disagreements people have with that. It's honestly become progressively more annoying as I've gotten older :-\

An AI can be taught better than to think such silliness.

Though I suppose that might be close enough. There'd still be the issue of wearing sentient beings as a fashion statement. Now it's not just naked squirming midgets, it's naked squirming midget cyborgs.

Sounds like what'd probably happen if Piers Anthony wrote cyberpunk :-\

One day the rest of the world will realize that clothes won't have a gender until we explicitly turn them into biotextile monstrosities. Then, and only then, will they have the functioning genitalia needed for differentiated sexes.

Basically, insofar as I'm concerned, by the damned gods that shirt is not a girl shirt until it grows a pair of functioning tits. Or at least until its species starts sexually reproducing and growing enough of a brain to self-identify with the artificial gender roles its people create. At which point I'm not sure there won't be noticeable moral issues with still wearing them as clothing.

I mean... I guess if there was consent or something. But it'd be kinda' like wearing a suit made of naked midgets and I'm afraid it's going to take a great deal of social change before I find myself comfortable with that prospect.

Oh... those things were honestly one of the least dangerous things they were throwing at me, I think. Slow, don't do much damage, relatively flimsy, melee range. Not really a threat when they're trying to break into a system with full cap, uh. Everything. Except the mark III fortresses. And I guess the time-space manipulators. Only had half cap of those (and yeah, my engies were zipping along at like speed 500 or so.). I was actually losing the system (with a good... four thousand? Three thousand? Somewhere between those two. Enemy ships in it) when I won, but they weren't taking it easy or fast.

I do kinda' like 'em when I'm playing a non-defender map, though. Small starting population can do a pretty good job of taking care of normal AI waves for a system or two, especially if you've got a T-S manip or two supporting them.

Minor bump to say that defender mode
Spoiler: Gets silly (click to show/hide)

Definitely good for a quick "let's watch one system get pounded into mush", though. Fun how they start sending along thousand ship carriers near the end of it >_>

General Discussion / Re: Webcomic Thread!

*glances at RSS list*

*realizes that a good third of the webcomics on it would violate forum ToS*

*coughs*

Couple of the nice, cleaner ones I've gotten around to getting a feed for are Cucumber Quest and Paranatural. Rusty and Co., Unsounded (warning, may be a bit of goddess breast, I forget), and Namesake are all pretty solid, too. S'like a dozen or so I still haven't gotten around to sticking back on the RSS feed since the last computer transfer, and several obvious ones (McNinja, MSPA, etc.) I'll... let other people deal with.

E: And the obligatory older threads, to see the paths previously tread.

... write it good and then just refuse to go. Or have the guardian-whatever write a note disallowing it. Something along those lines. I'm relatively certain they can't legally chain you to the transportation method and force you along.

103 members voted. and noone has greed or envy as their highest sin? damn we are terrible people.
Noone is not a world nor has it ever been one.

Off to Cocytus you go!
Eehh. Someone'll name a planet after a dude named Noone sooner or later. I'd let it slide, this time. Investing in the future!

... well, no, you have. They've just had the local one. Probably common in more homogeneous areas, I'd guess. More likely to hit an accent you're not using yourself in a larger/more cross-cultural area.

Quality dip? It's not like it can go lower.
Well, now it can. Nature can't resist a taunt like that, scriv. Heads up for genuine abomination! It's coming. And it is your fault.

Non-zero chance folks at that level of skill just happen to like teamfights more than dicking around waiting for a better moment to act, frost. Probably still possible at that point to be enjoying playing the game instead of being particularly focused on long-term victory over short-term excitement.

You fight 'cause the fight's there! That's all the reason you need. To hell with your silly tactics, it's time to brawl. That's more interesting at the moment.

Something tells me racism is not caused by being called stupid.
Well, no, of course not. But racist remarks might be, if the person making them feels it's an insult that would stick. Bit of a GIGO issue, really.

Doesn't excuse it or anything silly like that and if the kid wasn't racist th'kid's probably around 'em quite a bit t'view that sort of thing as a fair retort, but... yeah.

The side which doesn't make it go. That's the wrong side to push a cart from.

Which. I don't think that side actually exists, unless the cart is rather heavy.
