Other Games / Re: Songs of Syx

That sounds more reasonable than my general strategy of "build production to the steady drumbeat of people dying", not gon' lie. Probably faster, too.

... that said, at least when I've played there didn't really seem to be a detriment to losing a constant drip of immigrants to exposure or starvation, so... I'unno, the incentive to do better ain't really there, y'know? Lives in Syx are apparently hella' cheap and in unending supply.

Plague's not over for anyone except the folks it's killed, last I checked. It'll be over eventually, but near as I can recall it's fairly normal for major plagues to last a few years. We're not even through year two, yet. I think somewhere last year I settled on expecting this to still largely be ongoing in 2024 or 25, if nothing more unusual than the vaccine shows up. The vaccine was somewhat hope raising, but then chunks of the world turned to nergal worship and welp.

If some of the medical developments I've heard about pan out (iirc there's a pill form something or another that was looking like it might drastically reduce hospitalization rates, and incidentally also maybe cure some or all of the common cold) things might clear up real fast, real sudden (... at least for major countries...), but we're... not there, right now.

... but yeah, county I'm living in is sub-40% vaccinated. My despair glands flatlined months ago on that front,* I'm mostly just hoping the vaccines hold out for my immediate family that mostly didn't join the nergal worshippers and the plague doesn't kill or cripple anyone I'm particularly close to. So far, so good, but I'm not even sure we're at the halfway mark to this run, so... yeah.

*Or something. Emotional state for the plague's mostly been like how I felt walking around the neighborhood after a cat 5 hurricane went over my house. There's a feeling of "this shit is going to last half a decade" in the same way it was expected, almost normal, to see half the treeline gone and lots of collapsed roofs and crap. Somethin' about it being a disaster and all this shit being what's part of the particular disaster somehow takes a lot of the edge off for me, y'know? My personal fuckups make dealing with the (lack of) social aspects and whatnot a lot easier than it seems to be for a lot of people, though.

Work music today was hours of big band jazz/swing stuff.

Highlights are Jef and Step, All the Cats Join In, and Anitra's Boogie, particularly the last two.

Monkeys Chickens aren't donkeys Hams. Quit messing with my head!
Not with that attitude they aren't!

Chicken heaven is probably the thing eating all the stuff that used to be too big to eat, anyway. No arm carries, just arm eaties.

Eh... from what I've encountered, they do, but there's basically zero thinking involved and they mostly come out of it saying whatever their local pastor says, even if that's something that could be accurately termed anti-christian, i.e. explicitly anathema to the teachings and actions of christ.

It's the sort of engagement that can read the story of Onan and leave with the conclusion it's a warning against masturbation or some kind of statement on contraception.

Depending on the continuity, he may already know it. Wouldn't be the first time some version of conan's time travelled to the US, I think.

2287
If and only if he teams up with hypnotoad.

Any idea so far as system, general timeframe, aesthetics or gameplay (turn based?), etc.?

Eh... some folks have pretty bad night terrors and whatnot. Otherwise tolerable is probably accurate enough. Generally is a decent catchall conditional :P

I dont understand you kids.  I keep track of URLs, not tabs.  I like my browser to **NOT** gobble down several gigabytes of RAM  with hundreds of advert scripts running in the background.

I have at MOST, 7 tabs open at any given time.
I tested it recently. The ram load difference between firefox with no tabs at all and firefox with 386 tabs going was... about 300 megs. Total. ~500 base load to ~800 all tabbed up and ready to go.

Modern browsers don't really give a shit if you got several hundred tabs open. The only time a browser will chew up multiple gigabytes is if something is explicitly fucking up (memory leak due to a html5 game or whatever), or you're trying to run several large videos concurrently or junk along those lines. Just having hundreds of tabs sitting around doesn't really do much anymore.

Third boss's music is pretty wild. Might be the first time I've encountered a game that straight up used the sounds of skinning something as part of its OST.

walk out door to cook dinner, TV has giant fancy letters across the screen saying THE JACKASS

it's a tales of well's fargo episode, if anyone was interested in the old timey tales of a deadly corporate mercenary

You go ahead and put some on that Pizza of Global Culture and Probably Atrocity to Someone, I'm gonna go make some toast for my marmite...
For what it's worth, I don't really eat the singles stuff anymore -- there's usually some in the house 'cause my grandmother likes it, but the only tolerance I have for cooking with it these days is very rarely melting it into something like mac and cheese or a soup or somethin'. The stuff's actually legitimately good for texture, and it's flavorless enough you can barely tell it's there, especially if you throw in some other!cheese for the cheese flavor.

Now, if you're looking for terrible american cheese, whatever it is velveeta uses is a fucking abomination. Stuff actually tastes worse than the plastic singles t'me, and somehow has a worse texture, too. You'd have to pay me to eat velveeta brand, these days.

not that i want to be too snide about people's dietary preferences but it's rich for americans to think that things like balut or fish sauce are gross and then proceed to eat american cheese
American cheese (or rather, government cheese, the vaguely plastic looking yellow stuff -- there's other sorts which are on par with basically anything on the market) is just kinda'... empty looking. It's mass produced cheese originally cooked up as a wartime ration type of deal. There's not really anything (literally) visceral to it like half-grown baby chicken, still in the egg. It's just sorta' soulless, y'know? Different sort of thing than gross.

Taste wise, it's just cheapass cheese with an okay cheese texture. There's nothing particularly unusual about it, it's just sort of an ur-example of commoditized mediocrity. As opposed to half gestated bird babies or... whatever.

Not gon' lie, I don't even remember there being an approval process. If it took time at all, it wasn't enough to stick in the memory.

... that said, I remember exactly nothing of the details of any registration processes I went through 14 years ago, so... I don't remember there not being one, either, ha.
