I forgot you can burn things while baking. Most of the things I make have like 20-30 minute windows before they get burned, but not bacon.
Nnyyeaaah. Even baking, cooking bacon doesn't take that long (<10 min, iirc, even at fairly low temps. It's been a bit.), and you basically have to sit and watch it. Which. There's no way to cook bacon besides microwaving that I'm aware of that not being true. Bacon cooks fast and burns faster.

Candied bacon sounds delicious, though. I tend to lightly baste cooked bacon with syrup or honey. So. Damned. Good.

Libre Office it's called nowadays, iirc (and there's the ninja). And True, it works with just about anything. It'll load .doc, save .doc, whatever. Seems to have some trouble saving .docx, but meh, you generally still want to be using .doc anyway due to backwards compatibility and crap. Part of the problem with trying to break compatibility via updating, as you're suggesting M$ would (do) do is that that screws over older software their own users use and cause all sorts of problems, so they generally don't (can't, really) do anything extreme enough to genuinely cause problems.

Basically, give it a try, work with it a bit if you can spare the time. I've had pretty good luck with it so far, and dropping the arseload cash burden that comes with keeping up with office for something free (and likely more compatible with non-office formats, to boot.) is, well. Kinda' speaks for itself.

E: And frankly, the more people convert to a FOSS source for fundamental software like text editing suites and suchlike, the better it's going to be for everyone. So, like. Spread the word et al. Awareness is generally all that's really stopping stuff like the near-monopoly M$ Office has from being broken.

Some things are more interesting than orgies, really.

I mean... not much. But when you've got dream-power backing you up, the not much becomes achievable. Also, if the conversation line continues, probably need to direct to something more appropriate. Using dragons as bass guitar while straddling the clouds or something.

Cousin's kid is a cousin X+1 removed, iirc. Something along those lines. Niece/nephew is sibling spawn.

It's too bad that Incursion's development has slowed down so much. The maker had a great plan for a bigger game (on the lines of ADOM but Incursion-style and more random). But it seems to be really really stuck.
Aye, aye. Last word I've heard was there might be something public either this year or next. Given that Inc's been in some form of development longer than DF has and still seems to be chugging along... well, I'm hopeful it'll pick back up at some point. Mensch has had pretty long gaps between anything playerside happening before, yeah, but seems pretty dedicated for all that other responsibilities get in the way. Got my eye on the google groups, in any case.

E: In the mean time, though, I'ma be turning this burgeoning puddingswarm into a ranged doomnuke with /call companions/. I do so love how ridiculous summoning and related shenanigans gets in Incursion. Such a tremendous difference from most other games that let you dabble in conjuration.

E2: It has got to embarrassing for greater demons to be dogpiled and murdered by =< CR1 critters, though. Can you imagine how much it must suck for a physical manifestation of raw evil to get itself jacked by a rolling ball of cave pelicans or somethin'?

Bug in an older roguelike I'm fond of (Incursion, yo'.) that I hadn't noticed before. My brown pudding illusion decided to split... into real brown puddings.

Mardnab the 2nd level gnome illusionist now has three CR 9 allies (put in comparison, one of these things could probably murder second level characters indefinitely.)... on the first level of the dungeon. i mean damn yeah chicka's got some crazy illusioncraft skills for level two dungeon fodder but I don't think it was convincing enough to trick reality into thinking the split critters are real maaan

This is some fate/stay night shit, just without reality noticing what happened and malignant flesh eating ooze instead of swords. Helluva' hat trick. I am the, uh. Cell wall of my skin dissolving pseudopod? Yeah, that doesn't sound quite as catchy.

I know I mention my job way too much, but I just did some quick calculations...

Out of the roughly 7000 shipments an average employee here will process in a year (and that's a very modest number), this new QIP program asks that we maintain a 99.98% accuracy rating with respect to nearly half the error categories we're held responsible for, without dropping in productivity.  It should be criminal to place that kind of pressure on someone.
Am... am I not buggering up math due to it being past midnight and you guys get to screw up something like... twice? Total? Over a year's period and several thousand individual shipments?

... I'd say that sounds very likely like they're just trying to set things up so they have an excuse to fire people and hire new ones at reduced pay. I don't think that's physically possible. Nevermind maintaining productivity levels.

Ah. Yeah, by and large, the same thing that applies to birds are the same the thing that applies to, well... most animals. It's generally not the animal's fault that it's got a bad attitude, and proper treatment and raising generally can prevent such things (there's exceptions, but they're, well, exceptions). The feathers missing in particular was probably a sign of either poor care, very old age, or both, and most likely the first (with no insult intended toward the grandmother, per se, but like with all animals there's a certain degree of study and effort involved to take care of them and when you let either of those slide it can cause problems.) or the last.

It's just... if you've got the space for it, and the resources, and the will, study up on things, maybe consult a nearby vet or somethin'. Don't let previous bad experience dissuade you, a parrot can be a pretty solid pet, just like any of the other more intelligent animals, if it's treated right.

Ehn... it's honestly not that bad, from what I've seen. Aunt has an African Grey (Which... she got for free. Showed up in her school's backyard or somethin'. It's notable 'cause those buggers are usually a few hundred bucks.), and a good dozen or so smaller non-parrots, and with a decent cage and a good stand, clean-up's not too intensive. Maybe a lil'more than keeping up with a litterbox, but not painfully so. Bit expensive, insofar as pets go, and from what I recall a bit more medical considerations than you'd have with a cat or dog (non-purebred, anyway) or suchlike. Dunno if you're in an area where the climate's alright for 'em, though. Sweet nature bird, pretty friendly if a lil'nibbly. Likes taunting their dog.

But gods weep keep Macaws away from me. Those things are goddamn terrifying. Take your bloody hand off at the wrist. Smaller parrot at least'll only take part of a finger.

So, threw out three. To cheat (sometimes you just want infinite resources, y'know?), to adjust personal gameplay annoyances (grinding can go bugger itself, after a point. also fire emblem's item degradation can crawl up a horse and die), and other. The other would sorta' fall under the code aspect, but... not quite. There's a number of games that I've played that I'll fire up a memory editor (used ArtMoney for the longest time, can't be arsed to bugger with multiple, some commercial, versions anymore, have switched to CE recently-ish) for a combination of testing (if I'm doing something odd, or messing with mods, or whathaveyou) and high-end mechanics exploration.

The latter in particular I've done with roguelikes (Particularly dungeon crawl, but others as well) quite often, as being able to explore the nuances of a particular situation that would normally kill you (and figure out how to avoid that results) rapidly instead of the over the course of several (dozen/hundred) deaths saves an absolutely ungodly amount of time. And, frankly, memory editing is often considerably more fluid and functional than whatever built in cheat or debug commands any particular game may have.

Slark x Naga? Umi, pick one. :P
... that...

... now I'm wondering if there's room for a mode where you specify the number of heroes each player starts with. So, like. Everyone could get two. Or twenty. Maybe an upper limit based on how many total heroes there are, so you could have a no-copy game. With every hero in the game on the map.

It would be an utter clusterfuck. A hilarious one.

But more toned down stuff would be somewhat more sane. Maybe a max of three or so, for a upper limit of 30 heroes on the map.

Eh, it's more just to collect than actually playing the games, although I'd obviously like to play them too. Contra doesn't feel right with a keyboard.
Gamepads for the computer are a thing ;)

Pretty sure there's NES-style pads and whatever. E: And by pretty sure I mean three second google. They've got stuff like that all over the place, and if emulators don't support them you've got programs that convert gamepad input to keyboard input for your programs and junk.

Hmm, so I'm assuming there really aren't any easy ways to get one without going to a garage sale or flea market or whatever? Might not exactly be the season for it, but I rarely see stuff like that at all in my area. :-\
Not for less than a couple hundred bucks, nope. Some of those systems are thirty year old pieces of electronics (Famicom came out in '83, yo'.). Nintendo tough back then was pretty damn tough, but fiddly electronic things don't tend to have the best of shelf life, especially when they're not well maintained (and who the bloody hell actually knew how to maintain the damn things back then? Less than a percent of the user base?). So the supply is really bloody limited, it's got collector value, and most importantly people actually want to get their hands on the machine.

So the price goes right on up. That's what happens. Short of ripping older or ignorant people off, you're not going to get the system for cheap. And ripping off said people will take some effort.

Found this guide to making your instant ramen taste better. Since I had some lying around, I tried one of the combo's, and it made it taste significantly more awesome.

If anyone is wondering at all (which I doubt), I did pork flavored ramen+crushed red pepper+soy sauce+mushrooms.

I accidentally put a little too much red pepper in, but I put some milk in after tasting it, and the spiciness went down to a level where it wasn't annoyingly spicy.

All in all, it was totally delicious. Much better then when I had it regularly.
Total lack of combining it with mac and cheese or mashed potatoes or both :(

Ramen thickened with potatoes with added cheese and some meatsies and pepper and whatever-else-is-on-hand is pretty good. Not really soup at that point, but good anyway. Somewhat less messy.

If I may? What in the unholy fuck? You know what? Nevermind. I don't want to know.
Well, for those reading along that might want to know... Hare+Guu. Titch bizarre in some ways (it is anime, after all), but amusing relatively often and safe for work by any standard I can recall. The misadventures of what amounts to an elder god and a young jungle boy and the surrounding village. Plus some other places. Some things get eaten! Sometimes more than once. Neat premise, decent execution, somewhat lovecraftian. I'd give it maybe a B, B-.
