General Discussion / Re: The Crossover Thread

As for the ork space hulk... that's kind of a tremendous variable, and depends on both the size and what's stuck in it. And in the latter case, it's just... whatever, I can barely conceptualize it. Anything, literally anything, in WH40k (and warp being warp and Orkz being Orkz, possibly more) could be firing out of that bloody thing, and depending on gods know what -- from the color the equipment is painted to time of day to just how particularly pissed off that band of orkz are and their composition -- its effectiveness and general effect could vary tremendously. I mean. Gatling nova cannon that has inter-system (i.e. measured in light years) range? Give us enough orkz thinking about it hard enough and it could happen. Maybe it shoots death stars studded with ship-sized lances! No one bloody knows!

That's what happens when you have a space ship functioning due to what amounts to literal magic. Get enough orkz together thinking a particular piece of dakka or dakka carrying thingy is going to work, and it'll bloody well work.

So, I mean. I'd bet on the Orkz. Though they'd probably just fire parts of the hulk at the other ships and try to take over. And if anything actually manages to get on... stick a fork in it, you're done. Ork spores basically don't come out :P

As to the latter question, I'd almost entirely say it's a matter of exacerbation. If you step off the internet and look at other media formats, the hyper-partisanship is often just as bad and sometimes even worse (at least with the net you've got the possibility of finding relatively sane or unbiased accounts on issues, which is often flat out g'damn impossible if you're sticking to TV or radio.).

I blame it on entertainment news, personally. There's bastards out there that are making money hand over fist causing, exaggerating, and maintaining the sort of hyper-contentious discourse that seems to be the default state nowadays.

Yeah... being fair, there's no guarantee you'll generate all four in one run, without copious advn/farportal farming. It's likely, all told, but not certain. So it's possible it just hasn't shown up yet.

Yes, yes, I can see the critters icons, but I have no idea what they are :P I mean, I think it's a few firewarrior squads and a broadside, but my experience with WH40k is limited to the video games, so I've got no clue if there's something odd going on.

S'kinda' like if there wasn't that sniper in my squad specifically mentioned I wouldn't be able to tell it apart from all the rest of the critters. Even knowing it's there I couldn't point the right unit out to you :P

It can show up anywhere random lore can show up... which is to say pretty much anywhere. I'm fairly certain you could get it as a drop from the advn. parties or orc ambushes (I think I've had lore drops from those, but I've currently got enough of a headache I could definitely be misremembering.), or stumble across it in a farportal. But no, unless you left it laying around one of the earlier levels (like, say, the sandworm lair >_>), you can't "miss" it, per se (and it's still be laying on the floor, I think. I don't think lore squelches, sorta' like artifacts.). Just have to wait until the RNG decides to smile upon you.

Third turn, same as the first two, insofar as Frumple's critters go. Sniper focuses on either squad leaders or the broadside, whichever's most likely to kill something. Bolter... I guess aim it at the broadside, if it's in range. Everything else just fire for effect -- shoot at whatever they're most likely to hit. Same for the bolter if the broadside isn't in range. Stay in the trenches, et al.

Echoing the earlier request: Is it possible to get a list of visible enemy forces?

I think so, anyway, but it may have been something weird with a really high mark critter. Could have sworn I read it in an actual book, but... who knows. I could definitely be misremembering something, and rummaging is having trouble turning anything up.

Hellrails are pretty rad, though :P

Lock-derail successfully averted.

Now the. A Mark XXX Bolo vs. an Imperator-class Titan.
That, uh. That would... I'm not actually sure who would win, there. I don't quite know how on the ball a mark thirty bolo was, but more than a few of their later models... I mean, an Imperator is basically anti-continent, I guess, but the higher end Bolos were system defense units. They provided anti-ship and anti-unit defense for an entire bloody solar system. I'm only somewhat disbelieving that a (upper mark) Bolo could land itself on a forge world (though maybe not Mars, or something in the Terran system) and just law waste to the joint.

Bolos are freaking incredible. The real question, of course, is what happens when you have an Imperator-class Titan/Bolo gattai. Or any similar-scale mecha/Bolo combination. Because if there's anything a giant robot the size of a large building/small town needs it's hyper-advanced intelligence and the ability to swat space-faring warships out of orbit.

More realistically, I'd imagine the Bolo would join sides or somethin'. Now, if it ran into one of the non-human Titans of similar heft, there'd probably be a showdown.

E: And to Sirus's point, those hellbores, yeah. Combined with the ability to land a shot from a loooong ways away :P Not sure what sort of range or movement speed an Imperator has. Bolos were pretty frisky on the ground speed front.

Forget Harry. Throw in Dumbledore.
Life expectancy of Harryverse character extended! By about two seconds :P

Eldrad is everything Dumbledore wishes he could be, and notably outgunned. ... so's Gandalf.

New Idea: The Harry Potter series and Shadowrun.
Shadowrun makes most things better, yeah. You'd have to upgun and cyberpunk everyone in the HP cast, though. Canon!Voldemort's kinda' small fry in the Shadowrun verse.

Does make me wonder what would happen if you smashed Shadowrun and Darksun together, though. I can't help but think adding cannibal halflings and thri-keen to a dystopic cyperpunk world would notably improve everything. Or adding cyberpunk to a dystopic desert-world. Either way.

[snip]
Continuing the omni-fight thing, if we let folks bring in friends/allies/infinite their-canon resources, things get... sillier. Nasuverse canon, you could have a tantric orgy on top of a mountain of magically charged gems and do, well, pretty much anything. To say nothing of tapping somethingone like Zelretch (though, being fair, I'd probably be amused if that one came visiting. Dude played volleyball with the goddamn moon and basically wields the power of fanfiction manifest into reality.) to come play. And there's probably crazier stuff out there, Nasuverse is pretty twisty. It'd be pretty interesting if Nuke Chick lost her power when Eldrad showed up.

Lot of it for Archer depends on other things, though... especially range. It's another one of those things in his and Nanoha's favor that they can both operate pretty far out if they feel like it, which would fairly well nix several of the other guys. That might be a point in Eldrad's favor, too, if he brought along some heavier Eldar firepower, but the rest of the mentioned (insofar as I know) were pretty heavily limited by both line of sight and fairly close range. Those three can potentially operate from a couple miles out, heh. Though, uh. Nanoha's space capable, right? Rocks fall, everyone dies.

Bink... yeah, if you interpret Archer's stuff as magically created (though that's not quite what's going on, per se. It's more like magic is tricking reality into thinking they exist :P), that'd be a potential problem. Solvable by shooting Luke and nicking the lightsaber, heh. Or possibly just beating Bink to death, which, uh. He'd probably be pretty capable of, really. Counter-guardian version, definitely, even without magical reinforcement.

I'd forgotten about balefire, though, and only got... maybe half way through Rand's series (a long, long time ago, so I remember nothing :P) so I don't exactly remember what the dude can do beyond that. Poor guy would still fit into the squsihy wizard category comparatively, though. Archer (spear through heart, still going, whee! Well, and there's the one that can at least partially turn himself into swords, iirc.) and Nanoha (Barrier jacket, taking skyscraper wrecking shots and still moving, etc.) are the only ones that really approach tanky, with probably Eldrad and possibly Gandalf (if he does, in fact, have non-magical weapons immunity) coming in second.

I'm kinda' amused that Raven hasn't even crossed my mind as viable, though. Telekinetic that might be able to emergency summon a demon in? Meh. And poor Harry. Poor, poor Harry. Best chance he'd have against g'damn anything is AK, and the chances of that even hitting pretty much ever other person specifically mentioned is zero. Cept maybe Rand, I'unno.

It's worth noting for lichform necros (necros in general, really) that bloodcaller stacks with vampiric gifts. Additively, as near as I can tell. Want to tack on an extra 30% leech and slip in an additional 15% chance to proc? Go for it. You'll probably end up with something else by the end game (solid +10 conjurer ring or somethin', for extra mana if nothing else), but for the mid-ish game, if you're using vamp gifts, it might be a good idea to make th'talent even better.

Well, it'd depend on what that means, exactly. From what I remember of LotR (though note that's neither much nor particularly in depth) there's a fair bit of mortals dicking around with god-critters in the history, so as divine entities go the Tolkien folks might not be all that impressive. Certainly Gandalf himself never demonstrated anything particularly impressive (at least compared to screaming beams of magical death, heh), from what I can recall. Nothing on the scale of squishing mountains :P Little bit of brushing up shows maybe some army knocking aside, but I'm fairly sure Nanoha could just kinda' splat a few dozen medieval-tech armies... on a bad day.

It's not something I'd give good odds for Gandalf on. S'like I said, the power scale, so to speak, of the different continuities are kinda' disparate, plus they're in wildly different thematic realms. High fantasy vs. mecha combat via magical girls. You get different sorts of power creep in those types of things :P

I bet people are just shy or apprehensive. Come on people! You know you want to play video games!
Ha. Nah, in my case I'm sorta' interested but I haven't seen my NWN discs in a long, long time and I'm a bit leery about reacquiring them on the connection I'm on at the moment, heh. So no access to be able to join in :-\
