Honestly, if they were going to implement space whales in a gameplay-impacting manner, they'd probably use them as an excuse to make organic looking battle arenas.

Which I could dig. Could do a whole series of spaceborn superfauna -- possibly even having the arena construction algorithms, and perhaps other aspects of the battlegrounds, take their outline from the procedural monsters. Attacks and movement types of the critter its based on could change arena hazards and stuff like gravity or whatever. There's a lot you could do with that, really, and it'd be a pretty neat tie in to have some of your "asteroids" actually be supersized versions of something you've already encountered on land.

You spend too long on these forums, you need to spend more time in meatspace.
Wat ó_O
Trust me, if you've been here for a year and spent about 100 days on it, you need to get outside more.

Excluding xantalos. He's as outside as you can get. He's outside the universe and sanity.
Sometimes you leave the computer on while you're doing other things, dudeling. It is a thing that can be done! I know it is magic, but... yeah. You can leave the computer on. And the browser open. Even if you're, like.  The next state over. Browser can also be open while you're doing, like, other things.

I just kinda' leave a couple B12 tabs open and Opera on, like. Always. Will refrain from log-in time waving, tough. It's not very impressive, considering how long ago I joined the forums :-\

Gwarble. I'd seriously suggest giving the T4 forum a search on stealth specifically, as the details are annoying and I can't remember them off the top of my head. Suffice it to say that stealth is actually really powerful and stuff "seeing you" doesn't quite do what you might expect it to. Insofar as I can recall, just because they can see you one turn, doesn't mean they see you the next. Stealth is just... really nice, but the mechanics are somewhat obtuse.

As for DS/Flurry, I wouldn't max those early, myself. I usually get flurry to about 3/5 (around 90-100% damage per hit) and leave it for quite a while, and there's no telling if I'll invest much in DS at all (stunning's good, killing is better, and DS+dirty fighting is usually enough to kill most things even with both at 1/5). Sweep and whirlwind are both good, as well.

Traps will get you through most of the tier one stuff. Bear trap alone is enough to kill most of the melee bosses, really, if you felt like kiting a lot (obviously not as viable with a ghoul rogue [also note: ghoul rogues are pretty solid. They're beefy.].), and it makes kiting in general a sinch. Just remember you can place a trap directly below you and then step off it.

Other than that... I'unno. Don't forget that instant melee attack you've got, it's nice. You probably want to prioritize debuffing daggers (icy, elemental, slime, etc.) since you'll be doing plenty of damage anyway. The poison tree's fairly solid for that, too.

There's... probably plenty more that could be said. Check the T4 forums for character reports, I think we had a few rogue winners fairly recently. The posts on those should be somewhat illuminating. E: Actually, that was a shadowblade. Ehn. E2: Though according to the vault, tiger_eye did win with a (really freaking weird) ghoul rogue that... as near as I can tell, went, uh. Staves. ... man, I don't know what the hell went on with that critter.

Ah, fair enough. Th'point about 'im roping some other time traveling critter into it stands, though :P I don't think there's anything particularly meaningful stopping supes from time travel or whathaveyou if he really feels like it.

Pretty sure both characters are consistently FTL when they want to be. How much faster is debatable, but both can at least travel some arbitrary multiple of light speed.
I do wonder about this. I know Goku has the whole instant transmission thing (would would appear to obviously break FTL, perhaps to an arbitrary degree -- I don't remember if that thing had range limits or anything.), but I don't remember if he could break the limit just via pure speed. It's... been a long damn time since I've watched/read any of the dragonball stuff. Remember any examples off the top of your head?

Quote from: Dr. Wik
In Superman: The Movie, Superman's speed was shown as fast enough to reverse the timestream.
Which is all that really needs to be said, I guess. There's probably other incidents involved, and gods know that if he couldn't himself he'd just go mug enlist one of the DC critters capable of it.

Quote from: The same
Superman's power levels also grew throughout the 1940s; by 1947, he is able to use his super-speed to break the time barrier for the first time.[13]
If the movies aren't acceptable. [13] points at #48 of Superman volume one (whatever that is). So. One of the superman incarnations can probably manage it.

Anyway, silliness and character breaking aside, is the thing actually entertaining to watch?

General Discussion / Re: The Official Bay12 - 52 books challenge 2013
« on: January 12, 2013, 04:54:27 pm »
I think the discussion there largely came down as "one book is one book". One long book is still one book :P

Me, I'd recommend doing what I'm doing -- keep a second tally of words (/pages) and consider yourself "done enough" when you hit either (or both) limit(s). I'm currently at 3/52, .36m/5.2m, but book four's going to outright double my word count tally :P

I think part of the whole point is to encourage folks to read (and perhaps track what they read for a year) more than adherence to a strict ruleset. So, if you feel like counting 500+ page books as two... go ahead. S'not exactly a competition, the only person you can "cheat" (for lack of a better word) is yourself.

I know they are trying to steer clear of race having much effect but... Will those tentacle-thingies be better swimmers? I mean, a robot has the duel problem of being heavy AND vulnerable water. I'm assuming the tentacle-thingies are from a water world. Maybe their starting armor gives them a bonus to swimming?
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but your race doesn't only change the aesthetics of items, but each race's armor will also have a different special ability. Here's the list, copied form the forums:
    Avian: Allows you to glide
Apex: Allows you to jump higher, maybe run faster
Human: Allows you to carry more items "possibly"
Robot: Allows you to mine faster
Floran: Allows you to convert sunlight into extra energy
Hylotl: Allows you to breathe underwater and swim faster

Assuming the information's accurate and remains thusly on release.

Eesh. Took me nearly a week to get around to finishing book(ish thing) two, and then less than a day (more like... four or five hours.) to finish the third. Despite them being the same size, more or less, in terms of wordage. Good readin's good readin'. But I really should have been sleeping. Though that was, at least, much better done than book(thing) two.

I officially forgive anything the U.S. administration has ever done wrong.
(not really, but this is hilarious and awesome)
Key point with the response probably being more who wrote it (and what they're part of) than anything else. I don't think the "Science and Space Branch at the White House Office of Management and Budget" has done anything particularly odious, uh. I won't go so far as to say ever, but if our non-military research has been doing stuff notably immoral it's been at a much lower frequency than most of the rest of th'government.

Yes, but I think he holds the record. Hamlet only has two living named characters at the end, one of whom only has a couple of lines in the entire play.
Naah, there's got to be a few that had total party wipes by the end of it. Comedies or parodies if nothing else. Mind you, I can't remember any because it's been a while since I've interacted with theater in any way (and wasn't exactly invested even then), but I'd be really surprised if they weren't out there. Lot of those old plays were pretty hardcore, honestly. The entertainment biz hasn't changed all that much over the centuries, in some ways.

Aannnndddd now I'm thinking of a homoerotic Romeo and Juliet done inside a wrestling ring with the entire (all male) cast being the wrestlers. There would be elbow drops and junk (heeheehee).

Considering they used to do the whole all-male casts anyway, it's not as much of a stretch (ahahahahahahahahahaha) as it might be.

Really though, a lot of classical theatre was pretty damn violent. Shakespeare didn't even remotely have a monopoly on that.

Aren't the majority of gun control advocates in the states, y'know. Not? Talking about banning guns? Other than maybe assault weapons (whatever the hell those are that day of the week) that's generally not what I've seen advocated, and even in the case of those it's tended toward much stricter regulation than outright banning.

I guess it's just that the fringe babbling is all that's needed to strawman the whole movement or something?

Back! Back, foul Kender!
No, no. No wanderlust. Or compulsive lying. And while I am somewhat below the national average in terms of height... not that much.

But then again, that may be what an internet enabled kender would say. Hrm.
