So why exactly don't third parties work in America?
Search this thread for "third party." Most of what you want to know is probably answered. Repeatedly.

Or just read the whole thing. Only a bit over ten thousand posts!

tl;dr version: System's rigged and the big names have the big money.

Economic improvement generally seems to happen when money's moving. Disasters are a "good" way to force people to pull resources from storage and start using them, giving a general boost to economic health in the area, for a while. Something something broken window something. S'problems related to long term stuff and sustainability (disaster every tuesday = bad, but one every once in a while, when things are starting to stagnate a bit...), but the concept's there.

If by 'vague alien threat' you mean 'citizens of the empire'.
V-something-Vong, actually, iirc. I think. Maybe. Might' been the bakura lizard critters. Or something else, s'not like there's not probably dozens out there. Emperor was actually kinda' on the ball in a lot of ways, but gods know the SW continuity is all kinds of fucked up.

Vacuum mod beats me into the ground :-\

Quite interesting, but getting off the ground and starting to accrue shit is... not happening, for me. Got to level seven, mostly by being blown to crap. Firing up fleet control now >_>

Dionysus is the god of drunks and madmen. Since already have to be somewhat crazy to expose yourself to the playerbase of your average AoS knockoff (and make no mistake, DotA is the current paragon example of an AoS knockoff), playing drunk probably gives you a second dosage of his blessing.

Clearly, Drunk DotA is a modern day ritual of worship for the Grecian gods.

So. Runaan's Hurricane. That is some danmaku shit right there.

And I'm loving it. Hurricane on an otherwise AP teemo, who's probably doing most of his damage via on-hit anyway? Have fun watching 3/5s of your team melt. And. All the pushing. All of it. It's kinda' hilarious. Shame about the range on the thing, but... don't care. Too amused. Whee~

Hey, if the syllabus/assignment(/general school rules or legal constraints, I guess) doesn't specify otherwise, it's fair game. Teacher's own fault for not being clear.

You can always ask, if you want to be sure. If the teacher's savvy enough to mention open internet, though, they're probably aware of wolfram.

Front/back cover, habitually. I'll usually have one on hand when I'm out and about, so they make good impromptu notepads. There are many paperbacks in my possession that now possess strings of numbers or cryptic, unfinished sentences on the inside of their covers, my memory no longer possessing the context to decipher their meaning with.

It's a sad day when we have to save books from being destroyed by public libraries.
Most of the times I've ran into this, it was... mostly an issue of space. Having somewhere to put the things. I've had several libraries in my area just... give away books. Completely gratis. And still have some left over, with nowhere to put them. When every library in your area is literally packed and no one'll take things off your hands... eventually it's the burn pile/recycling plant or... nowhere, really. Costs money to shift many hundred pounds of processed wood pulp around, y'know?

Anyway, digitalization a-go-go. S'nice to be able to fit an entire county library in the space of a single hardback book.

Books... booooks. Many hundred, yes. Most fiction, few less frivolous stuff. They've been stuffed into boxes or closets for... years, now. I'm terrifyingly glad I'm fine reading stuff off the computer. Just... gutenberg alone, has saved and will save me many, many (more) hundreds of dollars. To say nothing about transferring my fiction reading over to non-commercial stuff. Thousands upon thousands in cash, even at thrift-store prices. Good reading is good reading, even if it's unpublishable on the market for whatever reason. And then there's e-books... don't need a dedicated reader, yo'. Just a computer.

But anyway. Nothing wrong with a lil'bibliophilia if you're still able to feed and shelter yourself. My problem was I was booking myself out of food money even at a quarter a book :-\

Find work that covers housing, leave them where they're at, send food money, and go elsewhere? Alternately leave the crap behind.

I still don't read fanfic.
Yeah, you're only making a collaborative Battlestar Galactica (AU, Improv) one over in Play with your Buddies :P

I still dont get WTF shipping actually is.
A form of fanfiction pairing up various characters romantically/erotically, often characters who would not be paired in such a fashion in-universe.

Also known as "slashfic" from the practice of referring to a given "ship" by the two characters' names seperated by a slash. Such as "Buffy/Spike".
Slashfic actually has pretty specific connotations nowadays, and is generally reserved for stories involving male homosexuality as a primary story point. Femslash is the female variant. You'd be looking at something like Spike/Angel(us) in that continuity, if it were a slashfic :P S'generally just shortened to slash, though. More or less an equivalent to yaoi or shonen-ai.

First bit's accurate, though! Though it's less a form of fanfiction so much as a general aspect of fanfiction. It gets involved in stuff that doesn't have much of a focus on relationships, et al. S'mostly just shorthand for a "these are major characters and who they're primarily interacting with" sort of thing.

The more you know! *rainbow*

Yeah... beat everyone into the ground, but leave someone with one puny hemmed in town. Then win via the wildlands quest. Kind of a, "Haha, I could end you at any point... but I'm going to go save the world instead, and leave you to suffer and wail fruitlessly at my unstoppable armies. U mad?"
