And now for something completely different.
Dogs with cars.
That's cheating, they're just being told what to do.
Also because pigs are smarter but nobody ever raises awareness about that. I'm sure it's some sort of conspiracy between those who want to keep the porcine food products.
Almost every time I hear pigs brought up in discussion in real life, at some point the fact that they're smarter than dogs is brought up. Maybe it's a regional thing, but where I'm at most people are perfectly aware that pigs are quite smart.

People just don't care. Bacon is too delicious, and pigs have other behavioral quirks that detract from their likability (mostly the whole "eats goddamn everything, including you" bit, imo. I have no sympathy for chickens for similar reasons.). Plus, other than the ones bred small... they get kinda' big. Like, width wise. Makes it harder to have as a house pet, y'know? Large dog less likely to destroy living room walking through it.

Understrength worked, yeah. Under ordnance was... not viable. Freighter needed speed to keep up with stuff. I think.

S'fairly irrelevant, shortly after noticing it worked, I had a chance to capture a much bigger freighter (gigantophis cruiser) that actually had some kick to it, and now I don't worry about it flying along with me. It'll blow up the half of the enemy fleet I don't get to first :P

Ah, thanks for the reqs. Enjoying Uomoz's at the moment, probably try the rest soon after.

I just now remembered how easy it is to remove the ammo/energy costs from all the weapons. Full power total destruction time~

In other news, is there any way to automatically exclude some of your ships from battle, or at least have 'em auto-retreat? It's getting tiresome to tell the freighter to retreat at the start of every battle :-\

The Arthurian Romances could be considers 'shipping fan-fiction, since later writers mixed up the characters so much, added new relationships etc.

I'd probably contend that almost all fan-fiction is modern. Previous to the computers + internet it was difficult to create, publish or disseminate your fan-fiction to more than a few people. Plus, there are a lot more literate people now than any other time in history.
Oral traditions, baby. From what I remember of what we know of it, it was pretty common to riff on older/other stories for lulz and otherwise, way back when. Think of it as standup improv fanfiction. Parody and thinly veiled name/scenario changing wasn't exactly uncommon once we did start writing, either. The basic "variation on a motif" drive underlying fanfiction is a pretty ubiquitous thing ;)

I'm surprised you didn't know this, fan-fiction STARTED almost 100% as shipping with all the Kirk x Spock slash fic's in the 70's - read about it here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slash_fiction

Non-shipping fan fiction may be even rarer than the 'ship stuff.
Eehhnn... th'more modern stuff, maybe. Fanfiction's older than written history, really.

S'true that by bulk a majority of it's romance/friskiness related. Considering the species writing the stuff, is that really a surprise? A lot of stuff just does kind of... cursory pairing type stuff, though. Some people have strange tastes and won't touch certain combinations of relationships, even if they're platonic or offscenes. It is what it is, I guess.

Some... some people don't like cheesecake. I guess. I've never actually met anyone that didn't at least tolerate it fairly well. I'm certainly not one of them, I can sit down and eat like, three whole cheesecakes or whatever. Then probably get violently ill and I wouldn't do that anyway (because while gorging can be nice, having a slice or two of cheesecake daily for, like, a week or two, is better.) but still.

... were you referring to the other kind of cheesecake?

... what would you considering "winning"? Depending on the goal in question, a lot of variables shift around.

16 is an adult for shipping purposes, just like 18 is an adult for killing purposes and 21 is an adult for drinking purposes.

...so hypothetically all girls who are juniors and above at any high school on earth can be hypothetically written into a shipfic...many of which often feature certain scenes of "questionable adult material,"...hypothetically.

...Somewhere, at this moment, Chris Hansen is detecting a serious disturbance in the force.
With the appropriate authorial handwave (warning: TVTropes link), apparent age becomes irrelevant.

It's kinda' amusing when manga et al lampshades that one, or the inverse one.

Material science and nutrition has progressed far. Today, even the breasts are better. And leisure time... sometimes, I wonder. Does a 2/3-hour work day stack up to a third of the life span? Sounds to me like it'd almost balance out, in terms of total time. Perhaps a qualitative difference, but again, it's hard to measure dysentery versus stress, y'know? Anyway, it's society/politics keeping us running around 6-8 hours a day, not tech. We've got the tech to work much, much less than we do.

In actual sads, weekend trip thing fucked up my sleeping pattern as... more or less predicted. Multiple nights being kept up past midnight by people chattering buggered it up nice and good. Gonna' take a few days to fix this, and the interim will be fairly miserable :-\

Sooo... mod suggestions for the latest beta?

And... yeah. The court actually did say she was 20% at fault, and reduced the compensatory damages accordingly.
Quote from: From Dr. Wik
Applying the principles of comparative negligence, the jury found that McDonald's was 80% responsible for the incident and Liebeck was 20% at fault. Though there was a warning on the coffee cup, the jury decided that the warning was neither large enough nor sufficient. They awarded Liebeck US$200,000 in compensatory damages, which was then reduced by 20% to $160,000.

It's ctrl+click, by default. Shift-click is the slider thing.

Basically, the coffee was too hot?

Still, seems pretty stupid.
Hot enough that the warnings provided by McD was deemed insufficient to properly portray the danger, t'be more specific. I can sorta' agree with that, really.

It was also compared to other companies who provided coffee, who served th'stuff at a much lower temperature.  McD was serving the stuff while it was almost still boiling (180-190F, 82-88C), which, yeah, is a little crazy. I can see slapping someone with damages for not labeling their stuff more specifically. Merely "hot" is a little, y'know, understating things.

E:And she was held partially responsible, GO. In your case, it'd be more like falling over and cracking your head because of a poorly constructed sidewalk or somethin'.

Japan: Because we can, and a significant portion of a our population enjoys it and is willing to pay for the production thereof. U mad?

And even some of the apocalyptic ones...
Fortunately for me, I'm not even sure if I exist in a physical sense. Maybe.
Japan: Ahahahaha, you say that like it's sufficient to stop us! You poor, naive fool.

That... depends heavily on a lot of things :P

Well seeded torrents often are, though, yeah. Often. Depends on your own connection. I only use torrents when I feel like being nice about someone else's bandwidth, really. Or torrents are the only place to get stuff at. If it's a solid FTP connection or whatev', it's almost always quicker off my line.
