Better question is if it only applies to live whales. What about dead ones? Or like, whale steaks or somethin'.

All other things considered, there was one non-miserable thing that came from the hellevent today. Out of the three times the person being honored's home town was mentioned, no one got it right.

Even better, the same place was never mentioned twice.

There's a degree of WTF when people get up to speech about someone retiring and then bugger up the home town thrice in a row, without even the consistency of getting it wrong the same way. Different people, but... still.

On the flip side, the home town's pretty damn ignorable. I can't really blame anyone for not remembering it.

... you can make pasta from potatoes. I have eaten potato noodles.

Ergo, potatoes win.

Re: Caffeine withdrawal... s'not that bad, or the period where I went without for a few months wasn't. Worst withdrawal symptoms were maybe a bit of a headache for a few days. I've had worse from glasses prescription starting to change. That was after fairly regularly consuming caffeine, if not quite at the level of your average two-three cups/day coffee drinker or whatev', since... well, let's just go with decade+.

From what I understand everyone reacts somewhat different, though.

Just finished a good two-three hours of one of the most stressful situations you can put me in that aren't directly life threatening. Put me in roughly in the center of a room with a good hundred+ people I have no fucking clue are for a couple hours? Don't let me get myself up against a wall or in a corner (preferably near the door)? Have random people occasionally hugging or touching me? Stick a fork in me, m'goddamn done. Fairly smooth while it's going down (especially if you don't actually know me well), but once it's over I crash like a m'fook. My bloody everything is still halfway on edge, the headache's getting progressively worse as my senses start to relax somewhat, half-way to tears off and on, starting to ache in places.  Goddamn but growing up in that shitpool of a town has fucked me up pretty hard in some ways. Introversion plus paranoia = "social parties are the fifth circle of hell."

Probably going to end up doing it again with a slightly smaller crowd day after tomorrow. Then a six damned hour drive riding herd on an 80+ year old person that refuses to let other people drive. Then I'll likely stick myself in my room at home and not bleeding move for 48-72 hours. I generally don't tell family I love 'em or anything like that, but it's shit like putting myself through what amounts to torture that says I care, I guess.

Feels again, RK. General best wishes.

Final Nintendo Power cover revealed.

There are no gifs to describe what I am feeling.
Just looking at it... it looks too thin. I remember the older NPs being... hefty.

The good kind.

What options do you have?

23871
Buggery hell. Don't suppose there's some kind of legal recourse for that?

Though no doubt even if there were it'd probably be more shit than it's worth getting anything out of it :-\

Can cut katamari off that, too. Functioning PS2 emulators exist :P

Vib-ribbon, too. That's a PSX one, been PC runnable for a long while now.

That sentence... would depend on what the agencies are saying the blockage is. If it's just travel, then it'd be "get to" (though "travel to" would probably fit better). If it's border or immigration issues or somethin' (bribing your way into the country, y'ken?), then it'd be "get into." Context!

General Discussion / Re: American Election Megathread - It's Over

It seems to me that the fact that there can be this much disagreement on what the proper policies are, despite the wealth of information available, is simply evidence that market economies don't work.
To finish your sentence, since you cut off prematurely, you need the words, "on certain things." It's kind of a known thing, even among th'systems related to market economies themselves, that certain goods and services simply do not function as market economies. Pretty much everything that can be considered genuinely necessary*  is a problem for free markets, as I understand it. Some stuff just can't be influenced by market forces, or at least can't to the degree necessary to have a healthy system. Market economies are damn good at dealing with luxury items in general, stuff that the "invisible hand of the market" can actually work well on. Not so much healthcare when you leg just got cut off or gas, stuff like that.

*Sustenance-level food, shelter, health care, especially in emergency situations, transportation if it's required to function in a society. S'less of an issue when there's a surplus of any of those, but it's still a fairly fundamental "square peg, round hole" sort of situation.

... every public library I've been in to date* has stocked both Piers Anthony's Firefly and copious amounts of romance novels (These two in combination are sufficient for a litmus test of the appropriate nature.). I peeked into some of the latter, in passing, and I've seen less explicit explicit fanfiction. Librarians know these things are on their shelves. They've probably read some or all of them. Each and every one are utter freaks at their core. The public facade is a facade. Have this sliver of truth.

I like libraries. Nice places to volunteer. Tend to do quite a bit of good works, all around. Dens of filth and debauchery. Some things can be perfect.

*I'll refrain from saying just how many :P

« on: November 29, 2012, 09:19:52 am »
I have read th'rules. Steam ID is JackThejil.

I'd like to sign up for:
Arcania: Gothic IV from Nirur Torir (December 1st)
Avadon: The Black Fortress from BigD145 (December 5th)
Borderlands GOTY Edition from webadict (Currently undecided)
Civilization 5 from USEC_OFFICER (December 17th)
Dawn of War Platinum and
Dawn of War II from LoSboccacc (December 18th)
Geneforge Saga from DeKaFu (Currently undecided)
Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale from alexwazer (Currently undecided)
Scribblenauts Unlimited from RedWarrior0 (December 18th)
Space Empires V from Naxza (December 10th)
Supreme Commander 2 from scrdest (Currently undecided)

The list makes me feel greedy :P Completely unsure if I'll be able to add anything to the pot* , and probably won't be able to find out until it's actually christmas. Still, a thousand huzzahs and a huzzah to everyone contributing!

E: Ah, and there's about 50/50 odds I won't have internet access from t'day until th'second or third, if that ends up mattering ;D

*Though if by some highly unlikely RNG fluke I get selected for more than two or so, I'll probably hand the extra ones to th'person at the bottom of whatever selection list is generated.

160GB capacity. I'ma need a lot more music to get to that kind of stage.
Says you. I've hit half that just getting the OCRemix stuff plus a lil', and that's a trivial start. Your path to fullness is a short one :P

Lots of good, free, music out there these days. ACQUIRE ACQUIRE ACQUIRE *robot noises*

23879
That little feeling when you manage to jigger your music player so there's less than a half meg of free space on it. Kinda' wish I kept a small collection of decent tunes in the few hundred kb range of file sizes, just to top things off.

One day... one day, I'll manage to get it under 10 kb. That day is not this day, but... eventually.

Ignoring the rest of the discussion (we've had it before, ahaha. Bucket was there, too.), you, uh. Really want a sundry list of things Apple has shat upon? Maybe the number of lives that have been lost because people were fiddling with one instead of driving? There's probably a good list of lives that have been made worse by the iPhone.

... you can find a better example to try to make your point with, probably.
