General Discussion / Re: Things that made you go "WTF?" today o_O

Mostly woke up from a dream, spent a minute or two staring at the back of my eyelids thinking, "Did the computer just crash or somethin'? Why isn't the screen turning back on after I closed that program?"

Then I did a cognitive blink or two and went, "Oh. Right. You're mostly asleep, your eyes are closed, and the computer is actually (more or less) off."

In my defense, th'dream was sorta' structured like I was watching a video of a vacation trip. Along those lines. So when the "video" ended, I was like, "Hey, what gives?"

Then I realized exactly what gave, and kinda'... felt maybe a little silly.

I need social hobbies.
What counts? Th'town you're in's kinda' dead (well, barring the standard north florida stuff) outside the primary vacation times (and then no one sane wants to be anywhere near it :P), but I know th'capital has some interesting stuff off and on, if y'can make the trip.

Wait, wait. PC's on the other side of my place, so it's a two hour drive for yeh t'reach the capital. Hrm. Damn. Actually, outside of PC itself there's a bit of a deadzone around the place, far as I can remember. Maybe check and see if the college is doing anything interesting? Plays, concerts, so forth, so on. Guessing the standard stuff doesn't quite appeal, at least. If it's just get drunk and party there's plenty of that in and around th'joint... even moreso if you can stand bigots.

...that shoot bees from their mouths.
... why does this sound familiar?

The bee shooting honey badgers, specifically. I could swear I've seen that before. Possibly on this very forum.

So...he has a +50% (!) Amplify Damage (both magic and physical), a Purge that goes through BKB, a spell that creates two illusions of a target (so which scales with it) and cas be used either to disable an enemy or to save a teammate, and his shadow poison which can be used for a lot of things including checking Rosh safely. You look at that and you conclude "Most useless hero late game"? Really?
Pretty sure th'last bit was actually tongue-in-check :P

Going by the question marks, fellow was probably running into a lot of folks of questionable english fluency who were dissing hard on SD.

The lil'clone things 'is Q generates are kinda' amusing, too~

I mean, it's not like getting the enemy's carry (or your own, I guess.) worth of damage (plus a bit!) for a good eight seconds is a worthwhile thing, right? "Late game scaling? What scaling? I scale with you. Ohohoho."

I do wonder about the pugna thing, though. Innit shadow's amplify universal, not just magic? Annoying bit's getting it to land on anything useful, really...

But what comite would decide who qualifies as "a local badass?"
The Committee of Calculating Kickass.

Much later E: Actually, the "Committee Officiating the Calculation of Kickass" would probably would better, to continue the theme.

I've been developing a nihilist attitude since the dawn of September. I mean, why try to find love when you know it's just going to end someday, maybe 1 or 2 years? Why waste investing time on hollow things that just simply disappear if popped too hard?

Why try to keep pushing onwards, if onwards is really just going deeper into the rabbit hole without any profit of any form?
Just want to chime in that I've been mostly running off curiosity for better than a decade. There's always some new combination of concepts to look at or prod around, even if they're largely the same as other ones. Don't need some kind of grand attempt at making an impact or doing something important, personally (I internalized nihilism re: objective or [non-small scale] meaningful worth when I was like, twelve :P Dust to dust, et al.). Just something neat to poke at, and there's plenty of that running around. Gets me up in the morning, y'know? Incredible value dissonance with most of the local/national culture, but eh.

The better question is why in the world do people use the first names of the heroes mixed with the real hero names. It's confusing and the first names have to be dug out of the lore for those who don't know them.
It's... pretty obvious that people have defaulted to referring to the various heroes by whichever part of their name/title combination is easier to remember, shorter, or easier to turn into an acronym. I'm not going to call th'Earthshaker "Raigor Stonehoof", y'know? Too long, too meaningless; earthshaker's faster, more mundane, and (most importantly) more representative of what the guy does. Frankly th'guy's name sounds kinda' like some throwaway NPC mook.

I'm also not going to call Sven "Rogue Knight", or Huskar "Sacred Warrior". Their names are much shorter and their titles don't really say shit about what they do -- they're incredibly generic class names that don't really give a feel for the hero itself (so you can just as well refer to their names, y'ken?). Etc., so forth, so on. The varying sorts of reasoning applies to, well, all of them. There's not a consistent referral pattern because th'folks making DotA didn't do a very good job of having the stuff they call the heroes lend itself well to such.

The actual answer is a dremel... and a very, very steady hand. Then all it takes is a lil'flathead screwdriver and you're done!

Do note that not having a steady hand may resort in... shenanigans.

Here's at least one source. The google search that found it was "did nadar have a ticket debate" sans quotes, and throws up a number of other sources regarding the incident.

Here's what wikipedia cites as the source for Nadar being turned away. And here's the wiki page itself.

... what counts as Jewish for the purposes of the second coming, though? 'Cause I'm like, a sixth (which is more than needed to count as native american in the states, iirc) Jewish insofar as genotype goes, and there's no way in hell you're getting me to move to a desert. I imagine there's plenty of people in similar situations. Israel's in kinda' a shitty place insofar as geography goes, really. Too hot.

They can keep the holy litterbox, I'll be somewhere further north, probably in a bog, y'know?

I don't know who you are Knuth, but if you are alive and I ever meet you I am buying you a Guinness.
This guy? Still kicking, though getting on there.

If you were really shooting for it, you could probably buy up one of those online coupons or somthin' and e-mail it to the guy, iffin y'couldn't reach wherever he's at in person.

Ah, true. I am assuming he's got a loving family :(
Ngh. Even a loving family doesn't necessarily equate to one that's able to provide the sort of support necessary to get a person out of a depression slump, though. Not all loving aid is particularly helpful, y'know? Pavement of th'road to hell and all that rot.

Tell, that second bit makes my headache even worse. Is... is it supposed to be trying to rhyme?

E: Incidentally, naps really shouldn't make a person feel this goddamn miserable. Headache, bit of an acid problem, generally overheated... bleh. I hate biology with a passion, some days.
