General Discussion / Re: American Election Megathread - It's Over
« on: November 22, 2012, 10:26:01 pm »
There's absolutely nothing stopping third party candidates from getting their message out through the same channels that the main parties do.  The problem is that people don't give a shit about the message...
Nothing stopping them except the massive resource disparity between the two main parties (and their relative stranglehold of major media outlets, don't forget!) and every flipping body else, and the fact that our voting system basically actively punishes the voters in most areas for not "voting for the right one" -- by giving their vote to people they didn't vote for, amongst other things.

Don't get me wrong, your last bits are absolutely accurate, that any attempt at getting a third party through will take that kind of effort, but acting like there's no other -- and no other major -- barriers between a genuine third party attempt other than the effort is a huge misrepresentation of what's actually going down these days. I'm not even a "third party wannabe" -- I live in a state where it's only a half step from literally physically impossible for them to make in-roads rights now -- but that kind of message irks me, y'know? It's not "just get enough people together and working hard" -- it's "get enough people together and working hard in the face of massive opposition to any attempts to do so by the entrenched powers and the actual system itself."

And Misk, last I checked no one's been elected by an actual majority (let's go with 2/3rds and make it easy) of the whole population, or even the total voting population, for a long, long damn time. The folks that have been getting voted in are doing so generally scraping in barely a slightly larger plurality of the voting population. And yeah, yeah, you can say "well, people don't give a shit or whatev' so they're not voting" but I'd say that does a pretty damn huge disservice to a lot of people that don't or can't vote. Not all of them, no, but a lot of them.

Orks.
... I'unno, Orkz are more fungus than vegetable, right? Still sorta' under the plant umbrella, I guess.

Though, thinking on it, there... there's a lot of similarities, actually, between Orkz and Starbound plant people (cannibalism, aggression, tech thieves, green plant things). The latter are just bishie-esq. And apparently has actual genders Nevermind, blog post says unisex. Shoujou orkz? I can dig it.

Her, actually. The queen was bloated up to whale-like proportions by demons or something, so they figured "shrink down these guys and have 'em have at it."

Incidentally, the lady was unable to move after my party was done. Senile lecher man said it was because she was now too thin. "Honey, I think it's considerably more likely it's because we just fried like three-fourths of your nervous system and probably powdered a quarter of your skeleton to boot. It's a freaking miracle you're still alive, and every second of your continued existence is a bald-faced violation of the tenants of biology."

Which, coming from that direction... magilecher might actually be pretty impressive, just not in the way he thinks he is.

Ah, high fantasy liposuction. Where it's considered a good idea to have a senile old magical lecher shrink down a party of random adventurers and send them trumping around inside someone's body violently assaulting demonic fat cells. There's absolutely no way having little dudes causing earthquakes and firing off lightning storms and explosions in your cardiovascular system can possible go wrong!

Ahahaha!

What about the three eyed water people?
I like the three eyed water people!
Does no one else like the three eyed water people?
My like of the trioptic mammaryfishes is entirely conditional on if they come with appropriately adjustable eye-patch equipment. Variants for one, two, and three patches, as well as ones for the one and two patch variants that occasional change the eye(s) it covers, are necessary. Possibly with an appropriate adjustment animation, but inexplicable shifting is acceptable as well.

Then all that's left to do is steal a tricorn hat and a parrot from the humans, and I'd be in business.

Piratical walking titcarp, coming for your flashy baubles and women. It is a wonderful thing, eeheee.

Please don't tempt reality with words like that, Nadaka. "Couldn't" is a word the internet loves to spit on :-\

Well, the internet and, like, non-digital mediums, too. Whatev'.

Also you can never have enough pipes! WE NEED MOR PIPES
Indeed, we need more morpipes.

Morpipes are like morlocks: Strange, twisted pipes that grow underground for inexplicable reasons and occasionally devour the normal pipes you bury in the ground. Your standard morpipe is a five by three length that undulates softly and consumes passerbys with one of its seven gaping maws, but there's many variations of greater and lesser morpipes that have unique biologies (metallurgies?) and peculiar habits unique to their breed.

The naturalists have yet to find any particularly useful means of morpipe exploitation, but the local dockworkers immediately found it unutterably hilarious to toss the more flagrant criminals (and the occasional cultist) into a pit full of starving morpipes and watch the brass and copper fly. Morpipe fights are also a thriving underground betting venue, with the occasional highly successful contender breaking free of its constraints and eating a couple of blocks of the local city before someone manages to melt it into quietly writhing scrap.

General Discussion / Re: Things that made you sad today thread.

Speaking of which, just made the appointment to get a psych evaluation and see where I fall on the Asperger's spectrum. Not really sad about that, but the fact that they're already asking if I want medication management is unsettling. I'd rather not be drugged into social conformity, thanks.
Yeah... if their first reaction is medicate, you need to find a second opinion like the first one's on fire. If they're considering that before they attempt any sort of counseling, therapy, even seeing if there's an actual fucking problem... then they're probably not worth the toilet paper their degree is printed on, or at the very least don't actually give a shit about your mental health. "Drop th'bastards" would be my immediate advice, because that's a really bad indicator regarding the folks you're seeing's capability at their nominal job.

Psychoactive medication is the possible (and not always necessary or desirable!) diet part of a cognitive "diet and exercise". If any goddamn thing's saying you'll lose weight and keep it off without noting the latter's the part that actually freaking matters and attempting an exercise regimen first, they're trying to sell something only a half step from snake oil, at best. Same thing applies to mental health. Medication is the option of last resort for any psychologist worth a damn.

Yeah, now my brain is going to spend at least half the afternoon working primarily on how to combine kawaii catgirls and WH40K. The result will likely be....traumatic.
There's a couple pretty huge threads over on spacebattles related to stuff like that. Lovehammer, various sailor moon/WH40k xovers (some are pretty decent! SM's got surprising narrative possibilities, really.), etc., so forth. It's a common concept line, heh.

Huh. Trying to read that was actively causing my vision to blur. Space warping geometries say what?

Suddenly I want to write a story about a space navy made entirely of catgirls.
This would be a more amusing urge if it hadn't already been done. I'm fairly sure multiple times >_>
Wait, what? D:

Were said catgirls the genetically-engineered supersoldiers of mankind?
Hell, probably in one of them. Gods know there's probably some kind of freakish final fantasy sci-fi AU using Mithra as the primary naval force or something. Anthros get plenty of fiction space these days, really.

Like Karthus, yes. At least if you can land those damned dot (note, not DoT... until you apply the BFT, anyway) mine things. Which I seem categorically incapable of doing but anyway!

Anything that can poke with spells, really, just gets made worse. I mean, technically everything that the bloody item works off of gets made worse, but stuff that you're already using for poke/harass/etc. just becomes that, moreso. BFT's a fun little item, yo'.

BFT in TT in the current game definitely doesn't proc off Teemo's E. I checked repeatedly, because that would have been greeaaaat, eeheeeheehee. Now, it does proc off the Q, and the shrooms, and goddamn is Teemo a nightmare with shrooms that hack off a chunk of your max HP on top of everything else. But yeah, it procs off DoTs and AoE effects; supposedly something about it is halved when it does that (I think the tooltip may actually say duration, which is bonkers, so it's probably the percentile amount.), but that hardly bloody matters when every spell you throw out hacks off another additional 2.5-5% of their max HP.

It's pretty great! I wouldn't really consider Teemo or Singed the best target for it (Ziggs might be interesting! Anything with a nice chunk of long range/low CD or large AoE spell damage, really), but it certainly makes an already annoying champion even moreso.
