... I don't particularly like rap, but apparently rap in a vaguely british accent appeals to me on some level.

I guess it's a good thing I've managed another in-road into the generally impenetrable wall of shit that surrounds that genre like a tropical excretion storm.

Salad doesn't necessitate lettuce.

Frankly, it doesn't even necessitate vegetables. Apples and pears and bananas and lemons and oranges and... man, I don't know. Throw the whole fruit stand into a bowl.

... popcorn is the deadly wage of genetic sin?

Should is a strong word there.

If we can make fruit without seed, then it's arguable it should exist. What prevents it?

Though that's hilariously inverting the order (should entails can, not the other way around~) but whatever!

Genetic modification is baaaaad.
Why you hate dogs :(

Starcraft... about a year or so after its release, iirc. I think we did eventually upgrade to BW after a while. This was a bit back :P

And yeah Falc, that definitely sounds like a downgrade. Make learning a chore and it becomes one, etc., etc., etc.

A question at an NJROTC academic team match.
"How many grams of fat are in a baked opossum?"
Man, objection. That's not nearly enough information to be able to accurately answer the question. Baking time, preparation method, type or types of marinade... a lot can adjust that figure, I'd say.

The gifted program was pretty awesome, that's how. I'd blame my mother being the teacher, but it was pretty much along those lines before and after she was th'gifted teacher, and I didn't have much influence as to the subject matter.

Might have had something to do with the size of the program, I'unno. I think there might have been like ten students at the program's largest? Maybe fifteen some of the years I wasn't in the program, can't quite remember.

That... sounds like you might have a pretty terrible gifted teacher. Classes I went through... man, part of middle school was spent playing starcraft, in class, for class credit. Logic puzzles, art projects... lot of interesting stuff, most of it at a higher level than you'd normally be getting on that grade level, but it was pretty well introduced. Literature, you did stuff like discuss the elephant and the blind men thing and junk. I got to bring the pet boa constrictor to school once because of that class, due to a period that gifted lessons were rain forest themed. Was something similar for Egyptian mythology, several varying things like that. All in all pretty awesome.

A challenge needs to engage, not just stand there like a wall or a nuisance.

E: Teach might be heavily constrained by program guidelines or somethin', though. Forgot about that possibility; the teach I had going through the gifted program (mostly the same one for the whole time) had enough pull in the system she could mostly get what she wanted done, done.

But I've got at least two (including a nice -- in a relative sense -- hobo-jacket; the tarnish on the metal bits gives it ambiance.) that are already pocket festooned! I can't fit more than maybe two on me before they stop fitting on my arms!

... well, maybe more if I started tying them to limbs but that would get really awkward.

Anyway, cold keeps getting mentioned so I assume the lizard people my fellow floridians think Florida gets cold... somehow.

It doesn't get much colder, unfortunately. Might have one or two days where it hits 20-30F. At night. For a couple hours. And maybe a week or two where it stays in the 40-50s. If we're I'm lucky.

People keep gifting me jackets. I've got like five or six hanging up. Of which I actually use the light windbreaker, occasionally. I keep telling them, "This is Florida. It doesn't get cold enough to need one." But nooooo.

Just stood outside for about a half hour or so, I think. It feels incredible out there. ~50F (11C), very light breeze, incredibly clear and a full moon... s'just nice. Perfect for a short sleeved shirt and brief-equivalents (swim trunks, actually, but whatever). And apparently cold enough to make the bugs bugger off somewhere else. Just... pleasing.

Think I'm gonna' go back out. Maybe clean off a lawn chair or somethin'.

So does most of America. :P

What's your native natural disaster of choice?
Fire or flood, I think. The former's interesting and the latter's fairly easy to avoid (don't live in a floodplain isn't exactly rocket science.), and both can have potential agricultural benefits.

I kinda' enjoy hurricanes too if I'm several (dozen) miles inland, unless they start throwing up some tornadoes. Generally if you live a bit inland and have decent walls, they're not too bad. 20+ years of florida storms, still kicking with only a few trees uprooted and a couple holes in roofs.

That said, remembered have some fairly close family up in NYC, though I'm not quite sure where in the place. Maybe a lil'worried-ish now, on a level more personal than the whole "Sorry about you folks living on a coastline" bit.

Yeah... to the tangental mention of Piers Anthony, have a second fair warning that dude's a bit a pervert (or at least writes like one, heh), and it infests pretty much everything he writes. Near as I can tell, just about every single book or series he's had published (at least of the stuff I've read, probably a good 1/2 to 2/3rds of his bibliography, which is quite a bit) has at least one sex scene (usually more) in them, somewhere (including the Xanth series, which is ostensibly more child friendly.), and some of it can get a bit freaky (Firefly and Pornucopia, as examples, though everything else aside the latter has some pretty humorous scenes, at least as far as I got into it. Avoid Firefly like the plague.), even by my fairly lenient standards.

That said, he's fairly solid and the non-Xanth stuff that I've read is alright. I've got a bit of a nostalgia kick for the Adept series, Bio of a Space Tyrant has its up sides (Down sides including rape and incest, among other things :-\), several of the Incarnation books are kinda' interesting, he's done some decent stuff if you can stomach some of his literary tendencies or the subjects they hit on (The Mode stuff hitting on suicide and some pretty decently fucked up gender stuff, iirc, as a general example...).

Definitely not on the same sort of scale as LotR and related materials, though.

Seconding the Riftwar stuff. I've got a couple of the books laying around somewhere, remember them being pretty decent. Incidentally, Riftwar formed the lore background for Betrayal at Krondor, which is pretty neat in itself, or so I hear.

Sounds kinda' like Crimsonland, though I wouldn't call that one's graphics style similar to cannon fodder.

There is something a bit older of similar concept, but I can't recall the the name... give a mo' to do some searchin', assuming someone doesn't beat me to it. E: Alien Breed? That's a '91 one game, though... E2:Possibly this.

I guess the point being there's quite a few top-down shooters where you're fighting aliens and unlocking crap, maybe.
