whatever drugs you are doing...

stop.
But I'm not taking any!

I'm not the slightest bit arachnophobic, but that link still creeps me a bit.
Eesh, I don't think I'm going to look at dried/brown moss the same ever again. At the very least stuff that looks like that is now on my "Poke with stick before approaching" list.

That'd probably be more accurately ended with "Attract cannibal spider horde." Because if there's anything less desirable than a house full of spiders, it's a house full of spiders in the throes of a cannibalistic spider orgy.

In some cases, your best option is to simply light the place on fire and run screaming. Hopefully it'll do more than leave you with a cannibalistic flaming spider orgy-ball, rolling down your street and both setting everything on fire and poisoning everyone.

Katamari Spidercy reaches ignition. All hope is lost.

... buggery hell, if that's the good news, what's the bad? Because "more responsibility" is almost always bad news, from what I've seen. It's when it's accompanied by good news (i.e. an appropriate increase in pay, in your case) that it's not a terrible day.

Seriously though, is there no way you can go, "Hey, this is getting a little silly. Bring help or scale stuff back plox."? Sounds like they're trying to drown you.

E: Though, thinking on it, I guess working you harder for the same pay is good news... for your employer ::)

Armok no, now I'm imagining elven war-acrobats infiltrating a fortress.

Leaping down onto the battlements from their war eagles!  Some getting shot right out of the air, or missing their jumps and exploding on the ground beneath the walls!
The real question being if, with a sufficiently high skill, could they bounce themselves off of flying bolts? It'd be like one of those missile jumping scenes, only with crossbow bolts.

Then we just need a skill for catching projectiles, and you could have one insane mofo jumping from on high running along one stream of bolts and throwing all the others back at your dwarves. Suddenly melee combat would gain a significantly greater priority :P

So the presidential round two seems to be going on. Anything interesting, yet?

Overall pretty poor day, and the noisebox is on again, but...

... but damnit, this apple juice is delicious. I guess it's the small things, I'unno. I'm not exactly going to complain that this stuff is apparently an instant mood lifter, but maybe it indicates a certain degree of emotional shallowness.

Eh. Don't care, I guess. Have another drink, boys ♪

Ugh. I've been pseudo-taking care of newly hatched chickens (as a proxy for their owner, more or less) for the last day or two, and after getting a little advice from someone and doing a little net checking, it seems like said owner has basically no goddamn idea what they're doing. Area wasn't prepared, the current container is poorly considered, using poorly chosen food, poorly chosen water, they're not warm enough and there's not really any goddamn thing I can do about it, because I've got no cash (and, in strict honesty, this wasn't my damned idea and I really don't want to have to clean up after the proverbial mess. I'd just as soon feed the bloody things to the cats and make it quicker) or means to jury-rig something sufficient.

Thought process going into this was apparently:
  • Get incubator.
  • Get eggs.
  • Hatch eggs.
  • Put chicks in plastic box with grits and tap water.
  • Heat box by putting a blanket over the top.*
  • ???
  • Profit They all fucking die.
So the net results is about 36 hours after hatching, we've got two dead and one dying slowly, with the rest of them insufficiently heated -- I stuck a desk lamp in there until I can berate the owner to get the actual freaking heat lamp they need to not functionally freeze to death, but there's problems with that and gods fuck is this a mixture of depressing, stressful, and enraging. I don't usually mind lack of forethought or consideration when there's nothing living involved or the effects are limited to the individual in question, but when it's astronomically skyrocketing the chance of living things dying, it starts tweaking all sorts of latent rage and frustration buttons.

Let it be a lesson. If you're going to try to breed something, or raise kittens, or kids, or fucking whatever, do some goddamn research first.

Anyway. Owner's maybe an hour away, on the way back. I'm done. Washing my hands of it. I'll print out some basic instructions, I think, and then if the owner wants a dozen dead baby chickens, well, owner's bloody prerogative.

*Not going to fucking work because it's a plastic box on a hardwood floor and until I came in, noticed shit was going wrong, and mostly wrapped the box in some other stuff, was leaking heat all over the bloody place.

Bah! I reject your time zone magickery as an existent school. I've seen it not in the halls of chronomancy, nor in the manuals on technological time travel. Charlatan, your words are false!

Time zone would be utterly irrelevant, though. The forum adjusts the time whatever zone you set it. A post an hour and a half after a different post is still an hour and a half difference, regardless as to where the folks posting are.

Karne made the link at ~10 pm, GMT-6. Nadaka replied at 11:41 pm, GMT-6. Hour and forty minute difference. Little less. Technically something like 1:39:43. For Nadaka to have clicked the link forty-ish minutes before it was created takes more magic than time zones!

I wish to know the mechanics of this phenomena!

How? That link didn't exist two and a half hours before your post! There's only a roughly one hour and forty minute differential!

Nah, we actually seem to be pretty friendly and respectful of newcomers... when they meet certain pre-reqs. Capitalization approaching proper (or at least warning of ESL or somethin', yeah) and substantial posts placed in the right subforum, ah. Help. Just a titch :P

Especially to throw off the spambot accusations. Because I'm fairly sure I've seen four or five spambot posts near identical to the OP of this thread :-\

Checking ZK's posts, though, looks more like someone with english as a second (third, whatev'.) language seeing if they can settle in. It'll come, providing product placement doesn't mysteriously appear in ZK's sig, heh.

In incomplete ditty/limerick. In which the goose that lays the golden eggs gets dysentery. Can't really tell if the thought fits better in happy or wtf, but I'm more amused than anything, so...

Seems to be roughly what spelunky does, perhaps a lil'more sophisticated. Which... I'd call it boding well, so far as avoiding repetition is concerned.

Well often ways to make it less "repetitive" would be to allow more variety within the set patterns.

But given the game... my vote is that isn't going to happen.
Post, at least, did mention the generator's going to have the potential option of swapping around what goes where, at least occasionally. So it seems, at least, like it allows a good chunk of variety within the overall pattern, since the engine can swap around certain set pieces somewhat freely. At least conceptually, according to the blog post. Who knows how it works in practice :P

Interesting thing to me is that it looks like it'd be possible to create new rooms and such with flipping paint (the program, mind.), since the generator sounds like it's just parsing a specifically colored image. If adding that sort of material is as simple as making a little pixel stamp thing, that may be a pretty serious boon to ease of modding. Also could see stuff like adding in the mona lisa or whatev', by recoloring the thing. As a dungeon room.

Yeesh, not even a library or sumthin'? Supports my lean toward suicide before imprisonment a bit more. Sounds like one of the fastest ways in the world to drive me bugfuck insane. I get jittery if I don't have something to read for an extended period. Psychological addiction if there ever was one. Haven't gone more than a day or two, maybe three on the outside, without reading in, like, two decades.

I'd wonder if that means something, but... eh. It's an addiction I'm fairly happy to have, t'be honest. Might be able to get by if I could write, instead, but I haven't been forced to try, yet.

Voting's not a one issue thing, unfortunately, and gods only know if I had a legitimate third option I wouldn't be voting for either of the bastards running right now, but the system's mostly broke and, welp. Lesser of evils is still evil, but only stupid is certainly the lesser of insults spat out by the pair, if you're using personal slights as your heuristic for voting. Which would be a fairly odd thing to be using as heuristic but whatev'.

I prefer stated and demonstrated policy and while it's still pretty terrible in both cases, the distribution of terrible is different. I'll be voting for the one that least bothers me, y'know? Which is unfortunately Obama, since th'Reps decided to proffer up what's basically a caricature of the worst of capitalism and the income divide in our country :-\
