Nerve gas (think that's what it is, anyway) sufficiently cleared from house! I can come inside!

Just in time, too. Night starting to fall, which means the mosquitos get even more active.

Now I just have to clean up some dishes and have breakfast. Well, lunch, I guess. Breakfast was some leftover rice about... thirteen hours ago. Starting to get a lil'hungry. Food would be nice, but first have to make sure cooking it isn't going to poison me. More than the air already is, anyway (just a little!).

Bright side, fleas are probably dead now. If not, future post in the rage thread predicted.

... people give their actual information to those places? I don't think I've given factual personal information to something online... uh, ever. I've used other folks' actual information before (with permission, mind), occasionally gave factual information to things that would go on the Internet (college), and I'll give vague stuff out (north west Florida, etc... probably, anyway. Could be lying!) but never to anything online and never specific.

My first lesson about internet use, when I was like seven or eight: Never use your real name or address. Ever.

Squirrels bark. I had never really noticed. Huh. Always though that particular set of noises came from some bird or another, but nope. Neat.

Cockroach bigger than my thumb from the fucking sky, christos. Okay, probably the ceiling of the porch thing I'm lounging on until the bug bombs do their thing (two more hours!), but still, yeesh. Least it didn't land on me.

Dilemma. Three-four hours lounging outside in Florida heat, or >24 (Though <48) hours more or less stuck in a somewhat poorly ventilated building that contains within it a TV bigger than I am.

Currently leaning heavily toward sweat and mosquitos :-\

E: Mosquitos won out. Time to start the three hour free sauna~

At least it comes with Internet! If the wireless reaches the porch, anyway.

E2: It does! Now to "enjoy" Florida weather. So far, this looks to be fairly bearable. So long as you don't move, breath steadily, and are sitting besides a fridge full of cold water. And ignore the bugs.

Almost makes me see room for the thought of a "don't call up what you can't put down" movement type thing... if you can't effectively moderate a site, then why should control be allowed to remain with you? Which might be sorta' what the OP was thinking with that. A recognizable attempt that's ineffective is only slightly better than no attempt at all, perhaps.

It's still quite silly, but I can't almost see an inkling of sense in it. It is sorta' irresponsible to design or maintain a system you can't control. If it gets beyond one's ability to control (grows too large, moves too fast, etc.), then maybe one should shut down, abdicate, or find a way to redesign the system so it's manageable?

... there's usually a specific volume control program. Most of the windows computers I've dealt with, it's sndvol32... guess it might be 64 for a 64 bit system, I'unno. Anyway, you should be able to just run (windowskey+r, run on the start menu, taskmanager file -> run, sndvol32.exe, hunt it down in the system folders, etc.) that if the task bar thing is giving nuisance.

If th'OP's accurate, WB has rights to video game adaptations; which is to say anything that's adapted to video game format, not from.

As I understand copyright, no, they don't really stand to gain anything from pushing against the mod, but they may stand to lose something if they don't. Namely the copyright, as if you don't attempt to prevent unofficial adaptations (that are outside stuff like fair use, et al, which the transformative arts group mentioned in the link is attempting to fight through usage of) then you run the risk of losing said copyright.

That's why you see things like this mod shut down, because if the rights holder doesn't defend their lawful right, they can apparently be legally be stripped of it. Don't know the legal particulars of it, that's the gist as I've learned it. Blame copyright law first, the company forced into distasteful action second :-\

*vague shrug* From what I understand, if they don't fight for it (the copyright junk), they've got a chance of losing it. Which means they have to at least go through the motion of legally prosecuting those who ostensibly infringe.

I've never quite figured out why they (not just WB, but major rights holders in general, since there's been several majorly impressive projects that got C&D'd to varying levels of effectiveness.) don't just greenlight projects like this (free publicity, good PR move, potential monetization later on), but I guess (/hope, because otherwise...) they've got some kind of reason for it.

As for the mod itself... I don't really expect anything but a shutdown. It's happened pretty much every other time something like this has happened, so I don't see it going differently in this case :-\

But maybe not! Maybe they'll be able to fight it, and manage some precedent setting that opens up some older projects to release. That'd be awesome.

Even the 1976 RNC was a good example, when Reagan waged an inurgency against Ford. Failed to get him on the ticket, but it set the stage for him in 1980.
Sooo... only three decades and a little change? Six, seven primaries, something like that?

Good information, though, and I welcome a better informed viewpoint greatly, heh. Guess what I was thinking was that th'kind of behavior we saw is just sorta' the new face of the beast, or the face of the new beast, anyway. GOP's changed, etc., etc. Face of politics in general (in the states) seems to have turned for the worse in the last couple decades (steady-seeming decline since I was aware enough to notice, anyway), really. Hopefully it's just a temporary thing, and maybe it's still roughly following the historical pattern of things, but... suppose when you're in the recession, so to speak, it's hard to see anything but the recession.

"Chance in the future"... history of American political scuffles (especially the conservative bits of 'em :-\) not exactly being my strong point, was there a point in the last few decades where there was a chance? Seems like this may be a shift toward the more blatant, but still be kind of standard operating procedure.

Word you're actually looking for is "human". Maybe caveated with "past puberty". Both genders are impeccably dirty minded. At most, it's just somewhat more socially acceptable for males to be more overt about it.

... it takes considerably more than mere submersion to put one off of delicious maple syrup. Much, much more. Even a little drowning is insufficient, though that may require medical assistance to get the stuff out of your lungs.

Still not enough. Syrup is a thing of the gods, and its addictive nature is representative of that.

I'm not sure quite what it would require, really, and the only thing my mind seems to be attaching to as possibilities involve crystalized syrup and a violation of the forum's guidelines.

Hey, nice. Did it get recorded? If so, can watch?

Carmen Sandiego definitely stole the syrup :P  That sounds exactly like something she would steal.
And let's be frank. Carmen has already rendezvoused with Waldo and we're never going to see that syrup again.
