Struck a bit of a chord for me, too. Nothing like showing off nothing but worst case scenarios and wrapping it in a viciously sexist package to make me want to twig out a bit against rabid anti-religious folks. And I am someone who's near-rabidly opposed to religious organization. That doesn't mean I spew that kind of vitrol out, though. Bloody well unconstruive, it is. If you can't dissuade others from religious leaning, then better to guide them toward the benevolent practice of faith rather than attack and make them react with hostility. As per shit like that, ngh. That's not the face of good faith.

Never disrespect the enemy, for that is the first and most fundamental step on the path of being surprised by them, to one's own detriment. Proper strategy requires you to know both yourself (your position) and your enemy (other positions)... and the latter as you know yourself. Through this, you need not fear the results of a thousand battles.

Suddenly very minor sad that clocks don't go to 67 seconds... and that hours don't go up to 45 in a day. Then my time logged in to b12 would have be able to hit 1234567 in a day and a bit. Mumble mumble. Mumble. Midnight brings odd downs. Probably exaggerated by losing two or three hours of precious actual!computer time today, I guess.

It's that thing that can get you failed out of a class if you don't pay attention to it. Having one is either a really good or really bad sign. Not having one says either terrible things about the class, or terrible things about the teacher.

Anyway~

If you're not just joshin', some teaches only let you miss a certain number of days (especially if you're lacking a legit reason for it) before they start lopping off chunks of your grade. Attendance policies lay out the details. And peng, just make sure the school itself doesn't have a base one before you start blowing it off :P

At least you know for sure it won't work now, Shad. At least just heinz. Who knows what adding something else on top of it might do, or changing the way it's cooked into the french toast. Sometimes what doesn't work the first time, does with a few tweaks.

TV evangelical shows. In other room. "The father brings order, the mother brings nurturing *continued bullshit along those lines*"

* Frumple's single-mother gender-equality-emphasis temper goes "snap".

Goddamn things are already a paragon example of the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah, and now shit like that. Wish I could strangle. Wish I could strangle. Fuck pacifism, t'hell with non-violence, these asshats make me want to crush windpipes.

On the bright side, sorta', at least they provide a constant and perfect example of how not to minister. Damned moneygrubbing filth.

I just committed some unforgivable sin when it comes to guns, didn't I.
Not one you really have to care about. For folks that don't actually have much interaction with guns, the difference between the two things is largely irrelevant.

Sorta' like calling a pistol a gun, I guess. One is for fighting, one is for fun, etc., so forth. Normal person probably won't care or know enough to differentiate, and insofar as they're concerned, it doesn't really make a difference.

@Ship: ... who are you quoting? And... most of that's arguable. Has been argued, too. Are you trying to say anything particular or just throwing it out there?

Last bit is particularly annoying, though. To say no theologian, no founder of religions thought of that spiel -- the sheer ignorance of that statement. It's galling. Theology has been aware of that line of thought for millennium. Fairly sure it was one of the points directly responded to by... Aquinas, I think? Maybe Augustine. The later of the two, anyway. Pretty sure it was one of those, in this question/answer type dealio th'fellow did that's pretty well known. Something close enough in concept to fit, anyway, if my memory's not failing me. Which it might be, but still. Saying modern theologians aren't aware of the implications of Nietzsche is just... gah. Gah, I say.

Human society would be biased towards two sexes since we only have two sexes?  ???
Pretty sure we sorta' have more than two, actully. The rest are just rare and usually sterile, iirc, or at least have various complications with reproduction. Might be misremembering exactly how those oddities are categorized, though. XXYs and junk, however that goes.

"My beliefs don't make sense, but his make even less sense!"

Well okay. I can't argue against that. But still, not the strongest argument :D
It's a strong argument when there's not a choice of "makes sense"... just varying levels of not making sense.

If there's no good (not in the moral sense, here, but rather good as the desirable), then your best position is to maximally minimize the bad. Least of all possible evils, etc.

S'far as my personal metaphysical aesthetics go, that's the ideal. Occam's dingy (can't remember if it's the actual formulation of the Razor or something else the guy said, eh): Multiply our entities to the most minimal extent possible. Find the answer that is least bullshit, because you're not going to escape the bullshit :P

It's mostly the addict part, I think. There's an assumption that anyone who would chemically addict themselves to a harmful substance for any reason but medical necessity is, well. Stupid isn't quite the right word, but it's a peculiar sort of short-sighted that would generally preclude concern as to how badly drug X plus drug Y would fuck them up. They're already screwing themselves over, so what's a bit more...?

A different question would be, of the users you do know, do a majority of them actually have knowledge of potentially harmful interactions (especially for reasons beyond unfortunate direct experience)? If not, how large of a minority does? A statistically supported assumption is still an assumption (and able to be incorrect), but if you're looking for a reason why people assume that and most users you know fit that assumption... So far as personal interaction goes, m'self, while I've met a few (willing to acknowledge it) users that are fairly on top of things (to the extent they're able to be), most of the ones I've met are... not quite that concerned, to say the least.

All that's being charitable though, probably. It's most likely an immediate assumption that drug addict == idiot scumbag. Or something. Maybe it's only like that for the ones that get caught, I'unno.

Cyber tentacles, my dear fellow. I've always wanted a prehensile tail, but why stop with that? Dendrites! 40k promises me dendrites! And japan promises even more. Kekeke.

I wouldn't mind having a tiny crane coming out of my shoulder. I'm not sure what I'd do with it, or how I'd reinforce my frame to be able to support it, but I think it'd be neat.

As for volunteering, hell, ask around. They've been doing tests on stuff like that for several years now. Though you might have to actually lose the limb before they could test it. Still... if you're willing to go that far...

There's an easy way to solve this conundrum, and we only have to skin two people to do it. Shall we, gentlemen?

Not actually saving money, either. If he was trying to do that, he would have told the meal plan to shove it and scoped out the local grocery stores. Vending machines are overpriced... always.

I'm still not entirely sure how they enforce that mandatory meal plan thing. I dodged it by transferring in as a sophomore (sorta'), but I can't help but wonder what they do if you just say, "No, I don't want to overpay for food. Sorry." I mean... they're still getting the housing cost, after all. Would they really hardball it (losing the housing entirely) if you threatened to house elsewhere instead of paying for the plan?
