Other Games / Re: Are statistics ruining fps gameplay?
« on: August 06, 2012, 11:00:58 pm »
Initially, yeah.

Anyway, not much to say about stat tracking. Honestly, multiplayer games in general -- including in the flesh ones -- have a general tendency to just have a really shitty atmosphere for folks that aren't exactly hypercompetative, or are even remotely sympathetic to their fellow man. Good sportsmanship has always been a bit of a farce, extending back into perpetuity, so far as I've been able to tell.

S'always assholes ruining other peoples fun for whatever reason. Most stat tracking does is give 'em another thing to harp on, really. I just make myself comfortable with whatever /ignore feature games have and don't use VoIP. Not that I could anyway, lacking a microphone, but whatever.

Maybe share? Incidentally, is there some kind of link repository for competitive stuff, maybe even somewhat organized? It's kinda' fun to watch, but being stuck on an iPad it's hard to really navigate YouTube, and most other online stuff just doesn't work (no flash :-\).

Which honestly sounds like the sort of thing the folks that'd do it anyway would consider a bonus.

... didn't know you talk to either dead people or diviners. If the latter and they're that good, can you find out what number two is, and why curiosity's number one?

Mobile's smallest is this, I think. Then if you really want it smaller, zoom out, I guess.

Alternately you can nab up one of the fanfic downloader proggies that export to html and just adjust the browser font. Can probably do that anyway if you set the webpage settings to user or whatev'. Did that with firefox when I wanted my soothing grey text on dark blue background and size twenty or so font.

Religion wise, I'm shifting my vote to nargarglelism until we've killed at least three other civs, or are one of the last five remaining, then transition to voodoo. I think slavery'd be fine as long as we just don't use the buildings -- use it primarily to generate slaves, or just sacrifice a specific town (maybe just the new one, if it'd contribute sufficiently just pulling in the special resources) or another to slavery buildings.

Last (/second) meal today is two chocolate chip muffins. Omnomnom. Shame there won't be any left for first meal tomorrow.

Other Games / Re: Airmech- An online free RTS/MOBA game!

Overall, I love this game, it's got enough strategy elements to keep me thinking, while at the same time, it's casual enough that I don't get stressed out. This game is a great way to introduce people into the RTS genre, also.
Fitting, considering the extent it's patterned after Herzog Zwei :P Actually was pretty stoked when I first saw Airmech... enough I threw up a thread a long ways back, heh.

But yeah, was sorta' in the beta, except th'computer I have access to can't run it. I'll have to see if the current release'll work.

Hrm...? Yeah, hauling everyone up to first world level infrastructure and methodology is (very much) arguably about the best thing we could actually do, if helping our fellow man was our core goal in foreign aid (also arguable, on the political level). Most of the problems they're having would be mostly solved if they could sustain the same sort of stuff us first world bastards are using to keep ourselves on top.

Chances of that actually happening are goddamn jack zero, because there's absolutely zero chance in hell the dominate political entities are going to help other ones come closer to matching them, especially when that selfsame action would be removing part of the massive exploitation that makes the current first world possible. *disgruntled shrug*

They'll sit there with a laughing smiley overlaid on them and play the character's laugh sound every time you try to click on them, that's what.

What... what happens to the slave specialists if/when you change to a non-slavery civic? Because if they like emancipate and convert directly to population that might be kinda' awesome.

Not many, anyway. Things never got full physical for me (but ah, the psych problems of spending over two decades in effectively hostile territory, among other things), but I've damn sure been through and seen enough that comprehension is close enough to total y'can't tease it apart. Probably helps (in some sick sense of the word) that several of the folks I've interacted with closer than normal have been through some goddamn sick shit, I guess.

Seriously, though, I've been through a few pysch classes... that sort of lack of recognition is completely inexcusable for someone that has ostensibly passed even a bachelor's in psychology, especially with a focus in medical/psych health studies, never mind actual field work or higher levels. Someone fucked up, and I'd give strong odds on it being the student, given how accessible a lot of psych studies are with academic access.

Do science. With lasers.

I wonder if scientists ever stop and look at what they're doing and realize: "Holy shit. We're building a robot to send to a planet a million miles away so that it can vaporize rocks and analyze their composition."
Dude(tte), they totally, totally do. The sheer wizardry of what they do is how they manage to bull through the near infinite mind-numbing tedium and minutely varying repitition that makes up the bulk of the science magic.

According to the g+ stream, Curiosity has a camera capable of 10 fps on it.
Quick sciencebot! Find the dong stone and move your view up and down! Mars must have happy fun time, ahahaha!

No, wait, whatamisayingohrightitisoneam. Do appropriately sciencey stuff instead, mighty sciencebot. Bring us pretty pictures and data that means nothing to me beyond "implied awesome".
