If the hexes kind of bug you, why not turn them off?
I play with 4-direction movement.
I feel that it's an important part of the game. It's unique, and unique games are more fun than standard roguelikes. I'll probably go to the 4-directional, though, because the hexes are harder to use.
Not
unique, technically, but certainly uncommon. There's a handful of other hex-based roguelikes, it's just not exactly a regularly utilized design decision... you can kinda' see why, heh. S'bit harder to maneuver and operate, though I guess if you swapped control scheme to hjkuinm or something freaky like that it might be easier to move around, I'unno. Don't remember if the game'd support something like that.
Actually don't remember how the hex mode worked at all, because hex based games that aren't mostly mouse controlled are something that hurts my brain...
and mouse controlled roguelikes are something that hurts my wrist. Changing to... ort? Oct? One of those two, anyway... was my second action after starting my first VoI game, heh.
Indeed it seems to keep crashing... And it seemed OK the last time I tried. Strange.
Sorry about that. I'll try to fix this later, but unfortunately I am quite busy now...
Hey, don't worry too much about it taking a while. We're not exactly paying customers
