Yeah, the occasional expert+ run I've been doing for quests tends to rank a bit higher, despite my tactics not changing one wit. Comes from m.missile not instagibbing everything it hits (and sometimes everything behind whatever it hits, too). Normal's still kinda' silly, but I guess I'm not exactly far yet. Only level thirteen, heh.

Do wonder if all the other classes have a "walk through early game by spamming this and only this" skill. Because the mages do. It's borderline farcical.

Am wondering what my next skill should be, though. Tried Pluto so far, and compared to m.missile it's a bit of a joke.

That makes me feel better about nuking everything till it explodes, then. Danke :P

Okay, so... newbling tips? Currently I'm kinda' looking at the ranking system for dungeons like it lost its mind.

I understand how to keep it high (and can generally do >90% without particular effort), but what I don't understand is if keeping it high is worth not playing (what seems like) optimally for a mage of my level (9 or so, now), i.e. turning the screen into an impromptu danmaku level via magic missile machine gun spam. Because missile spam is somewhat more enjoyable that xxa or xxxs-ing my way through each individual monster. Also ridiculously faster.

Just general suggestions would be nice. No clue what I'm supposed to be keeping an eye on or aiming for, other than "more dakka." Should I just be ignoring finesse and blowing everything to hell or is there a point to doing things more methodically in this early phase?

Both the kitten and myself enjoyed the process (glasses!), and the dog didn't mind. Enjoyment spread without harm = good!

Not the "worst" but those god damn things are creepy as hell and can stay elsewhere....[shiver]
Yeah... as worst bugs go, I'd probably nominate either the bed bug E: Actually, there's several species that reproduce in the same way ("traumatic insemination", which is more or less exactly what it says on the tin), which pretty much annihilates the possibility of a kind and loving (at least by any human conceptualization of the term) creator deity.

... or the various wasp species, both sets strictly because of their reproductive methods. G'damn horrible no matter how you cut it, from a human perspective.

Two good deeds of the day: Coercing a kitten into attacking my eyes (I have now learned they apparently view blinking as some sort of dark magic), and convincing same kitten to gnaw on a dog's arse for about 30 seconds straight. The anthropomorphized mental image of that latter scene is both hilarious and disturbing!
 +2 amusement gained!

Yeah... big boat is different thing. River boat's not that expensive to have/maintain, as things go, and the only big things you have to worry about is "bullfrogs", which generally leave you alone, and snakes falling from trees into the boat. Depends on the area, but around here there's a number of public landings that don't involve docking or anything like that. Just drive the boat trailer into the water, get the thing loose, and off you go.

99% certain netstorm isn't what's being asked about. There was a circa-90s action-ish game that actually had you fighting flying islands in a kind of first/third person view, iirc. Never actually played it, but I saw a few ads and suchlike. Can't remember the name, and I've been trying to for years now, though not actually going and looking for it

Netstorm's all kinds of awesome, though. Free nowadays too, I think.

E: Might be Stratosphere.

The giant bullfrog the drunk idiot driving the thing is about to attach the boat to with a pointy piece of metal. Bullfrog does not appreciate this, and is larger than the boat.

It's been mentioned. Also melons of a particular name I've forgotten. Want to say it sounded something like manga, though.

Itnet, you just babbled about what a lot of fanfiction explicitly does :P

Some's even pretty impressive!

... which one is that? I'm guessing either the assassin or the gryocopter, and that's partially only because I don't remember what the gyro does. Still. PA was kinda' fun in pub games earlier in DotA lifespan. Dunno how useless the UI in 2 will make max level blur, but it was kinda' hilarious back in WC3. Didn't do much against folks that knew about it and how to deal with it, but those that didn't... heeheehee.

E: Huh. Looks like blur's effect was nerfed at some point during the period I didn't play DotA. Used to just make you flat-out transparent when maxed out, seems to only be eighty percent nowadays.

I... think so. It does set the resolution to something rather small before actually functioning. Since it ran decently without tinkering, I haven't checked what kind of options exist to be screwed with, yet.

Seems I'll be giving this a try, after all. Playing will be incredibly spotty, but I've tried a little and liking what I've seen, so far. JackThejil, currently level 3 mage. Thinking of aiming for either summoner or witch, hum.

Unless scorps got a heavy hit while I wasn't paying attention, if you've got some excess spellpower I'd echo scorps as a pretty solid screening spell. Just don't use it in a corridor. The occasional hostile scorp is 100% gauranteed to spawn blocking your escape if you cast it in a corridor :-\

In an open area all that happens is your friendlies murder the hostile one and go about their business, about 75% of the time on the first turn postsummon. They're kinda' flimsy, but tougher than spammals and more numerous than ice beasts. Not a bad spell if you've got the power behind it to kick up the numbers.
