General Discussion / Re: Things that made you go "WTF?" today o_O

Profit's not really enough to help out the local area... th'profit'd gotta' get back into the local economy somehow to cause any kind of benefit. Which... I'm not really sure how casinos do that. Some via employees, but that's not really included in the profit aspect, is it?

Mostly kinda' wondering how the logic works, though. You've got a economic downscale issue and the solution is... apparently to suck funds from the wider populous and concentrate it into an entity that's largely going to be taking money out of the local economic system. Not, y'know, improving education or stimulating industrial or medical fields, improving infrastructure, doing stuff to get money moving around again (ala your low cost housing suggestion; less paid for rent is more moving around). No, no, it's apparently theft by statistics (or profitable entertainment, depending on how you look at it).

The next question is how easy is it to track the kickbacks Cleveland's political/legal structure is getting out of it, and just how large they are to entice people into doing shit so blatantly stupid. I guess some gambling addictions might boost the local psych places up a bit. Which... I guess that's something! Bright side *rainbow*

Dual-wield spiked chain, maaan. It's hilarious cheese once it gets off the ground. It's like... take that one spikey blender. And then add another. It's just great.

Kobolds can't do it without some size manipulation, though. Which is actually pretty easy to pull off -- level of zurvash priest, ferex, or anything else with the might (or maybe it's strength, forget at th'mo) domain. Then that size boosting persistent buff. Suddenly, you qualify for monkey hand dual-wield, and things are wonderful.

I usually build it with humans, though. It's pretty feat heavy to get really sexy.

Springs are pretty okay too, and still fairly easy to check for snakes and bullfrogs -- the former even tends to stay away because springs tend to be effing cold. Which is pretty great when it's like 110 in the shade and -buggergod- percent humidity.

Never seemed to manage to get sick from pools, though. Sunburnt to hell a few times and feverish because of that, but nothing worse. Mind you, a fair percentage of pooling comes from a family owned one, so...

I'll give this, though. The sound of surf is very relaxing, and sea breeze is infinitely goddamn better than swamp coagulation.

Anyway, I like pools. Nice, clean pools where I can check for snakes and jellyfish and bullfrogs (not actually bullfrogs, but that's where the boat phobia came from~*) before swimming around in them for hours. Rivers and ponds are nice, but harder to check for snakes and bullfrogs, though the former is much more worrisome.

*Boats of any size has my hindbrain gibbering that there's something in the water bigger than the boat and some goddamn drunk idiot is going to stick a pointy piece of metal into it and both piss off said thing and connect it to the boat simultaneously. It's not my happy place :P

Wait, the talk of our jellyfish being perfectly harmless? o_O?
Talk of enormous poisonous things in a biome where I cannot do anything including breathe, that would probably be happy to eat me whole. Unlike Janet, who would at least cook me up first.

I'll stick with the lakes.
It was when I was like five or six. Either of us would be larger than that particular jellyfish actually was, but tell that to the hindbrain. They're pretty bloody rare close to the coast, anyway, the bigger ones. Just... go swimming when the tide is out. And get out before it starts coming in. That'd probably help. Most jellyfish are pretty passive, not really a problem unless there's, y'know, several hundred in the water with you making a nettlely poisonous minefield.

25745
I've personally yet to be stung, but every single other person I've been to beaches with has been, at least once. Mind you, that's only like twenty or so, but still. Not good odds, heh.

Came pretty close, though, when I was much younger. Tide came in, many hundred jellyfish came in with it. Freaked the fuck out a little~ Parent that was out there with me got stung getting me out, heh.

There was a jellyfish in that water that was larger than I was at the time. Never been terribly comfortable about the ocean since then. "There's poisonous things in there bigger than me," gibbers the hindbrain.

Been eyeing this up for a while. I didn't find the demo that good, but my friends assure me it's the bees knees. Opinions?
If you've got a computer that can run it, I hear good things. I've got the game, but have yet to own a computer capable of running it :-\

Maybe try Spring, see if you like that -- SC is supposedly a spiritual successor to total annihilation, so if you like the latter, you'll probably get some enjoyment out of the former.

Forget how it stacks up to the sequel, though.

I hate swimming at the sea. Salt, sand, dirt.
You forgot the jellyfish and reflected sunlight <3

I actually heard the latter definition (Primarily rule by fear) used a few times by professors, though ones that had a fair bit more european influence than a lot of states-side folks. I'd wager the lack of major presence of that definition in America is due largely because allowing it to spread around means that people start (accurately) labeling large swaths of the American political and media dialogue as fascist in nature.

Which... I've had a WWII vet (one of my professors) tell me there is some damn disconcerting parallels between the US now and the fascist nations during and before WWII kicked into full gear.

Just keep a fairly strict "No ad hominim" rule. That's a fair amount of what b12 does, from what I've seen, and seems like a fairly effective moderation tool. Attacking ideas or positions is mostly fine, but keep attacking the people involved out of it, etc. It's not a very hard rule to keep to, nor is kicking out its violators something that's likely to damage the community much, if at all.

Rule #1: Keep things civil.
Rule #2: Keep things safe for work.
Rule #3: Keep things legal.

Done.

Half protoss, maybe. He'd probably have been more impressive thus far if he'd been part Zerg.

I'll throw in for this, heh. Thanks fir the opportunity, LC. E: And with that typo, we should totally mandate one tree pun per entry, huhuhu.

How do law enforcers determine what beliefs are both religious and sincerely held, anyway? I'm not entirely sure how you'd identify either, unless you discriminate based on organization size in the case of the former and just take people's word for it in the latter case (which would be hilarious, in a sense.). "Why yes, your honor, it is my sincerely held belief that employees should not receive benefits, safe working conditions, or a living wage."

Dry cat food works fine, but... cats are carnivores. Not omnivores. Usually if they're eating actual vegetation, they're sick, same as dogs. Have no idea if some kind of processed vegetable diet can function well for them, but I'd be somewhat surprised if it were possible. You might be able to buy live mice or rats ala snake feeding if you don't want to support the primary livestock industry, though. Probably be a bit messy and I have no idea what kind of feeding intervals that'd take. It'd be pretty bloody expensive, though. E: Missed the verification bit, sorry. Only backup I can provide is anecdotal, but I've had cats fairly consistently for a couple of decades now. Ask the vet when you take 'em in, they can give you a more qualified opinion.

As for neutering, it can change things up a bit with behavior, but if you don't do it, you can expect a litter every year or so, per cat (unless you very carefully keep them inside), which... adds up. Quickly. Especially if you don't already have a good idea of what to do with the excess. You don't have the space or resources to keep up with cat output, especially if something isn't killing off parts of the litters. No, I don't know your particular situation, but it's fairly irrelevant. DF catsplosion is only somewhat exaggerated.

As for indoor/outdoor... there's, uh, not really a kind of breed specification re: that, so far as I know. If you keep them indoor, they're a bit less likely to disappear some day, but that entails some extra effort (litter box(es), oi.). It's a matter of preference and cat personality.

Collar can serve two primary purposes beyond decoration -- they can hold a tag with owner information and they can be a flea collar. Flea collar tends to be a bit less effective than specialized medication, but it helps. As for toys, ehn. They don't need them, per se, but they don't hurt. You can improvise cat toys pretty easily (Feather on a stick? Feather on a stick. Ponytail? Ponytail. So on, so forth.).

Orcs make solid Druids, yeah, especially considering Druids are the most direct-combat capable of the main casters. Druids just by themselves are pretty ridiculous, though, even if you're not cheesing earth meld. They've just got a very effective spell set and a lot of advantages. They arguably make the best alienists, too -- summoned animal companion synergizes best with pseudonatural, simply because they can't generate with a weapon and lose out on the extra natural attacks. It's pretty deadly.

For early game throwing shenanigans, though, all Druids have access to that throw fire whatsit straight from the first level. It doesn't seem that impressive, until you realize your animal companion gets a stack, too. Buggers basically machine-gun the things, t'boot. Iirc, I once killed pretty much everything down to like the sixth level just spamming those everywhere. Two critters tossing an unending stream of fire at everything is somewhat effective :P

And yeah, re:shapeshifting, there's a couple of mythical forms, later in the game, that have outright disease immunity if you don't feel like investing in wilderness lore. I don't think I've tried cheesing Orc devouring via animal companion before, though. Won't in the future either, but it's a nice trick. Did use 'em to get ridiculous piety from the multitude once, heh. Pretty sure that ranger won :P
