Vague curiosity, but no chance of being able to just jack the computer into your TV? Right kit would let you do that fairly easily, I think, if the TV's compatible with it.

Mind you I'm not sure of the details involved (never bothered trying, m'self -- don't own a TV) but I know a fair amount of folks that do just that.

Alternately just haul monitor+computer into other room :P

Violently annoying voice :-\

Seriously though, is it just supposed to be an <Insert Nightmare> type thing or does it actually have meaning? Inquiring minds want to know!

... did you read the article Siri? Folks are taking it to the court. Folks are raising awareness on the issue. Some are still trying to get new voters in, yes, but some can't afford to get over the new hurdles. This isn't a refusal for those ones, it is an incapable. There's a difference. They're fighting in other ways, but that particular avenue is blocked to them.

Wait, wait. What?

Fish is meat. BBQ without meat leaves only plant-things.

Grilled potatoes is great though, yeah, and various breadthings is wonderful.

Point being that permadeath isn't a necessary condition for a roguelike, just a highly sufficient one. Varying procedural bitsies is generally a bigger deal.

Quick E: And seriously though, OP, do you have any coding base yet? Any mechanical aspects implemented? Content is generally a much smaller hurdle than engine and we'd have a lot easier time helping you along if we had a better idea what sort of mechanical restraints we were operating under.

Ostensibly to protect the composition of whatever the hell they're shoving into the earth to get gas to come out, so that competitors don't steal the (presumably "better") formula. E: I... may be responding to the wrong thing. Whee! Re: Law preventing telling people, jabberjabber is.

Realistically, it's probably because whatever the frak they're frakking with is horrific and health destroying and they don't want it to become public knowledge/heavily researched because then laws would spring up stopping them from doing it (or they'd get lynched. Either/or.).

... basically it is a dystopian coverup. PR backlash in 3... 2... ohwaitgays! Distraction! Newsnewsnews, etc., so forth, so on. Mumblemutter.

Basically there are six elements arranged in a circle, magicians specialize in one element but can team up with other magicians specializing in different elements to produce weird effects, and if you get all six elements together it produces "blood" or "life" magic.
... Captain Planet?

They're mostly amoral sadistic hedonists, at least for a fair while. Like cats, yeah. It's not a long path from that to supervillainy, really.

Does a bit over 315,000 words count as lengthy?
Touhou/Zero no Tsukaima Xover, for reference.
:(

Already had that open in the tab horde. Had read a few chapters into it, got distracted, then read pretty much all the other ZnT crossovers (that I hadn't yet read... and some I had. Hill of Swords *fistshake*). Going to start back over... soonish.

Would have been more amusing without the genderswap, but eeehhh. Reading est.

Yo', yo', 'sup.

Roguelikes without permadeath... T4 has it, in one of the difficulty modes (Explorer) and a limited lives scheme in the default difficulty mode (Adventurer). Gearhead 1 has it, period, GH2 has it in a bit more limited manner. Dreadmore allows for it, yes. There's several more, but those are the big ones I can actually remember right now.

And yeah, several of the Mystery Dungeon games don't indulge.

... is it lengthy? Can you safely name it? Don't hold out :P

Frumple needs fic fix. No, the fifty or sixty I've got open and am psuedo-reading (little here, little there, etc.) don't count.

"Free money for the rest of our lives!"

"No, no, that's a terrible idea. Let's have a considerably smaller lump sum now so we can spend it all and run the ever present risk of growing old in poverty."

"Oh... yeah, you make a good point. That's do that instead! Live the dream!"

*facepalm*

Careful with that inclusive boya. I'm above the curve in tech savvy and I still spend at least a good half hour or so a week (often more) boggling at the sheer godlike power we now tote around with regularity.

Amazing is amazing regardless as to how common it is, at least if you have a degree of perspective.

You have to learn The Pledge, Two Songs, Every president, Every 50 States and their capitals, as well as learn why America is cool and why they saved everyone in every war single handedly.
And we forget every last bit of it within a year or two of leaving high school... if not sooner. If we even remember it for more than a weekday or two after the last time the school tests us on it. If we even attempt to pass said bloody tests to begin with. Etc., so forth.

We should change it to swearing at the Bible. That would make things much more entertaining.

Unless the meaning of pi was changed, of course. What pi is currently describing wouldn't change, but the mathematical system it fits in and the definition of the word (or symbol, if you prefer) pi could change quite easily.

Yeaaah... america being america, I'd just kinda' note that just about everything that's being said for/against short-range jamming devices (so far) can be applied pretty directly in relation to firearms.

Mostly just noting that "potential for abuse" isn't exactly being consistently applied in this country. Whatever reason we've been (ostensibly) using to determine personal use laws, it's probably not that -- or at least a potential for abuse problem isn't sufficient in itself to restrict access.
