Of course not! That'd defeat the point.

You've basically stated why the actual interest of people seeking long-term success is initiating and spreading a major public awareness and appreciation of long term issues; which is quite difficult, because humans are incredibly well wired for short-term thinking and not very well wired for long term thinking at all. Actual governmental shifts are of secondary interest (and a natural consequence) to doing so.

In environmental philosophy, this is basically the difference between shallow (within system, short term activism) and deep (outside or changing system, long term) ecology. If it doesn't go from the bottom up, it naturally collapses. That's fairly basic construction, be it physical or conceptual.

Coexisting is almost always more interesting. More difficult to write, though, usually. Especially when there's world-destroying baddies in both/all canons.

S'at least one million word Xover fic (Ranma 1/2 base, sorta'.) that does that quite deliciously. Seen a few others, too. Is just great when it's done well.

Time spent without doing any hull damage, while taking some. It's reasonable enough to retreat in that situation, but not with the "surrender" mechanics the way they are. Ahem.
Huh. Does that mean that fleets with shieldless ships are particularly vulnerable to retreat? That'd explain why hegemony and pirates (and the independents, I guess...) are so retreat prone, what with the prevalence of hounds and shieldless fighters in their composition.

Uh, because alcohol was actually a survival thing back then? Stronger drinks were more certain to kill whatever was in the water, so...

I guess, anyway.

Oh... yeah, I'm aware about the whole economic issue, but counting that as... ignorable isn't quite the right word, but 'consequence of the system' is probably accurate.

And unfortunately, they've got the cheapest food-I-eat that I've found in my area which is kinda' an issue :-\ E: As for which, well, it's mostly theirs, or whichever cheapest off-brand's still edible.

26557
... so maybe tiered, or something? Most of the farmers markets within driving distance of where I'm at are populated by bigots of varying shades, ditto for family owned restaurants. Currently do most food shopping at walmart, whose worst major offense I've noticed are sickening hiring practices.

Nah, McD and BK gets parts or somethin' from at least one of the major private prison companies in the US. Said company has at least some facilities where "medically able" prisoners are forced to do stuff like electronics assembly for pennies on the hour -- work that would give better than minimum wage outside their compounds. Penal slavery, basically. It's pretty infuriating all around.

Chick-Fil-A isn't even that great anyway. Their spicy chicken sandwich is decent at best.
Like their fry-things and their chicken nugget-whatsits are basically the least offensive chicken nugget-whatsits I've ate from a fast food place. No more, I guess.

Is there... is there just like a list, somewhere, of food providers that are performing moral atrocities? I'm running out of choices, here :-\

26559
Argh, damnit. It is?

Hadn't heard about that. Which means another one struck off the list. CFA for bigotry, McD and BK for supporting slavery. Anything else I should know to avoid?

26560
... are you kidding? I thought that was a semi-standard state for a fair number of them...

Hey, yo', check it out. Discussion relevant to the causes, etc., of the American Civil War probably goes there. Also previous discussion! Save some fingerjuice.

Also, thanks to Nadaka for mentioning that and saving me the effort. Slavery is not dead.

There's at least one final fantasy/MGS crossover fanfic over 100k words. Not FFVII, but there's one out there.

Middlingly decent, not very impressive -- even by fanfic standards -- but it's readable and exists.

Raining. They say there's a chance for very heavy rain and a fairly high (30-40%) chance of isolated tornadoes. Squee ♫

That, uh. That's exactly what interns aren't, usually. They already know the theory, or significant amounts of it, they're brought in for practical experience and/or applied theory. There usually is certain degrees of responsibility and autonomy, just, yanno', no or little pay. Most of the point to internship is to prove you're capable of (not just knowledgeable about) doing the job, at least from what I've picked up from the interns I've known.

But barring that, probationary and/or low impact work, then working way up. Would just have to figure out a good way to prevent the whole rising-to-level-of-incompetence thing.

... why exactly are government positions the only way to demonstrate the ability for effective social organization and leadership? We have businesses and charity for a reason, after all, along with plenty of local interest type stuff. There's also no reason intern/probationary-type systems couldn't be set up.
