I'm a bit confused about hardmode corruption. Can, say, a single tile of corruption grass underground surrounded by dirt (you know, the occasional patches of grass in the dirt) spread?

Yes. Yes, it can. I had a single tile of ebonstone (and, near as I can tell, it functions th'same as a single tile of corrupted grass) start corrupting the normal stone in my base. I'd thought th'corruption had finally reached the place, but when I checked the sides, nothing but green grass for a ways out, still. Turned out it was a single bloody block causing it.

Edit: Oh, right. Here's the fun part: The piece of ebonstone had empty areas around it. Only one tile of empty space between it and the nearest normal stone block, but it still managed to corrupt through the air. Trench builders might want to make sure said trench is sizable :P

Okay, holy shit. I just found out that spectre boots, cloud in a balloon, and wings... stack up. Basically. It took me five jumps (could have probably be reduced by one or two if I had glided the max distance) to get from spawn on a small map to the far edge. I could also do a standing jump straight to the top of the map. It's pretty freaking incredible!

Then yeah, definitely upgrade to crystal or cursed. Either of 'em's pretty easy to scrounge up materials for. Crystal generally seems to do more overall damage, but cursed has a nice DoT status effect (that probably won't do anything to th'bosses) and higher upfront damage. They're both quiet nice, though.

Spew magic. Switch to ranged when/if you run out of mana.

Does silver bullets pierce or something? I've never actually used them, so I don't know, hah. If they don't you might consider swapping them with crystal or cursed ammo. They're both pretty nice.

Also! Food. Don't forge the bowl of soup.

... yeah. Kael, the server probably needs a new password. Just sayin'. Going public with th'current one seems to have had negative consequences. :-\

As to hardmode... man, I have to admit, I'm loving it, especially how it transforms the whole bloody world. No more of this safe play with jellies shit. If I want to build something in hellworld, it's going to be a bloody rotterdamn fight.

Going in with full molten+best pre-wall weapons, it was like starting over again. Hiding from the night, scrambling frantically for the resources I needed to make my kit more viable vs. these vicious new creatures, learning how they move and the right ways to fight them, etc, etc, etc.

No longer being able to just tank the shit out of everything! I actually have to dodge now, pay attention to how the enemy's moving, be careful. Use that spark of dwarven ingenuity that drew me to DF -- hardmode is like starting on a terrifying glacier, only someone's modded in lasersnails. It's freaking terrific! Things have been kicked up a g'damn notch! This update gave me something I didn't even know I wanted, ha! Bloody challenge, that's what.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Anyway. Squeeing done. As for that sky house, just move in your npcs before you kill the wall. The way they teleport in nowadays should make that very easy. Enough of 'em in there will keep wyverns from spawning.

If you're fighting for npcs on kael's server, though... might just have to get used to fighting wyverns :P They're pretty easy to kill when you're actually up in the sky a bit -- low grav makes 'em pretty easy to dance around with rocket/spectre boots.

So yeah, 8 pm, plenty of time, no response, etc, etc. Muchly saddened :(

That said! USEC_OFFICER, you've got a friend request coming to you shortly from JackThejil. Once that's accepted (because I haven't bothered to figure out a better way to transfer gifts), you've got Terraria coming at you shortly.

As a general question, though, this does mean that th'server will not, i.e. including the future, kill the wall, correct?

Just checking here. The rule is no wall, ever? Because some folks don't really try to progress to a hell-prepared character. The only way to allow for non-endgame characters is to never activate the endgame, right?

Wall was killed twice on Kael's server while I was in it, so it's probably re-summonable. Doesn't increase hardmode damage, though.

Flamarang + autoclicker at about three character widths away from the eye :P There's not much pre-wall that can dish out damage like that does, yeh just gotta' clear out the hungers first. Sunfury deals with the hungers fairly well to begin with, until they thin out a bit.

Don't forget to eat a boul of soup! Those things are tremendously useful. Really easy to make now that you can kill goldfish directly, too.

1k's probably plenty, but I'd pave over the lava for a bit after the end of it, just in case. 2k'll definitely do you.

Darv may have managed with just an obskin potion, but I wouldn't much suggest it. If you were going that way, a water walking pot would do you much better. Less likely to inadvertently have you drop into a pit you can't get out of before the wall slams into you, plus you won't be slowed down from dipping into lava.

Even with that, making sure the path you're going to cover doesn't have any tall obstructions would probably be a really good idea. If the wall manages to catch up to you (and it goes pretty bloody fast once its hp gets lower), it's going to fooking murder you. Especially if it catches you up against a wall.

kael's server has hallow all over the spawn.  Have fun spawning in lasersnails!

Unless it's daytime.

Anyway, there's a hole just to the left of the spawn that's safe to drop in (there's a sign), so long as you don't hug the walls and no one's messed with the water at the bottom. Leads to a staging area/safehouse where the NPCs hide.

Better than corruption, I guess. At least hallow's mostly harmless during the day. Sprites aren't that bad and unicorns don't spawn too often...

Seriously though, Kael's has hardmode going strong. You've got serious <reproductive organs> and a bucketload of dwarven ingenuity if you go in there without good kit and somehow manage to survive.

Hella' more fun than pre-wall, though. Post-wall is actually vicious, especially if you're not being careful or have less than impressive equipment.

40 Crystals (whatever those are)
Crystal shards, to be more accurate. Grows like coral on underground pearlstone, only it can show up on any side of the blocks (not just the top) and glows.

Makes finding caves in the underground hallow easier than pretty much any other underground area in the game, actually. Underground hallow'd actually be pretty pleasant if it weren't for the freaking chaos elementals. Those things are a bit of a pain, if awesome to watch move around and murder things.

There's a reason the safehouse is underground :P

Hallow mobs are arguably more dangerous than corruption ones, especially during the night. Freaking snails.

27404
Just to doublecheck, Xeron, your steam name's showing up as silvyu_100. Is this accurate?

Fair warning, if I don't get some response by tomorrow afternoon, it's going to the next person down on the list :P

Don't want to be handing it out to just any random stranger, after all.

Hacked together a screenie of the safehouse. It's rather unfurnished (read: Frakking ugly). Contributions to sprucing it up are welcome :P
