Achievement get: Torchsea Rising!

Replication done! The sea is full~

Special thanks to Edge for aid in replication, and Flarehawk and Ferric for varying degrees of aid in excavation.

Goodsir Kael, a map update would be really awesome :P Not just for the torchsea, of course. There's other things, too!

E: A full dive takes 7-8 bubbles! Not quite what I was aiming for (That would be 10 and change~), but darnit, it's good enough.

Actual answer to how much force is "Magic." As noted somewhere, the giant hit down, i.e. that was a ricochet. There's absolutely no way, insofar as I know*, for something to be hit like that and bounce -- the player should have been turned into a fine slush spread over a notable portion of the countryside if that hit was governed by anything approaching real-world physical laws, not flying into the air.

Thus magic -- something innate to giants (or their clubs) keeps things hit by them from completely losing structural integrity on impact and somehow keeps all the energy imparted from discharging into the ground. Possibly some kind of emergent arcane property that comes into existence when any particular being reaches a sufficient level of strength.

In any case, all those number thus far would be skewed by assuming the force is being exerted upwards. It's not. There's also air resistance to consider, which would definitely be notable on something the size of a human body. That'd mean all those numbers are (probably considerably) low :P

* Unless the materials in Skyrimland are considerably different than in reality -- everything made out of that superball rubber, maybe, or something roughly equivalent.

That was exactly what I was hoping someone would quote, because I had forgotten where it was at. Tested it a bit, then set up a couple of those to fill up each side of the torchsea. S'very slow, but also very steady (and I can sleep while it's doing it's thing!). Thanks!

Hopefully by tomorrow both sides will be filled~

Quick E: It'd be totally awesome if we could get an updated Terraria map, Kael ;)

Sooo... expanded torchsea's right side is almost full! Water be risin'.

Really slow going, though. Can't say I'm surprised, considering the sheer amount of water that's being replicated, but still...

Anyone got some hints for widescale water replication?

E: Soloed a gobbo army in iron armor~
Spoils:  2 gold, 64 silver, 93 copper, 208 spikey balls... and nothing else. Cheap green bastids. Anyway, out for the night.

Anybody have played Romance of Three Kingdoms?
Romance of the Three Kingdoms had, uh, an absolute bucketload of different versions. Sequels, et al. Plus a vaguely unnumerable amount of spinoffs, related series, things named the same or nearly the same, etc, etc, etc. Any particular one you had in mind? I haven't played many of 'em, and none of them for very long, but I do understand the mechanics can change around a bit from game to game.

All of 'em were based off of the literary Romance of the Three Kingdoms, for those that didn't know. It's pretty much one of the biggest (both in terms of historical/cultural impact and sheer size) pieces of Chinese literature in existence, from what I understand. One of the true classic books in existence, really. There's a few translations running around the 'net, yeah.

Anyway, URR. Questions I've randomly pulled out to actually add to discussion: Will any race choices have radical gameplay impact? Will a hivemind or full-on aquatic race exist, for example? Boats, tunneling?

Can anything more be said on the magic system? I've been playing Vapors of Insanity a bit, lately, and I have to say a sort of, I guess, noun/verb driven (A firebolt, ferex, is mixing the spell of missile with the spell of fire), almost totally freeform system would be absolutely delicious (especially with a more accessible UI :P). Basically, how complex is the complex systems you mention in the blog :P

I'll throw my hat in. I've heard good things about SotS, I think.

Download page doesn't mention anything, but I don't have access to a linux machine, hum. Site says it's been compiled on a 64-bit Ubuntu machine, but doesn't give any more information. Try and find out?

First, link:Homepage. Straight to the download page.

Second, blurb:
Quote from: From website
Vapors of Insanity is a roguelike game set on a paradise island of Fortarica, where the common Humans, mighty Dwarves and Orcs, insect-like Melissans and Formicans, and many more people lived in peace and harmony... until now. One day, you wake up, and see magical fog everywhere around you, and every man and beast around seems to become a mindless machine, wanting only to kill you! The only way to find the source of the problem is to fight the crazy beasts, hoping that you will find a way to remove the vapors, and the beasts will be sane again... Will you be able to win?

Spoiler: Feature List (click to show/hide)

Third, why the hell you should care: My last character melted three people and a number of miscellaneous animals via spewing out a massive spray of acid that covered my entire field of vision, before dying to a kobold, giant mutated eye, and a pair of giant lizards -- the massive amount of acid I covered them in melts slow :P

My current character is wandering around the countryside viciously murdering everything he comes across with a dagger-inflicted spell that covers my foes in flashfrozen liquid air, then using his artificer trained skill in creating golems to reanimate the corpses as zombies, spreading a slowly growing swarm of undead minions before, behind, and around him.

Short version: Incredibly versatile and awesome magic system that lets you freely mix and match component spells into whatever strikes your fancy, elemental interaction (water+frost=snow, which is frost but longer lasting and more damaging, lightning does more damage to creatures covered in water, etc.), detailed (or at least complicated, ha) crafting system including weapon, armor, and potion creation, golem creation, and a number of other things I haven't personally seen yet, and a pretty well fleshed out skill system for an alpha.

Lastly, the warning. As a DF player to other DF players, the UI for this thing is DF level horrible, or at least horribly clunky. Using a skill is going to take at least four keypresses, possibly more. Example, casting a spell -- the quick and easy way, with a simple spell -- 'f z <number> enter enter'. Melee attacking is the only thing that happens in one button press, and that's only if you're attacking something directly in front of you -- attacking to the sides takes (at least) three (a 1 enter). There's facing and it takes a (small) bit of time to change your direction, so that can be pretty important in a particularly pitched battle.

First thing that I recommend: Before starting the game, go into vapors.ini and change 'hex' to 'oct'; this'll change the view to a standard grid, which is a bit easier to look at, imo. One you start the game, press 'n enter g 2 enter' (otherwise known as starting a new game and firing up the tutorial), then hit enter and go through the tutorial. It helps tremendously in figuring what the blue hell you need to do to get from point A to point B and spew out a zombie horde. The tutorial also gives a pretty good idea of whether you're going to be able to stomach the game or not, hopefully saving y'some time if your reaction's negative..

Finally, it's an alpha -- very feature filled for one, but an alpha nonetheless, so various problems may or may not arise.

Anyway, check this thing out, see what neat crap you can do, then come back and discuss. This seems to be something that's right up a DF player's alley.

Out for the night, or at least a while. For the clay, there's 111 blocks in the right chest of the starting room of the Thejil complex. I don't think there's anything particularly valuable to me, insofar as either chest goes, so help yerselves.

VVV

There's even more grass now! I made a mostly-grass room with wood backwall. It's a pleasant change from the brick.

Spoiler: Torchsea fishin'! (click to show/hide)
Fishin's alright, too. Got a nice spread of jellies up to yellow and plenty of blue jellyfish. S'fairly soothing :)

Also fairly easy to spearfish off the platform, hee.

27477
Does whoever wanted that clay yesterday still want some? I ended up with a lil'over a hundred blocks of it digging out the torchsea (More of a torchlake right now, but it's a start...) and the start of my complex, and I don't think I'll need clay any time soon.

27478
Put in the dyndns thing again, apparently the raw IP address changed or somethin'. I was just on for a bit.

27479
Same here, yeah.

Other Games / Re: Diablo III and Why You Shouldn't Buy It

... source? That's pretty patently untrue for D1 (unless the devs failed at it miserably), and if there's any content in D2 that's mutliplayer only, I never noticed it. D2 certainly wasn't balanced for MP, from what I recall, but I didn't play D2 online enough to really know.

Multiplayer always stuck me as kinda' tacked on to the main game, though, for both the Diablos. Certainly not the focus of the game.
