You need repel missiles, ASAP.

Throw icicle wouldn't hurt, and you've got access to both demonic horde (sexy) and haunt (incredibly sexy, if you can around the sickness -- the randart sustAB ring you're wearing prevents sickness stat drain, so you're probably fine, there.).

For later on, regeneration meshes well with swiftness (hit swift, back until open space, hit regen, back further until healed), and poisonous cloud synergizes well with stuff like summon ice beast or call imp (demonic horde to a lesser degree -- it can summon 5s that aren't poison resistant.). Anything summonable with rPois, basically. Like haunt :P

That sustain ring will also let you cast summon horrible things without the risk of int loss, I think. If you can get that castable with any reliability, you've got a helluva weapon in it.

Menkaure actually hits really hard for the point you're probably going to start meeting 'im. It looks like he'd be capable of one-shotting himself, if he felt like it. 25 damage vs 24 health :P

And Grinder... Grinder's a bigger PitA than sigmund nowadays. Paralyze :-\

It'll always have that chance, though the chance probably reduces with spellpower. Higher spellpower mostly gives a chance to summon a very ugly thing instead.

Anyway, here's the numbers on summon elemental. You really don't want to be casting that right now :P

Actually, each summon spell has a fairly distinct usage, similar to how the varying conj spells progress and differ. You can get by as a summoner using only and entirely summoning spells, it'd just be a bit harder than if you diversify a bit. The only real overlap in Akhier's spell list was, maybe, summon elemental and ice beast, and spammals and butterflies.

Even with those, though, there's distinct usages and scenarios where one is more useful than the other. Summon elemental can be much more versatile than ice beast if you've got the elemental schools to call multiple types safely, ferex.

Spammals and butterflies both fill the 'arrowcatcher' slot, but spammals have the distinction of occasionally taking more than one hit to kill and actually attacking things, while being less effective as arrowcatchers qua arrowcatchers.

Even canine familiar has a particular use to it, namely as one of the harder hitting low-tier summon spells (via wardogs/wargs and hounds, to a lesser degree). The only reason I suggest dumping it now is because call imp is more likely to produce something semi-difficult to kill, and has better utility via shadow imp undead raising, and the hit-hard summon slot is filled by ice beast, ugly thing, and possibly shadow creatures (if Akh's in the right area.).

Summon elemental has to go, though. Akh's not got a single elemental school high enough to reliably summon any of them.

Swiftness, abjuration, levitation, apportation, possibly spider form, in that order. You want those. You especially want swiftness, and you want swiftness now. You could probably dump call imp or canine familiar (preferably the latter -- call imp has more utility) for it, at this point. You'll definitely want apportation when you get ready to go rune hunting. It can save you some grief, as it can pick up runes. E: If you dump canine familiar, you could get swiftness, abjuration, and levitation or apportation. Do this. E2: Get rid of summon elemental. You need sufficient training in the particular elemental school to summon non-hostile ones with any reliability. Vehy'll start giving you conj books fairly soon, I think. Replace it with throw icicle or IMB.

You might want to find somewhere to stash the cure mutation potions, as I've been told those can viciously mutate you if they shatter in your inventory.

I'd be kiting with the venom dagger instead of using the draining shortsword -- drained enemies give less XP =(

Otherwise, you seem to be doing mostly alright. I'd definitely suggest turning back around and going through the lair. You've got plenty of power to take it down, especially if you pick up swiftness to avoid getting hydra-eaten or whatever. That you went to orc 4 before even touching the lair is slightly crazy, honestly. Orc's more dangerous than the lair, 90% of the time. Anyway, if you've cleared the mines, you can and definitely should go clear the lair.

Some of the things I noticed... vehy is probably a better god for non-mummy summoners. Some utility spells probably would have saved yer arse, as would a nice blast spell (IMB, ferex) -- sif would be better for the former, vehy for the latter. Vehy's casting assistance can be about as effective as Sif's miscast prevention, and anything with a food clock would probably rather be getting MP on kill rather than channeling, at least until they clean out th'hive.

You had an invis potion, ID'd, in your inventory. Ugly things don't see invis. Should have drank the invis, then read the TP scroll. Other thing you could have done was swap in the blowpipe and hit th'things with curare, after stepping away from the pair. North-east once, then into the corridor, probably would have been the best option if you were doing that. Never, ever, ever fight more than 1v1 if you can at all prevent it.

You should have turned off stabbing, definitely, and T&D probably -- at the very least, focusing on T&D was probably a bad idea. Just keep a few spammels around you to run over traps in your stead. Don't bother with stabbing if you don't have a reliable confusion or sleep source. Focus on fighting probably wasn't the best choice, either, especially with the fighting nerf. Just training is probably enough. Evocations and UC probably should have been off, at least until you got some decent buff spells to make melee safer.

Probably could have done without summon scorpions, honestly. And yeah, throwing up a few critters before you go down stairs is a good idea. Going back upstairs when you see stuff like a pair of ugly white things at clvl 9 is also an excellent idea :P

It's okay... don't feel bad about it. Stones are one of the most helpful items in the entire game, especially for combos that aren't using bows or crossbows. Indescribably useful for drawing off individual members of packs, killing jellies, and a whole host of other tasks. The sandblast thing is just a nice bonus :P

Blacksmiths got a win! First demigod win in the tournament, too :D Second FE win, and tied for current second lowest XL on a victory, heh.

Coming up was surprisingly painless, but very intense. I ended up using OoD to knock down walls in order to cut down distance to the next stairs :P

Better to have its own place, though. It's terribly amusing, best laugh I've had in a while, but the chances of it actually doing anything of legal note is... staggeringly low. And ye' gods, the precedent that sort of settlement would set!

Still hoping it happens. From a PR perspective, turning Notch down on this would be a really bad move :P

Personally, of the two escape options, berserking has got me killed in the past. There's never been a time in which summon butterflies did the same. Take the butterflies and go Kiku or somethin' :P

Whips are fine until you hit mid dungeon. Then you're flailing away at something for 15 strikes before seeing their health go red. For trash monsters they're fine, for anything bigger you need to bring serious artillery. Whips are great because you attack so often, but they're just paper cuts against armored enemies.

Unless it's a demon whip, of course. Or holy scourge. Demon whips hit just shy of twice as hard as plain whips (in .9), and holy scourges just a bit harder. Either are one of the better mace-type weapons to get, if you can. Requires the least amount of M&F to hit min delay. Would probably want to upgrade to an eveningstar, if you ever found a decent one, but that's about the only thing better than the d.whip or scourge, so long as you're sticking to one or one and a half-handed weapons.
