Other Games / Re: Terraria - It's out! And there's a 4 pack

Well, there's a difference here between thinking and testing. I'd say we know, fairly well, that at the least a fair amount of transplanted hellstone brick does not induce hellspawn. However, I've certainly not seen copious amounts of hellstone brick or raw hellstone used in construction somewhere, so I certainly couldn't say whether it does or does not. At least, not without code diving or, yanno', going and checking.

I'll do that after a nap, if someone doesn't beat me to it. 150 brick, 150 ore, make a solid block (6 or 7 wide, straight up) tower and see if something happens. I don't think anything will, but I won't know until I go and check.

EMPIRICISM!

The spawn-creation one included the hellstone brick, yes, along with the dungeon walls, which are also brick. Further testing would include both raw and brick forms~

An interesting, if somewhat hellish (heh) to set up, test would be to stone-brick a large area around one of those hell buildings, to see if hellstone brick backwall prevents spawning, particularly when turned into a room. 99.9% sure it doesn't, but it'd be an interesting thing to see, anyway.

Re: dungeon brick, though, does it require just a certain amount of dungeon brick (not backwall, just the brick) in an area to trigger dungeon spawning, or do you have a make a "room" of dungeon wall + backwall? If the latter, anyone know how large th'minimum size is, at least roughly? E: I had a decent-ish sized undergound room (Maybe 15x15 or so?) made solely from dungeon material, but nothing was showing up inside :-\

Does Hellstone have mob-spawning properties like Meteor, Ebonstone, and Dungeon walls do? And if so, does it only work underground?

Well, the brick doesn't seem to, and if there's any way to get hellstone brick back wall, I haven't noticed it. I lined a semi-decent size jungle pocket with hellstone brick and gold brick backwall, but it didn't cause any unusual spawns. There might be a critical mass component (there certainly is with ebonstone), but I rather doubt it. There should have been enough in m'little junglecave to trigger whatever was needed.

... or just, yanno', build underground. Preferably past the dirt backwall. It's a pretty effective anti-goblin tactic.

But yeah, screw goblins. I've soloed 4-5 armies so far, no boots. Harpoons out th'arse, but those are bloody worthless if you've got a flail of any sort. I've mostly resigned myself to never having boots. Balloon and cloud helps fill that void in my heart.

Have everyone else's NPCs not been spawning or respawning since 1.0.2 came out as well?

Just, uh, yesterday (day before?), I think, I did the little corruption-house test and the merchant spawned just fine. Was 1.0.2, yes.

I'd probably agree there's a bug with respawning, though. Lost th'merch in one of my worlds to the eater a while back, and he never moved back in. Haven't tried to make a new room for 'im, to see if that fixed it, though.

I have never heard Friggin considered a bad word. Quite the opposite, it's a substitute for saying bad words :V

Same here.
I do not understand why.. more and more people think that they are actual bad words?

Um, mostly because what frig means.
Friggin' is frigging, or, to frig. It kinda' is a bad word, just most folks don't bother to find out what it means.

How can you run out of stars I found 40 of them in three hours ?
FULL AUTO, BABY!

40 stars. Ha. Autoclicker laughs at your puny stockpile.

Anyway, yeah. Forget having the gold to get the minishark and not having full mana, I've got basically everything except the flamelash and rocket boots and still only have about a half a mana bar. Really, the only thing that seems worth using the mana is th'light orb (which you don't need extra regen or more than 40 mana to use indefinitely) and rocket boots (which I don't have). So don't really need the mana, and running back and forth at night jumping over zombies is kinda' boring.

Tend to collect enough for a mana star whenever I go out to find a dungeon in a new world, though. It's a natural progression.

With a 'rang, just two four-tile high walls on either side of my dude, with platforms between th'top two tiles, to keep black slimes out. Then I just fire th'rang upwards until the bugs stop moving.

For flails, what I showed here.

Then it's just a matter of turning autoclicker on and waiting.

Glowing mushroom farm and a merchant (for non-lesser healing potions) would probably be the biggest help right from the start, along with protracted spelunking trips to find heart crystals. Sooner you can take a hit, the better off you're going to be. Finding a decent ranged weapon (read: at least an enchanted boomerang) is also a pretty good idea, which ties further into the cave diving part. If you've got a boomerang or flail, you can probably manage to set up hornet farming stations in the jungle, once you find it, to get the makings for better (jungle-tier) weapons. Maybe even get a cobalt set, but the real goal would be a thorn chakram, which is strong enough and easy enough to use to make getting the rest of th'high end stuff a lot easier.

After that it's getting a nightmare pick (Eater summoning or dynamite) and enough obsidian for a skull, then hellstone mining for th'good stuff.

Heh, watched th'interview. Regardless of the eventual gameplay, it looked absolutely incredible. There's also no way in god's hell my computer would run it, which is strangely hilarious to me. Go technology, go! Outpace my pocketbook!

what does everyone do with all of their metal?

Iron gets made into chain, to support copper and gold chandeliers, and occasionally buckets. Gold also makes the occasional candle.

Silver, uh. Um. I occasionally make buildings out of the ore. I guess. Silver doesn't do much outside of (quickly outclassed) weapons/tools/armor. I like the way the ore looks, though. Not gold, but shinier than raw iron or stone. I guess you can make brick out of it, hum...

A+ on the orbital magma cannon. Now knock out all those unsightly walls :P

I can't even see attempting to kill a human player in actual PvP with explosives :-\ Unless grenades are something special and I haven't noticed it yet, bombs and dynamite, even (especially, to a degree) spammed all over the place, are just tremendously easy to avoid.

Nix only sorta has to aim, really, especially if you've got meteor shot. Just turn on autoclicker and kinda' vaguely point in the target's direction. They'll die soon enough, unless they've also got a 'nix/s.cannon and are returning the favor (with greater accuracy).

The rawr-I-have-no-aim weapons are probably th'flails, 'rangs, and magic missile/flamelash. The first two have big hitboxes, so they're harder to dodge, and the second you just kinda' run your cursor over the target :P But actual bullets move considerably faster than everything else, so 'nix probably wins again. Th'nix is just ridiculous, really.

Grapple and vine jump are indeed about the only way to actually move quickly in a small space, though, I'll give yeh that. I guess necro and 4x amulet could get some decent speed going, but...

EVERYONE BUST OUT THE STARCANNONS, IT'S MURDERIN' TIME!

Seriously, though. Hit and run? Nix, handgun, flamarang, S.Cannon. Flamelash, for lulz. Actual escape doesn't seem to be a genuine option in most cases. In an actual pvp fight, you'd probably want balloon+cloud rather than boots, 'cause as nice as flying is and everything, it's not terribly agile.

What we really need is the ability to bind the hook/whip to a key and use them independent of weapons. That would make PvP battles a thing to behold.

Flintlock pistol, musket, blue-book-water-thingy. Laser pistol. Keep forgetting the laser pistol is actually called 'space gun' :-\

As for the armor, cobalt is apparently more-or-less shadow+meteorite, in terms of set bonus. It's about even in terms of tier to hellstone, though more annoying to get.

That, and discussion of decency in a forum that, to a large part, is dedicated to such high points as kitten genocide and sentient torture, is really kinda' misplaced. Sex is a lesser violation of decency than violence, though the combination is, of course, worse than either alone. Not really sure where this wikiporn falls on the scale, hum.

Much prefer manners, anyway. That's a lot easier to nail down. Violation of ToS should be dealt with swiftly :P
