No portuguese games translations, only old [and new] shit ;D

In all seriousness, most fan translation stuff does involve games a few (or many) years old. Localization isn't something that's done quickly by professional teams with access to developer tools and assistance, much less informally organized groups working with scratch built programs. That there's any recent games getting translated without the bankroll of a commercial developer behind them is bloody impressive.

Man, what? Three pages of this and no one links one of the largest fan translation sites around?

As to the fantrans from moonspeak directly into non-English, it happens, but I'm not entirely sure how often. There's definitely some examples of that on romhacking; I've noticed to spanish and russian, as well as a few others, but I don't speak anything besides english to any extent, so I don't look into it any deeper than noticing the front page news post and going, "Neat."

But yeah. Fan translation's pretty lively, if usually working on stuff that's not quite recent.

The newest incarnation of ToME. The default graphics are all tiley and graphicy and crap, but you can turn that junk off in the graphic mode options. Go alchemist. They throw bombs at things and have a pet golem. The golem has LASER EYES. More should not need be said.

There as soon as I can get spring running... only able to stay for ~an hour before having to ditch for a couple of 'em, but I should be able to get back after that.

Tomorrow... I think I can probably make it. Have to re-download spring and... whatever we'll be playing, but I'd be up for a game. Could stand a short break from ToME, anyway.

General Discussion / Re: How would you want to die?
« on: February 25, 2011, 10:56:04 pm »
I fully intend, barring accident or disease, to have myself euthanised at some point not long after my body starts well and truly falling apart. Probably another twenty or thirty years from now... forty on the outside.

Just before this happens, I will be strapped to a conglomeration of sufficient fireworks to both lift by body a few hundred feet off the ground and fully immolate my corpse once the fireworks detonate. This device will be launched once I am confirmed dead. Tickets will be sold to the event, and all proceeds donated to whatever charity I favor at the time.

Then, there will be cake, cookies, and perhaps dancing. Something cheerful to accompany the fireworks, in any case.

Yeah... those were the good days. I'm really sad that no one ever made another Total Annihilation game. It was great, but was never modernized with slick new graphics and such.

Spring, good sir, Spring. There's also a TA3D project running around somewhere or another.

IVAN, more IVAN, and a bit of LIVAN. Search feature pings IVAN as coming up pretty often, even beyond those :P

That said, IVAN's awesome. My favorite thing to do is go in under cheatmode and spawn about 20-30 grandmaster necromancers in the main town, then watch the fireworks.

Other Games / Re: Rpg or roguelikes with legendary weapons
« on: February 20, 2011, 10:55:02 pm »
Random descriptions are always a bit hard... if you're looking for random weapons that get ridiculously epic, check out Portralis (Link directly to th'place holding downloads: You probably want Portralis04build002.zip. Build 5's undergoing major construction to th'system in general, apparently). Things just get silly in that one.

As with someone above, I easily recommend ToME4. It has randomly generated artifacts which are occasionally good, and a fairly numerous selection of set artifacts, complete with descriptions and so forth. The next version or two promises to have a influx of new artifacts specifically built to revolve around bits of game lore, which ought to be nice.

DoomRL has unique weapons as well, heh. Some of them are certainly legendary!

You haven't been able to stack brands for a long time, if it was ever the case.

Poison brand can, at least, stack with flaming for ranged attacks, and was able to quite recently (either in 7 or the 8 trunks, not quite sure which). I say this because in one of those two versions I very specifically remember getting wrecked by a Nessos whose arrows both poisoned me and nailed me with fire damage. Whether that happens with anything else, I'unno, but flaming poisoned arrows is possible.

I'll throw in for Magicka. I don't think it'll actually run on this computer, but having it in case they patch it or somethin' so it will, would be awesome.

Plus there's always, yanno', other computers.

Lies and slander! ASCII would work just fine, and do well enough for humor. Plus be considerably less effort to actually make. Let he who slanders ASCII be the first to provide art resources :P

Personally, I'd care more about the gameplay than the fluff, anyway. I didn't play Dungeon Keeper for the jokes.
