Anyone know of a way to survive a nuke or meteor? Even small ones wreck everything :-\

Except you can't really play them as spriggans, even similar to spriggans. They're not nearly as stealthy (Only +2 apt), they probably have less health now (HP got nerfed sometime yesterday and was already low), they can't really stab (Unarmed is in the 'other' category), and they're slower. All the felid's casting aptitudes are worse than spriggans for spriggan-style play. Felids are even worse fighters than Sprigs, hands down. No shield, no armor. They've got better conjuration and summoning, slightly better elemental apts, but that's about it. The only thing they can do better is eat -- they've probably got the easiest food game of anything not-a-mummy. Felids even gain XP slower than sprigs for some ungodly reason, or at least do in the trunk version I've got.

It's seems kinda' obvious to me that felids are just a gimpy challenge race, really. I'd be happy if the game came with a 'disable felids' option, same way a lot of *band variants have a 'disable joke monsters' one. At the moment, they're really not adding anything interesting or meaningful. Panic teleport and heal once every four character levels isn't terribly interesting and rewards careless play anyway.

Re: TSO and green dracs; just have TSO intervene if you're at something like 2 or 3 star piety. Seems the obvious choice to make.

Pressure plates tied to TNT blocks at the end. The exit door must lead to a creeper filled room. Skeleton rooms alongside the walls, with murder holes spaced along 'em. Not only do you have to make the jumps, you have to do it while dodging arrowspam.

Necromancer's alright so far. Priest was the best I've yet played, but I've only hit twenty with that and wiz, both times with only one or two non-starting items :P. 'Bout two levels from topping out on necro, though, and I've actually got semi-decent loot for once.

Name's Namenam in game. Not on very often, though.

Yeah, Mennas was in the ten-rune challenge sprint map, and apparently in the new trunk builds. Abso-freaking-lute beast of a thing with ridiculous range silence (iirc, it can lock down casting from outside standard view range...), self-healing, and a beastly melee presence. I've kamikazed three+ large aboms and multiple haunt castings on the damn thing without killing it and it wrecked a number of my really promising caster runs for that map. Mennas is a monster :-\

Was a little dizzy by the end of it, heh. That's a freakishly long track and an impressively quick mine cart. Go go AutoCart mod, I guess.

Translation can be found here. :P

Also, quite the impressive game, though I only made it to like the second boss. Something about the control scheme didn't jive with my computer, but I don't remember what. Common issue with laptops, iirc, something about multiple buttons or whatever.

By th'by, this is free now? Was under the impression the full version was still commercial...

I mean... how good are they?

They can't use weapons or armor. Any. At all. No, that doesn't mean they can throw things. They can't. I... I'm not really sure what to do with them. Kinda' neat, but... seriously? Rings as the only source of resist (besides gods, I guess)? That's some serious gimpage going down. They're not even good assassins, since stab damage is crap with unarmed attacks. Maybe one of their mutations makes that work differently? I'unno.

Gonna' give it a few runs and see how it goes, I guess.

Would have made a nice movie trailer, but for a game? I'unno. Doesn't really show anything about the game, other than it's (maybe) based off the mainline (Not X, Z, B.Network, etc.) storyline stuff.

The Megaman X stuff would probably make for a better MMO, though. More room for unique characters; sentient robots are comparatively rare in the mainline, but fairly common in the X canon.

Spear maxes at 10d22 (220) damage. You're probably not going to get that high. Orb's formula is: "8dK damage where K = min(x, x * (dist*2 + 3)/10) / 4, dist is the number of squares travelled by the orb (1 at melee range) and x = pow for pow < 30, x = (30 + pow) / 2 for pow < 90, x = (150 + pow) / 4 otherwise"

At power 200 (See second sentence above), the orb does around 8d21 (168), if I'm reading that formula right (math isn't my shtick, so I might not be), providing the ball travels at least four squares.

The spear can miss. The orb can be blocked, but if it collides with the monster, it hits. The orb costs less (1 point less) and is easier to cast (level 7) and consumes less hunger. The spear is going to outdamage the orb regardless if the orb hasn't moved at least four squares. The orb can destroy some wall tiles.

Re: Throwing nets. I'unno. I've seen 'em hold hill giants for a few turns. I'd just use 'em if you're not right beside somethin' 'cause hey, why not. Might as well throw the things if you've found 'em, they're pretty rare.

GH2's got probably at least as much content as GH1 -- likely a bit more if you go by the filesize of the series (i.e. content) folders -- but it tends to be a bit harder to find that content than in GH1, especially if you don't already know where and how to look for it. One of the reasons I'd suggest rumbling through GH1 a few times before trying out the sequel.

Mr. Hewitt -- Gearhead's developer -- is working on the issue, though, and there's discussion on the game's forums on the subject if you're interested in throwing in your two cents. He's aware of the lack of connection between content points and intends to do something about it, sooner or later, and generally welcomes ideas. Not a full time game developer, though, so it may take a while.

It's h in both games, instead of ?. Documentation's been a fairly long standing issue with GH, unfortunately; there's some there, but generally not as much or as clear as there could stand to be. The other things make up for it :P

GH2 has an optional 3D graphics mode, but its pretty notably inferior (i.e. uglier) than the 2D one according to most people that play. I run it ASCII so I couldn't say either way.

Difference wise... yeah. Yeeaaaah. They're both using "basically" the same engine, so there's a lot of similarities in a general sense; movement, combat, character progression, menu layout, etc, all pretty much look if not the same, then bloody close to it.

Key word there is look, though. GH2 changes quite a bit about how various mechanics work. Some -- certainly not an exhaustive list -- examples:
  • The skill list has been roughly cut in half, for example, by consolidating a lot of skills (e.g. Mecha Gunnery, which dealt with 'small' mecha scale guns, and Mecha Artillery, which dealt with the rest, became jut Mecha Gunnery) or turning some skills into talents (think dnd style perks, only generally a lot more sweeping or specialized than +1 to dodge or something). In general, this change makes things a bit easier on you, though it's harder to get most or all of the skills with one character.
  • You can no longer chat NPCs up to improve their opinion of you, that process is determined by other actions and stat/skill/personality combinations. You get a 'ask about rumors' option, which can infodump you with a dozen rumors in one go
  • There's hard limitations on how much you can fit onto a single mech limb, unlike GH1 where the only limit is your mecha engineering and knowledge scores (and how much you were willing to reload). There's a talent that loosens that restriction. There's also several new pieces of equipment, like multi-weapon items, transforming mecha, etc.

In general, though, the suggestion is play GH1 first. The experience is still a bit more streamlined and directed than GH2, it's a bit easier to play (No permadeath, where GH2 has a sort of limited lives thing going on that can be influenced by skills and personality), and it's a fair bit more contained. GH's wiki has more information for GH1 than 2, still, which would probably help. Once you've played through GH1 a few times, moving on to GH2 is a lot smoother processes and you get new toys, whereas it can be a bit confusing if you don't already have some idea of how things are going to go down.

Moonrock?

In other questions, do skeletons ever run out of arrows? I had one shoot probably two dozen at me before it decided to stop dicking around and jump on top of my little cave (presumably to wait until I left) instead of loitering around in front of it. Cacti keeps 'em out, but it's still a while before the sun comes up...

I'd personally use 'em now, in a probably vague hope of staving off eventual death. If you think that you'll survive to use 'em later, though, it might be worth it to stash 'em somewhere. Depends on what you've got that can be victory danced, I'd think. Wait, wait, was thinking cards of experience, not potions. Eh. First bit still stands.

They do ignore required XP (i.e. go straight to your next level), so you would be getting more out of 'em if you waited, quite possibly exponentially so. But you'd have to be alive then. No guarantees, there.
