So, which party is for the commercialization of domestically farmed mermaid bones?
I mean, they're humanoid and, being out in the ocean, probably outside the borders. The GOP wouldn't even want them in the country, nevermind legalizing any economic exploitation of them -- they'd look the other way to the horrible cruelty and under the table farming, but there's no chance of them legitimizing the practice.

The dems would probably require a consent contract or something. They might not criminalize trade in mermaid bone, so long as the species wasn't an extinction risk, but I can't see them supporting wide spread commercial farming.

Now, libertarians? They'd be all for it. That's the one you want if you want to commercialize mass murder and sophont scrimshaw.

I mean, no joke I could see a large screen built with acoustics in mind. Less so for personal home use, but like DJ/large venue stuff? That actually kinda' makes sense, y'know? Audiophile screen could be a legit thing. Not so much a peripheral incorporation thing as shape and material made to facilitate acoustics.

Maybe just mildly allergic or somethin', it's friggin' hard to avoid onion or garlic in most culinary traditions I'm aware of.

So hey, with a day of early voting and actual election day left, Texas has, uh. Surpassed its total 2016 voting turnout. That's neat.

Now you're thinking it through, hec. Every year they get a new name until the full lyrics have played themselves across some judge's desk :P

3381
Depends on the local jurisdiction, actually, I think :P

Some places have limitations on what they'll accept as a legal name. Monster Mash would probably clear, but some joints have legal precedent regarding other people being able to stop you from naming a kid something or another.

But broadly speaking, yeah, you can mostly name a kid whatever. Think you could be super mean and probably force a name change on them repeatedly until they become old enough to legally challenge it, too, heh.

3382
Sounds about right :-\

Any case, news in passing said three dead so far, millions without power. Didn't hear anything about general damage and whatnot, but I can't imagine it's anything good. Poor Louisiana.

3383
Yeah, got those where I'm at around landfall. That plus the subsequent tornado watch meant I didn't get as much sleep as I'd like last night :-\

Which is, uh. Pretty minor compared to how Louisiana apparently got shat on again, but still.

Mild amusement, beyond stuff that ranges from upping the minimum wage to probably functionally crippling the state's ability to make ballot initiative changes (requiring two consecutive votes to pass instead of just the one), Florida has a proposal on the ballot to change over to open primaries. Left up to the reader is whether that would be fun, or "fun".

If I'm about $80 richer now than I was a month ago, is that progress or stagnation?
I mean, does being 80 bucks richer meaningfully improve your financial situation? Make it more likely you can actually manage an emergency without going into debt (probably not, that's all of 9ish k over a decade)? More likely you can maintain food and shelter? If yes, then progress. If no, stagnant. If not beating inflation, probably just screwed :P

Most folks don't really notice how you breath, tbh. Long breaths or paying attention to your breathing is extremely unlikely to attract much attention if you're not making a show of it.

Internal awareness, i.e. paying attention to the weight of your clothes also has, like, no overt expression unless you're actively molesting your outerwear in the process or something. Which, y'know. Don't do that. An external observer in a social setting shouldn't be able to tell, with either of those. Probably why they're recommend.

Breathing and muscle control in general has definitely helped me with high stress situations in the past, though, sure. I probably would never have been able to start driving without it.

If you look at the overall Federal budget, a large chunk of it is a case of Mandatory spending from Social Security/Medicare that would be brought down to the state rather than federal level.
But how are the states going to pay for it, is my question. Are you assuming a lot of savings from turning them into state-led programs, lower benefits, or something else?
Lots of them mostly wouldn't. Pay for it, that is. Real question is whether the subsequent "lots of people die or suffer crippling medical complications" due to loss of benefits or access outright is considered a feature or a bug by the folks making the proposition. Least most of the ones I've encountered consider the worse off folks ending up dead or even more miserable to be more feature than anything, so...

'Course, the same thing applies to all the things beyond healthcare and elder support the fed provides to the varying extents it does. The general idea encounters a nasty reality when you consider more than one or two states in the US would fail and fail hard without the amount of federal support they get, heh.

Which, I guess if you want to see the US cracked open like an egg and scrambled to shit, that might be a desirable end goal. Shame about all the people that'd have to live through it, for however long they do.

If cans of coke grew on trees, everyone would die around 14.
Alternatively, they'd treat it like fruit and shun them cokefruit like apples or whatever. Extra best bonus it might put at least one cola company out of business either way :P

I mean, you can try.

About the only one I can think of off the top of my head is the figleaf to folks that want the US kneecapped. If you consider it being weakened as a positive and the immiseration of its populous as an acceptable price to pay for it, well, there's one. Don't think there's any other ones, though, especially not consistent ones. The man's character, behavior, and actions current and past are mostly just kinda' shit.

In rural regions, there aren't close to as many programs and so businesses built out there typically are ones the person build through their efforts.
I mean, being out here, this is pretty horseshit. Businesses that don't just keel over and die in these regions tend to be reliant to one extreme or another on government support, be it direct subsidies, favorable tax/utility treatment, or all that infrastructure they probably siphon away money from more populated areas to build or maintain. There's precious bloody little in rural areas that are actually built through their owners efforts, and less that stays standing through it.
