I just noticed cube person has a name (and shape) strikingly similar to Tardis. Anyone know if they have time powers? Can we expect tiny british people to chestburst out of them at some point?

Eh, I should be fine. I'm a fair bit eastward of projected landfall areas, and if the winds don't get too bad I'm in a relatively decent place to be so far as flooding is concerned. Close enough it's going to be a very rainy next few days and I might be sorta' stuck at home, but everything so far suggests my immediate area is going to be outside the main impact regions.

Just definitely hoping it doesn't spike up again just before landfall, and that the rains aren't as bad as they're thinking in the more flood prone areas. Louisiana like just got hammered by a cat 4, that general area seriously doesn't need another heavy storm hit this soon.

'Course, if it does spike up hard in the next handful of hours and does some kind of hard lurch eastward well fuck me I guess. Louisiana doesn't need the hit but I'm legit unsure the county I'm in continues to function at all if it takes a heavy storm to the chin again anytime in the next few years. We're still picking shit up from the 2018 cat 5 over here :-\

Are you sure, though? Are we not screaming, or are we just so used to the screams we don't notice anymore?

Many people can hear that odd whining noise when they stop to listen to quietude. Perhaps it is just tinnitus, the broken biology of a haphazard evolutionary mess. Perhaps it's the music of the celestial spheres, the honeyed grinding of the myriad heavens.

Maybe it's the unending chorus of our collective screams. Infinite. Agonizing. The song of the dying of worlds. So pervasive our minds interpret it as silence.

we're already inside of spacegod, though

we've always been inside spacegod

being inside spacegod is a prerequisite of existence as we know it

so goodness is what is by dint of it is-ing

and that's how you go from divine omnipresent omnibenevolence to fundamental materialism, thanks medieval christian theologians

you knew not what you did

So hey, forecast hurricane landfall tomorrow somewhere between West Florida (Pensacola area) and somewhere in East-ish Louisiana. Currently predicted to be cat 2 on landfall, which hopefully isn't 2020 speak for actually-another-cat-4+. Wish people luck, hopefully we won't need it :-\

I... guess it goes here? I'unno, anyway, for folks that might not have noticed, apparently Colorado is currently having this thing where they're having freezing weather (temp swings from the 80s-90s to below freezing), snowstorms... and massive wildfires. So, uh. Best wishes to them and the other states currently on fire. I don't know if any other ones are having a go at being simultaneously on fire and frozen.

I'm hearing word that the sun-blotting ash clouds are at least cooling things off a bit on the ground, over in/around Cali. It's a thing!

Well... rifle up does. Muskets are pretty anemic, usually sub-10 bullets. If you can consistently kill* chain turrets you're probably set on lead slugs for a long, long time. Crazy things drop a 1k slug stack per turret. I've seen comment even that can't keep up with the ammo expenditure of stuff like double chain pistol and you eventually more or less need the slug tinker, but I haven't gotten around to actually trying it and seeing so *shrugs*

* Or somehow get enough on their good side to trade... I had a game start with a turret tinker disguise armor that could do that. Made killing musket and rifle remarkably easy, you'd just buy all their ammo and kill from there, heh. Chain was still pretty risky, though. They have large enough ammo stores in their gun to still pretty easily kill you.

Sure, but it wouldn't get as many clicks/views/dollabills, so the media organizations relentlessly thirsting after those things give very little fucks as to if their behavior is or is not going to get people killed. It's not their job to care if their reporting convinces people to get themselves killed, I guess.

Huh. Can confirm making horns your primary weapon (beta branch thing with some interesting implications) is a remarkably powerful opening gambit. Easily one of the stronger early game melee choices you can make, I think, and from what I hear it never really falls off, at least no more than melee does as a general thing.

You're absolutely wrong regarding how the shitgoblin was presenting it, yes. It was more Church is most blessed and has had great things and authority bestowed it by God, God shows itself only through the church, etc., etc., etc. There was not a single ounce of humility or what you're talking about.

And it's Robert Jeffress, televangelist, american megachurch pastor, Fox news contributor, pathways to victory guy, heard all over the bloody world. Regularly hosted by the Christian Broadcasting Network. Be glad you're not familiar with him.

Store and operate are different things :P

But yeah, an overhang type thing -- supports and roof, no walls, stuff like that -- is more or less ideal. There's ways to ventilate a shed or house so a generator can run inside, but... near as I can recall it's probably cheaper to just run the generator outside and deal with weathering and the occasional replacement, ha. Iirc plenty of generators also just don't really give a damn about rain, just like AC units more or less don't. Depends on the model, I guess...

Eh... for what it's worth, operating it in a closed area without ventilation can, like. Kill you, or something like that. Maybe set up for a gas explosion? Dangerous, in any case. Warranty or not, don't turn the thing on inside yer house :P

Man, bloody Jeffress. Walk by the TV, words come out of his mouth, and I'm not paraphrasing, "The only thing the world can see of God is the Church."

And I'm just, like. Fuck off, you blasphemous little shitgoblin. I'm not even Christian and the sheer fucking heresy of the statement and the crap that man was spewing related to it was just outright offensive.

Swear half the time I walk by the christian broadcast network or whatever it is and that man's on, the same level of shite is being laid out, too. If that's the kind of priesthood modern christianity is supporting, it's no bloody wonder attendance and whatnot is dropping.

Eh... I've seen solid argument psychometry is outright detrimental, heh. It is broken, but more in the sense of largely being a waste of points :P

You kinda' touch on it yourself, there. It does save (sometimes a lot of, to be fair) time and effort/money, but... that's all it does. Literally all it does, save you time. Anything it offers can ultimately be acquired by reverse engineering or buying stuff from merchants/finding crap on the ground, so you're basically spending fairly precious/limited starting mutation points just to do that, instead of doing, well. Anything that actually does something.

Don't get me wrong, I like it a fair amount myself (and also fairly often just cheerfully cheat myself in more mutation points on character creation, heh), but that's mostly 'cause I'm pretty lazy -- I don't think the argument's wrong, per se. You're spending those exceedingly limited non-random mutations on something that doesn't actually get you much but a relatively short leg up on stuff like chem cells or lead slugs.
