Various sorts of telecommunications help a bit, too. It doesn't necessarily fully replace in person visits, especially for older/cognitively declining people, but it's still a hell of a lot better than literally nothing.

Probably a lot better than your kids carrying the plague that kills you, too. Because if there's anything an old person wants, it's to die in suffocating agony while dumping the guilt for functionally murdering them on their family in the process ::)

As for the economics, the light bulb companies are damn straight making far more profits off the new $5 fluorescent low-energy-use bulbs than they ever were off the 50 cent low-efficiency bulbs.
Are they, though? Back when they didn't have those things I'd regularly see my household burn through a pack or two of the cheap bulbs per year on the low end. With the newer ones, it's been actual years, plural, instead of a few months or whatever between replacements. Haven't made the effort to actively track it, but doing most of the domestic shopping these days and having been along for the ride for most of it in yesteryear, I'm pretty sure the households I've been a part of have been spending less on lightbulbs even as they pay more per individual bulb, and that even discounting inflation.

Light bulb companies might be making profit these days, but if the margins have substantially increased I'm pretty doubtful it's because of increased costs for the consumer. Far as I've noticed we're actually paying less on lightbulb replacement, at the moment.

So many of these calls

Agent: Do you have your account number there?

Customer: Yes.

Agent: Ok

...

Agent: Can i have your account number please?

Customer: Oh you want the account number, do you?

I swear some of these people are actually aliens who are unaware of how conversations work.
I mean, I've literally had phone conversations like that where, after confirming an account number existed, the people on the other side didn't want to know it. They were after other confirming information and just needed to know if the account number was there.

It's entirely possible they're not aliens, just people that have had interactions that don't prime them to respond like you seem to think they're supposed to.

Regular rape, mass murder, occasional outright genocide, various forms of wildly abused mind control, etc., etc., etc. Like, take a moment to contemplate the fetishes of a power tripping creep able and willing to write their character with functionally unlimited power. This is your bottom barrel isekai. It's literary sewage.

Smartphone was largely inoffensive, frankly. It's bad in a more objective sense, like most schlock isekai, but relative to isekai in general it's definitely not bottom barrel. MC was largely a not terrible person, even with the cheats they had access to, and that alone sets them a good few rungs off the bottom.

Bottom barrel has pretty damn atrocious MCs doing a constant parade of heinous shit, on top of largely managing to be boring and poorly written. Smartphone was just kinda' mediocre and functionally without conflict, which is just... there.

Idly reading some background lore for Monster Sanctuary for like the first time.

Find out the organization I'm working for has for its largest coal/mining resource supplier a union so staggeringly abusive it literally works almost every single one of its members to death. The biography info for goblin miners note that almost every single one of them die before retiring due to how ethically bankrupt their union is, and that it's specifically because of this pervasive lack of ethics that your organization has tapped them for their primary resource supplier.

Like. What the hell, game? What the actual fuck.

Which one? I don't remember details, at all, because I care significantly less about most conspiracy theories than I do bowel movements, but I'm pretty sure I've seen mention of at least three different ones involving light bulbs over the years.

So Portland seems to be popping off pretty hard.

Apparently people don't like it when unmarked vans are kidnapping people off the street and cops et al launch chemical attacks on protesting mothers, among a slew of other things. Who knew ::)

Rub it! Rub its serendipitous magnificence!"

... and that was when frumple knew for certain it was past time to go to sleep.

But only those who join Team Red are allowed to actually voice opposition to abortion, because Team Blue takes the "Any attempt to tighten restrictions on abortion is an attempt to enslave women, and is therefore forbidden" position.
That's horseshit, though? We have actual standing democrat politicians that are explicitly and loudly anti-abortion. They don't get much meaningful traction on the subject within the party becase full prevention of abortion is a minority position both in the country as a whole and within groups that are basically anything major besides white evangelicals, but the position you're providing is also flat wrong. There's both room for and an existent slice of the democrat party that doesn't hold that position.

They're not exactly welcomed with open arms on the subject (cause most of the voters don't agree, among more practical concerns like the position not fucking helping to reduce abortions anyway) but it doesn't get them kicked out of or barred from the party, as you seem to be suggesting. They're just fairly likely to not be benefited as a general thing just due to the position not bloody being popular to begin with outside of specific religious demographics.

Seemingly fairly enthusiastic about the character design. More than that, I couldn't say :V

Nooses being used for hanging people isn't racist though. Nooses being used to hang specifically black people is.
However, nooses were not and are not exclusively used to hang black people. They're symbols of death, not racism. I'm saying that it could be taken the same way someone spray-painting the grim reaper on their car could be taken. That's not racist at all.
I mean, I might buy that if it were specifically included with/involved a gallows, as well. Hanging off random shit puts you a hell of a lot closer to lynching territory, and if you try to argue that ain't racist in the fucking USA you either ain't from around here or you're actively throwing out bullshit racist smokescreens. Ain't really a third option. Closest that'd come to one is staggering ignorance, and I doubt anyone capable of stringing a coherent sentence together is that blitheringly ignorant.

Don't actually know if own is quite the right word, but. Just walked into a fight with like a dozen centaur archers, and won the fight by letting them shoot me in the face until they ran out of ammo. Winning strategy: Load up your giant scorpions with void orbs and let things hit them until your enemy gets tired.

Poor centaurs, though. They unloaded like, probably 150+ arrows into one of my battle scorpion units and almost. Almost, but not quite. Managed to kill one of its figures. Almost killed one, out of two. From one of my two scorpion units. Nearly managed a 1/4th reduction in giant scorpion what was trying to eat their face.

Didn't actually manage it, though. Zero scorpion figures dead, all centaur faces eaten. Whoop whoop.
