Egan's just 11-ish years back. I'm the 16 one. There's a few other folks still around that registered in that general region of time, too, for that matter.

When you were still wetting the bed, we were making forum posts about dwarves :V

... the vaguely terrifying thing is I've been here nearly as long as you've been alive, if that age number is accurate.

Doesn't quite make me feel old (plenty of other stuff for that, ha), but it sure does highlight that ol' passage of time thing...

Every time I see someone reference mooncakes, I spend a few moments thinking they're talking about moonpies (because they actually sell the latter where I'm at in a notable amount of locations, i.e. basically everywhere they sell food) and being remarkably confused. They're... not wholly dissimilar (they're both pastries with a soft inside!), but they are very different.

Though considering the wikipedia page on both of them has a link at the top to the other, I'm apparently not the only one that gets the two mixed up.

E: Better part of a week, but whatever.

In today's episode of "Simple Obvious Shit I Should Have Tried Years Ago", we have diced gala apple with honey and cinnamon.

Verdict: It's pretty good, but I'm having trouble even telling the honey is there... might not have used enough, or it could just be 'cause the honey's somewhat old and has started to crystalize, dunno. Pretty sure it'd be just as good without, so... yeah. Next time, I think I just try dousing it in cinnamon, maybe figure out how to do some sort of cinnamon glaze or something. Any case, it's a nice noontime snack.

Eh... past 720 or so there's not much difference in video, at least in my experience, and 480's plenty watchable.

Screen resolution, though. You lose a shitton of screen real estate going back to 1280 or whatev'. Once you've adjusted to a larger resolution going back just feels... constrained. You can live with it, but it's pretty unpleasant.

E: Anyway, in actual wtf... that feeling when you open a container of dog treats and you're just, like "That... that smells really good..." and it's just. Avaunt ye, demon of the dog treats, your temptation holds insufficient no sway here.

Seriously, though, the pickup folks had to substitute something I've been getting and the swapped in stuff just. It smells like jerky. Dead on for human-consumption-safe beef jerky.

Extra WTF points, it smells like beef jerky but the thing says it's made from chicken so... frikkin' devil not!people food.

For what it's worth, glitch hop (glitch in general, really) type stuff kicked off back in the late 90s. Newer production definitely pushes it to new levels, if just by dint of better tools, but it's not actually that new, heh.

What's wild is that style of music's closer to a half century old than not, at this point. Young by the standards of jazz or actually old junk or whatev', but it's old enough to drink in most countries :V

Eh... between commerce, agriculture, and chinese diaspora in particular, you might be surprised. At this point there's not many countries out there that actually have foodstuff that hasn't escaped to other borders. There's specialty grocery stores for most major immigrant populations in or near most population centers of much note, assuming the whatever hasn't actually become a normal food for the general population.

Mustard greens (Brassica juncea specifically, checking) are common down here in the southern US, but it's probably a different sort than whatever pothead mustard is, in particular, heh.

Warm drinks when it's warm often makes the externals feel cooler by comparison, so, like, it makes sense? I've done hot chocolate or tea in (florida) summer before and it's either true or a pretty effective placebo.

First person to recommend that to me (and give that explanation on the effect) was an EMT that was around at the time... not a very trustworthy one, but *shrugs*

Though yeah, I haven't done much hot drinks over the last... while. Ever since I cut out caffeine like a decade and a half ago. I used to be a tea fiend, but all the stuff I was drinking was caffeinated and, welp.

Eh... I've tried it a few times, but it always reminds me of, like, unpleasant stuff, mostly involving hot liquids getting in your mouth when you'd really rather they not (bathing or swimming, you reprobates).

Actually kinda' gotten where I'm not even particularly fond of cold water, either. Just give me a nice jug of room temp, plz. That's usually plenty colder than me, so it feels nice anyway.

I mean, McCarthy's not in control of basically anything at this point and hasn't been since he made a joke of the speaker position in order to get elected to it, so I guess that's technically correct :V

Eternally nice thing about cooking: Lot of the time, even when you fail at what you're trying to do, the whatever is still entirely fine.

Lifetime's second attempt at making white sauce didn't work out. Bright side? Instead of potatoes and white sauce I had potatoes and gravy, which is, like. It wasn't something new, but this isn't a downgrade :V

Close! The more direct translation is apparently Bulgasari, so it's like one letter off and that one letter is basically just an upside down b.

Fun note, though, that IP was probably talking about: The director of the movie had actually been kidnapped and forced to make movies for NK. That one was his last before he and his wife managed to escape the country.

Any case, I'm pretty sure I'd trust an arsonist giving a talk on fire safety more than truss on economic growth. There's value in black hat expertise when it comes to preventative measures, y'know? That statement's being unfair to arsonists :P

Unrelated to the latest bit of corporate malfeasance, it's kinda' weird when spam stuff just... misses. Really hard.

I've been getting text messages about a recall notice on "my" ford fusion, but, like. There's two car titles in my name right now, and neither of them are a ford. I've driven a ford before, but it was a model from the 90s and, well. Recall notices are kinda' over for it, nevermind it got totaled when someone was borrowing it somewhere around a decade ago.

Like, I get they make their margin by just shotgunning crap all over the place and reeling any whatever poor blighter bites (either directly by fooling them or selling on the information they can get off the call when it's answered), but... c'mon. Aim a little better. Don't send phishing crap about ford vehicles to someone that doesn't own a ford. Even a little diligence, y'know?

That... also sounds like you maybe shouldn't be allowed to prepare food for other people, and may be a danger to yourself.

Like, incredibly basic food safety generally involves not putting food on the table when it's still at 300 degrees, for a pile of reasons, most of them involving severe burns. Let that stuff cool off a little before you serve. It ain't complicated.
